Difficulties Are Opportunities To Deepen Our Roots
DEDICATED TO
Through this book, I want to thank people in my life who have been great contributors to my journey of learning, growing, and finally helping others, and to look at life in the most positive way.
I strongly agree that I am fortunate enough to have people in my life who inspired me, helped me encouraged me, loved me all through, and also people who challenged me, criticized me and gave up on me. I am genuinely grateful to all in my journey of happiness and pain.
The list is long, but I am not leaving this chance to mention my mom, dad, and my kids, always standing by my side to strengthen me. My fire alarm, my uncle (chachu), who always rushed to me in no time; my best friend, Garima, who listened to me patiently through months and months.
My endearing friends, Manvinder, Richa, Supriya, Parvinder, Varun and Pankaj. My loving cousins, Pooja, Kajal, Nakul, Sehdev, Surbhi, Shikha and Renu Bala.
My beautiful, encouraging and supportive mentors, Mrs. Radhika Shrivastava, Mrs. Vinita Johorey and Mrs. Rajbir Kaur, the gorgeous ladies who guided me during the crucial times of life.
SGI – BSG members and leaders, Sensei Daisaku Ikeda, for helping me keep faith in the practice.
My Lord who not only gave me answers when I had questions, but also gave me puzzles to solve; who helped me to grow my faith in Him by sending down positive signs of affirmations and His love for me; who opened doors no one can shut, and saved me by closing the ones He never wanted me to go through; who is just there for me, all the time!
And most importantly, my husband, without whom this wouldn’t have been possible, and I would have remained an unevolved human being, living a meaningless life like many others and sulking to crack out of the despondency.
I thank you all for being into my life!
PREFACE
The book is an idea generated from finding out simple and layman’s ways to deal with everyday struggle in life as well as deeper and effective ways of dealing with crucial circumstances by following some self-generated tricks and tactics. The book is an outcome of my own ideas of handling situations, and making small processes for self-reflection and self-improvement. I have a habit of writing important and useful things in my diary and reflect upon them again and again, and during the period of struggle and distress my diary gets filled up with many reflective points, ideas, processes, and relevant quotations from various sources of reading like, books, blogs, studies etc. This book is actually a well-organized form of those random reflective ideas from my diary that helped me build that confidence and to take onus for the things I do in life and the decisions I make. The book is a DIY (Do It Yourself) task for our lives to take the best possible shape and to function efficaciously. The experiences and stories shared in the book are the pieces of evidence of this never-ending and remarkable journey of life.
The exercises and ideas stated in the book are simple, and researched on a group of people. All ideas do not work for everyone, but some work for some people and others on the other set of people. In this book, we will not only explore the things we must do to improve life, but also the things that should not be done to make life better.
As the title of the books says, we all have abilities to create our own magic potion, the book focuses on how to use it whenever required to let the magic work in our lives. The recipe is not that simple, and a few failures are a part of the process, but ultimately, our usually underestimated abilities can create the magic we all look for throughout our lives.
The power lies within us!
TO BEGIN
"If you knew yourself for even one moment, if you could just glimpse your most beautiful face, maybe you wouldn’t slumber so deeply in that house of clay. Why not move into your house of joy and shine into every crevice! For you are the secret Treasure-bearer, and always have been. Didn’t you know?"
– Rumi, A Persian Poet
We all look for magic in our lives when we are distressed or face turbulences, but the irony is that we look outside for the magic potion that can change our lives, our situations, our perceptions, and our behavior, rather than knowing the fact that God has given us all the necessary powers to create that magic potion on our own, and enjoy its effects. And, the key ingredients are very handy and always available for us – Efforts, Positive outlook, Faith and Prayer.
I understand that these are very common words, widely used clichés, but they are really powerful elements of the magic potion we all require.
To begin with the most high-powered element, Prayer, I am going to give this process of creating the magic potion, a super start!
‘I hold on to You Lord’
I was never so strong till You held my hand to say, "My child, I’m there for you & you will soar high on wings like eagles."
I was never so patient till You whispered in my ear, "I am trying to bring My plan into your life, have faith, my baby."
I was never so compassionate till You made me see the miseries of others around me, far bigger than my problems.
I was never so focused till You showed me the path You have chosen for me and promised that You will walk with me forever.
I was never so comfortable till You lifted me up in Your arms when I got tired of the trials and adversities.
I was never so positive till You showed me the opportunities hidden behind the challenges I faced.
I was never so confident till You said, "I can open doors no man can shut."
I was never so fearless till You made all Your promises come true in my life.
I was never at peace till You drew me close to Your breast and kissed my forehead to help me rely only on You, and nothing or no one else.
I was never so cheerful till You helped me find my happiness not in people or things, but in nature, You and my own inner world.
I never felt so beautiful till You expressed that being Your child, I am unique and beautiful at mind, body and heart.
I never felt that free-will of giving; reaching out to people; showering unconditional love on others & not to judge people, till You revealed its effusive need in my own life.
And now, I hold on to You for every single thing in my life.
