A Pocketful of Poses - Rawle Wilton Young

    THE DREAM

it was a perfect, beautiful spring

day, and new vibrant life was

    everywhere

soft green grass spread as far as

the eye can see, decorated with

the glorious reds, purples, yellows, and

    whites of wildflowers

    overhead, the clear blue sky

seemed to smile as an occasional

puffy, lazy white cloud drifted by

and the sweet songs of the birds

    serenaded me as I went

for a walk on the hillside

nearby, I noticed a tiny group

of people who stood in a small

circle, looking down into the ground

    their faces stony, sad, poignant

as I approached them, they cleared

a path, and looking at me, they

pointed down. I came to the edge

of a freshly dug grave and looked

    down. My heart stopped

lying there, fully dressed, face up

eyes wide-open, and frozen in horror

    I saw myself!

    MATTERS OF MIND

Whatever it is you look for

That’s just what you will find

You’ll always get what you expect

It’s all a state of mind

If all your thoughts are focused

    On superstitious fare

    Then streams of hocus-pocus

    Appear from everywhere

    Concentrate on subsistence

    On lack and poverty

    You’ll attract that existence

    This I can guarantee

    If you imagine danger

    Lurking ’round every bend

    The universe will rearrange

To prove the thoughts you send

Think of good health and success

    The forces you’ll attract

    Transmit your message everywhere

    And bring those results back

    GOT THINGS ON MY MIND

I know that it may seem

    Like I’m ignoring you sometimes

    My love, it’s not intentional

I’ve got things on my mind

    If I seemed quiet lately

I didn’t mean to be unkind

    If I appear preoccupied

I’ve got things on my mind

    You think I’ve been unfaithful

I know your love is blind

But there is no one else for me

I’ve got things on my mind

You say we’ve lost our magic

I’ve hung you on a line

    It’s nothing quite that tragic

I’ve got things on my mind

    My love
