About this ebook

Mr. Henry and Me is the story of a dachshund told from the dog's point of view. She tells, among other things, about how she picked Mr. Henry, the lives of some of the other animals in the neighborhood, her encounter with an unwelcome critter who wandered into her backyard, and how she helped some students at school.

    Mr. Henry and Me

Good morning! You don’t know me yet, so let me introduce myself. Everyone knows me as Lady. My AKC papers that stands for American Kennel Club or birth certificate as you humans call it say my name is Fraulein Fredericka. Why anyone would name me that is beyond me! I hate the name Fraulein Fredericka and much prefer the name Lady. So, please call me Lady.

I thought I’d tell you a few things that have happened to me in my short life time. Some of these events have been funny, some are sad, and some are just kind of cute. By the way, it’s going to be up to you to decide which tales are true and which ones have been made up.

So, where do I begin? I won’t tell you how long ago I was born for two reasons. First, I really don’t remember exactly when I was born and the second reason is because a Lady never tells her age. Besides, a polite person such as you would never ask such a personal question.

I think I’d better tell you a little bit about Mr. Henry. He’s the person I live with. Mr. Henry is the principal of a local elementary school, and he takes me to school with him quite a lot. I like that, because the students there are very nice, and they pay me a lot of attention. I love all the attention I can get. Once in a while, I even get to go into a classroom so that the kids can read a story to me. At other times, I just sit in Mr. Henry’s office and doze while he does some paper work. Another nice thing about going to school is that the secretaries are all very nice to me and are always bringing me treats. The only problem with that is that I must watch my girlish figure.

I really love Mr. Henry, but sometimes he just does not understand what I’m thinking, or planning, or scheming. Sometimes that may be a good thing. Since he doesn’t understand me all the time, I have to work extra hard to train him, and believe me, that can be a difficult task. It’s been hard training Mr. Henry, but I keep on trying.

I haven’t told you much about myself, so I suppose I should do that now. I am a dachshund. To be precise, I am a smooth-haired dachshund. Some people refer to our kind as wiener dogs but that is incorrect. We have nothing to do with wieners, except eat them once in a while. (Beside the point). I have beautiful black hair, deep brown eyes, magnificent long ears, and a tail almost as long as the rest of my body. My nose is perfectly pointed; I
