ROMANCE POEMS
Once in a while, God’s artwork will carve such a beautiful mental design that the eyes will see a reflection of love looking back at you in an empty room.
THAT THING YOU DO
I wasn’t expecting to go out that night, but my girlfriends kept insisting, so I finally said all right. I might as well go hold up a seat and turn down a line of quick talkers offering me liquor and glasses of wine. I had planned to stay home and wait for your call, but this time, something felt different—I had no interest at all.
What I found that night felt magnetic to my spine, as if receiving what’s been hidden from all that’s divine, as if someone has ignited an explosive device unseen, having no knowledge vicious slow wind created a fen. Saturday night turned into Sunday morning at the beach on the shore. Thursday morning turned into Friday evening as if we could handle much more, leaving me staring into space, daydreaming when you’re not around. As if having been put under a spell, I now call him spellbound. Locks fall across my neck, tickling my spine. Pearly whites devoured my soul while stating what’s mine. What we share is bigger than what we anticipated it to be; these are my thoughts and concentration and ultimately me. I’m changed indefinitely, having been blessed up by who. My innermost sensational truth rearranged all because of that thing you do.

Maybe love, regret, or fear. But internalize yet somehow fraternize without much effort. They can recognize a certain look or discerning glance; they’ve been known to criticize or, with a far off stare in a conversation, depersonalize. Humanity’s captivating eyes were meant by God to decolorize and appreciate, not judge or categorize, the differences in every man. Captivating eyes seep right to the soul—how we greet and how we apotheosize. If ever you would meet someone with these traits, remember those captivating eyes.
LUNCH BREAK
Houndstooth buttoned up tight, with a cherry-red silk scarf tucked in kinda light, just enough to shield the chill around my neck. Ice gathers on my boots as I precede uphill through the sleet collecting on the sidewalk. Cars with chained tires slowly cover the road as exhaust meets the cold air below, making my prescription
