Rhythm & Muse: Shades of Thought in Cadence and Voices Within
()
About this ebook
Professionally, I was an elementary and high school teacher, a college professor, assistant school superintendent, senior university administrator, publisher and editor of a specialized newspaper, The Minority Enterprise, an entrepreneur, and a dreamer. Graduated from Fairfield College Preparatory School (1947), received a bachelor's degree (1951) and master's degrees (1954) from Fairfield University. Earned a doctorate in education and American literature from the University of California, Los Angeles (1964) and completed a post-doctoral program in urban planning from UCLA (1976).
I always have been curious and wanting to be better. From childhood I was steeped in writing, music, and sports, waiting for my turn at bat or on the court. I wrote poems for personal pleasure and professional articles to validate my role as an educator. Through Rhythm and Muse, I want to share over seventy five years of life's adventure and start a new season on an upbeat.

Dedicated to:
Jacque Caesar, my wife, mother of our four children and my best friend.
Expressions of wonder, sketches of life
wrapped in word whispers, poetic passion,
thought and reflections colored in pastels,
voices within harmonizing blue notes.
Welcome to the message and the music.
Prelude
The turn of the new century marked many new beginnings. One of them was a series of life reflections that I crafted in cadence and called Sepiatones. That unfinished work offered personal sounds painted in shades of brown and tints of blue. It represented a deep-seeded desire to sketch a silent me, wrapped in rhythmic expression. The thrust was a celebration of indelible images spawned by the love of family, friendship, and the sense of people-hood. I now want to finalize those thoughts and feelings, share the joy, and set quiet moments free with echoes of wonderment put to a self-styled beat and universal chords.
Continuing to wrestle with the gnawing presence of uncertainty and our curiosity about tomorrow, I decided to amplify the voices resonating within and pen word orchestrations begging for release. The reconstruction of a seasoned life began to unfold, starting in the middle of timeless tales of before
and the endless quest for a hereafter. It grew larger and louder with questions about the accuracy of the past, the assumptions of custom, the thin line between purpose in life and the possibility of an eternal void. The realization was a better understanding of love, dreams, and relationships woven with words.
Welcome, then, to Rhythm and Muse, a different kind of book. It is a testimony to life wrapped in color and subliminal sounds. The goal is to create a stylistic prose that weaves verse, visual art, and the pulse of music into a multimedia statement. Some of the reflections and images are laced with photo art and water colors, while others dance to the original lyrics of kin. The sum is the song of a person born into an arbitrary, social cage with the door ajar, a human being able to recall pathways to everywhere, thinking holistically and smiling with determination to be free.
