From the Blue Sun - Lorenzo Ortiz
Prologue
The Mastea Galaxy… a void of space in infinite darkness filled only with the luminous glow of a billion stars shining throughout the endless night. The screech of dead silence was the only sound that could be heard until a small pod raced uncontrollably through the darkness as it headed for a collision landing on the nearby planet, Balea. Panicked and terrified, Hasina, an Abgal from the aquatic planet Zastea, attempting to escape the war between the race of violent shapeshifters called Djinn and one of their own named, Kaeso.
Kaeso was a powerful Sheytan, a high ranking Djinn capable of single handedly fighting off his sadiqi after the assassination of his father and named a traitor by his brother, Vel.
The Abgals landed on the home planet of the Djinn, Jalaka, with the intention to find their fellow kin who was earlier sent to investigate the planet but never returned. When the Djinn spotted the Abgals, they were seen as an unknown enemy and immediately considered a threat and attacked them quickly and ferociously.
The Abgals, unprepared for any longated fight, retreated back to their ship, but the Djinn, using their shapeshifting abilities to transform into monsters of a gargantuan size, would not allow them to escape and pulled the shuttle back down on the planet. Only a few Abgals were able to escape with their lives using the pods from their ship.
With tears racing down her face and her heart growing heavier in her chest as the pain and sorrow filled her, Hasina looked back at the destruction of her ship feeling helpless as the sight became smaller and smaller until the planet had become no more than a shining star and cried herself to sleep.
Hasina woke up to intense vibrations, she looked out to see her pod fast approaching a planet of many colors. She looked at the computer screen in the pod to see it was called Balea. It was a planet one of her kin had returned from and mentioned it was habitable. Hasina knew she could hide and survive here in case the Djinn would come looking for her.
As her pod was being pulled in by the atmosphere, she could see a vast mass of dark blue water and prepared for impact. A great splash erupted as Hasina’s pod had collided with the still waveless waters. She ejected the pod’s door and quickly swam for the surface to find the nearest land and made way to a beach nearby. She reached the beach and slowly observed her surroundings and seen a deep forest with a large mountain in the back in front of her, to her right a long beach, and to her left a small cave in which she took refuge.
After her landing and some time had passed, Hasina had given birth to a baby. Although he was quite palish, he was a healthy Abgal nonetheless. She named him Mendo and raised him on the beach she had landed for it was where she was best suited as an Abgal and was plentiful in fish and fruits, the forest nearby provided wood for Hasina to build a small hut around the cave to shelter her and her newborn, Mendo.
Chapter 1
Five years have passed since Hasina had landed and given birth to Mendo. Hasina is beginning to notice changes in her son. Not only does he not look like a regular Abgal, but he has a yearning for mischief and dangerous adventure.
One morning as the blue sun reflected off the dark blue ocean to create a clear light blue sky clear of clouds. Hasina stared out to the ocean and seen Mendo approaching the deep blue with two stones in his hands.
Where are you going?
, Hasina asked with a stern voice and look of concern on her face knowing Mendo was up to something. I’m going fishing!
, replied Mendo running towards the water and taking a giant leap diving into the water. With two stones? How will that work?
, asked Hasina with a look of confusion on her face as she turned around to pick fruits from the trees.
Mendo swam to the deep and dark ocean bottom with two stones in his hands. He positioned himself upright and planted his feet to the ocean floor and clapped the stones together. He continuously clapped the stones together until a large shark came from the darkness and began to circle around Mendo.
The shark had no eyes and large teeth that looked to be too big for its mouth making the shark unable to ever close it. Mendo recognized it to be a Blindshark, a ferocious underwater carnivore that could see only through vibrations felt underwater and found its prey using its highly sensitive nares enabling the shark to catch a scent from great distances.
Mendo stopped clapping the stones and quickly began to swim away, the blindshark took a giant bite at Mendo, but barely missed. Having his scent and feeling his movement through the vibrations underwater, the shark made chase for Mendo heading for the surface with the shark following closely behind. Seeing the darkness turn to light, Mendo knew he was approaching the surface and readied a plant in his right hand. Reaching the surface, Mendo jumped out of the water with the blindshark right behind him with a wide open mouth and threw the plant into the sharks mouth. The shark immediately began to act eradically and landed itself onto the shore and eventually died from being out of water.
Shocked at the site, Hasina ran towards Mendo who was standing next to the shark, What is that!?
, Hasina asked looking at the size of the sharks teeth. It’s a breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
, answered Mendo with a histerical laugh. What did you do to make it act so unstable?
, Hasina asked. "I threw some Purple Fever Seaweed
