Adventures with Jesus - Hollie Higgins

    Obedience Begins with Adventure

Have you ever thought when is this trial going to be over or haven’t I learned my lesson yet? Did God do a shift in your life or did he do many shifts in your life? In Hebrew the word Adventure means to test or attempt and in Greek the word is didomi means to give. What’s interesting is the word adventure, which is didimi, was used over 360 times in the New Testament. Sometimes when translating this word it meant these other definitions: bestow, bring forth, commit, offer, strike with the palm of the hand, suffer, take, utter, and yield.

Sometimes we attempt the adventure and fail and we feel like a failure. But God uses failure to teach us, grow us, and draw us closer to him. Some of my favorite scriptures with the word Adventure in them are the following:

2 Corinthians 11:26 (NIV) I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers.

1 Timothy 6:12 (NIV) Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

Being able to keep your faith after an adventure is a hard thing to do, sometimes others do not understand how you do it but you know that God does it for you. This is also yielding to your adventure and God is pleased when we yield. This is true obedience. I have a close friend who lost her first born son to cancer and her favorite verse is 1 Timothy 6:12. When I realized what the word adventure meant in this verse, I discovered she yielded to her adventure and kept her faith even through a great tragedy had happened in her life.

Luke 5:4 (KJV) Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

Jesus finished speaking and called out to Simon for him to put out the net and go get his adventure.

Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV) Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

God is saying if you call on me I will show you the Adventures. God will share his adventures with you in your quiet time.

Lastly in discussing our adventures in life the word bestow means gift. Your Adventure is your gift. Our God is a giving God and wants to give his children many gifts.

Prayer: Lord let me find all your adventures for my life and help me to be joyful through all of them, let it begin now.

    Adventure #1 - the remnant

Zachariah 13:1 (NIV) On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and
