    INTRODUCTION

A single mother by the name of Selena Green decided to take on a part time job as a treatment foster parent. This inspired her to write a book titled I Heard Their Cry, which tells about her experiences as a treatment foster parent. First, let me tell you the difference between a foster parent and a treatment foster parent. A foster parent is someone who takes in an average child who needs a temporary home while their natural parents deal with whatever issues they may have. Treatment foster parents have a much bigger challenge as they take in children who have been abused (physically, mentally and/or sexually), or have parents who are alcoholics or drug addicts, or are living in otherwise dangerous circumstances.

The first child that Selena took into her home was a sixteen year old Hispanic boy named Bobby. Bobby had been in eleven different foster homes. He was a very angry and bitter young man. Ms. Green went through many challenges and struggles to help this young man. But, she soon found out that this wasn’t as easy as she thought it would be.

Shortly before Bobby turned 18, she received another 10 year old boy named R.J. This child had been in six different foster homes and he was hell on wheels! Ms. Green didn’t give up on R.J. though. She said that if she gave up on him he would give up on himself. After having R.J. for a while, Ms. Green decided she wanted to open up her own all male group home in the inner city. She would call her business Solid Foundation. There was only one big problem that got in the way. R.J. had three little sisters that needed placement too. So Ms. Green decided to take in the little girls until St. Charles foster agency could find them permanent placement. Ms. Green went though a very frightening and challenging experience with all of these kids. These children had sexual, emotional, and anger problems. They had endured harsh and cruel treatment from their former parents. The five year old had been raped two times and this was just the beginning! Ms. Green had to put her own dreams on hold to help turn these kids life around. It the midst of all things, Ms. Green forgets about her own life and adopted all four of these children. Ms. Green feels that every one in the world should listen to the story of these four children cries.

Selena feels that everyone in the world needs to listen to the story of these five children’s cries. This is a true story, although some of the names have been changed to protect the innocent. This story will bring tears to your eyes, and hurt to your heart. It will also give you joy as Ms Selena Green give these five children a total transformation.

These children have went through literal hell on earth while living with their parents. Their mother was on crack cocaine and their father was abusive. They have had to steal from grocery stores just to survive another day. They also have had to dodge bullets by dope dealers because their mother didn’t pay her cocaine bill. Please come go with me and listen to the story of I Heard Their Cry. I promise you that your life will never be the same after reading this book.

    CHAPTER 1

My Life Before All Hell Broke Loose!

My name is Selena Green and I am a 44 year old single mother. I have 3 biological sons. My oldest son’s name is Padro and he is 25 years old. Padro is a very handsome young man and very educated. He has a wonderful fiancé and they have two wonderful children. Their 2 year old daughter’s name is April, and their 1 year old son’s name is Xavion. I love all of them very much. Padro has a great personality, but is not really using all the gifts and talents that God has given him.

My second son’s name is Alton and he is 23 years old. He’s about six feet two inches and is very good in basketball, but he doesn’t really care about sports enough to take it to the next level. He is more like a ladies’ man. He can be very lazy at times, and he doesn’t want to earn a living the right way by working a regular job. No matter what I tell him, he still does things his own way. I stay on his case hoping that he will change his ways and I asked the Lord to help direct his path.

My youngest son Landry, is a lot like me. He is 20 years old but acts very old. He didn’t grow up here in Milwaukee like his brothers. He grew up in a small town called Columbia, which is in Mississippi. He is very different from his brothers in many ways. He doesn’t like the fast life and has always been a homebody. He doesn’t go out to clubs. The only thing he is guilty of is playing around with are his antique cars all day. Landry has worked with me for the past 4 years as my assistant with the therapeutic treatment foster children. Because of his assistance, I was able to stay employed with SBC/Ameritech. I am very grateful to him for that.

Now let me tell you a little bit about me. Let me just keep it real with you. I was born in Milwaukee, WI. In 1962 there was just my sister Renee, my brother Phillippi and myself. My mama’s name is Peggy and my dad’s name is Jimmy. Well, mama and dad were former night club owners, and one night 2 of their customers got into a real bad fight. While dad was trying to break them up he had a heart-attack and fell dead. Three months after dad’s death, mama packed us all up and moved us south to Columbia, MS. We all had a pretty decent life. I went to middle school, then high school and finally college. Mama had met another gentleman by the name of Rev. Johnnie Pittman Jr. They ended up getting married, and they have been married for the past 35 years now. I must admit that he is a very good guy; he loves mama a whole lot and he lets the world know that. He treats mom with the utmost respect. I love him very much and I am proud to call him dad.

After I got grown I decided to move back to Milwaukee, Wisconsin as I had a family that still lived here. I think I did an alright job in raising my three sons. I know for a fact that I gave them all the love and support that I could. I was married a few times, once to Padro’s father, which only lasted one year, because he wanted to always jump on me. Then I was married for 8 years to Landry’s father, but he couldn’t shake that drug called crack cocaine, so I ended up in divorce court again. For the most part I raised my three sons on my own. It’s all good though because God was my back bone and the church was my support team. I am not going to lie to you, it was hard work trying to teach three boys how to become good men. I leaped for joy every time one of them got grown. It made me feel like I had accomplished another goal. When my youngest, Landry, turned eighteen, I said God thank you for letting me raise my children."

In May of 2000, I decided to change my job careers and that’s when I got a job as a computer technician with Ameritech, the phone company. The Lord really did bless me with a good job. I started out making twelve dollars an hour, and by 2003 I was earning fifteen dollars an hour. Let me also mention that I was a gospel singer and I was earning extra money on the side by performing at different engagements. I had already recorded two CD’s and was working on my third. It has always been a dream, to one day become a famous gospel singer, because singing and writing songs is a gift that comes straight from God above. It brings joy to my heart when I write a song and watch it come alive through my lyrics and music. So I’ve always prayed for a record deal. I believe that dreams come true if you keep moving forward. I was told to follow my dreams by Oprah Winfrey, herself. I got the chance to meet her back in 1989 and she told me to never give up on my dreams. After the filming of her show, I spoke with her about my first record. She told me Selena I don’t know anything about music but, I will tell you this, don’t ever let your dream die. She said "you must follow
