The Nations Confusion - Kristina Castle
THE GOLDEN VALLEY
Upon looking at the Nations from a birds-eye view there is a rushing stream that flows all around the Water Nation. This stream divides the Water Nation from the rest of the Nations. This clear cut stream leaves no shore of the Water Nation untouched by water. A young woman named Yameighka is sitting on a medium lightened cedar wood dock. This dock grows off of the shoreline of the Water Nation. She notices how the water is cool and refreshing. The ripples grow out and into nothing as she slowly moves her feet about. Yameighka’s hair is long and black and flows behind her in the wind like a calm stream. She has bony pale skin and a slender but strong body. The wind picks up, coming from the direction of the Wind Nation, as Yameighka quiets her feet. She looks at the skyline and sees the amber melting into shades of gray. Blue and purple shades of swirls shine through as the sun gets ready to dip below for the night. She stands up, onto the dock, and casually walks across. This dock is the only thing that connects the Wind Nation to the other Nations.
She comes to an enormous tree that blocks anyone from entering this Nation. The Wind Nation is almost a secret from the other Nations because it is extremely hard to get in and out of. This tree is blocking people from entering or setting foot off the dock and into the lands of the Wind Nation. On the trunk of the tree there is an engraving of the wind blowing in the bark. Yameighka touches the engraving and notices that her hand is warming up. Slowly she retracts her hand and sees that the engraving is now on her hand. The sound of a cracking tree is heard as the symbol reddens and grows deeper and deeper into her palm as a white light appears. The white light shines through her palm on the border of the engraving, almost blinding her before it retracts into nothing and her hand starts cooling as the redness slowly goes away. She looks up from her palm and sees that the enormous tree has split in two. Yameighka steps through to a bright light and sees a shimmering world.
Fresh green lush areas go on for miles and miles. Huge growing trees with all sorts of different color leaves blowing about in the wind. The hills balance out the flat lands with flowers of all colors are blowing about with the wind being medium strength. The wind is strong and gentle at times, but it still continually blows all the time within the Wind Nation. There are a few small waterfalls that flow into all areas of the Wind Nation, to keep everything growing beautiful. The clear blue sky is inviting, as she steps through the tree and into the Wind Nation. Yameighka sees the apple and orange trees and starts right in. She rushes over to those trees and picks off the fruit like she hasn’t eaten in a few days.
Walking further into this Nation she sees the Golden Valley, which is a place that shines. It is stationed midway between the fruit and berry trees. It is a little dip that has fruit and berry trees that shines to perfection at all times. It is called the Golden Valley because there’s gold on the bottom of the tiny stream that flows along the valley with incredible depth. Yameighka starts to climb the trees in the Golden Valley and picks off the fruit and the berries. She took the food and was about to eat, when the ground shakes and rumbles like an aftershock from an earthquake. The clouds start forming faces into the sky with lightning and thunder.
Yameighka looks around worried. She gazes all around until she sees that the clouds are forming a face in the sky. Slowly she gets up and watch, after the ground stops rumbling. What is this place,
whispering to herself.
The Golden Valley is off limits. You are invited to eat anything, except from this valley.
The voice, coming from the clouds, is sharp with strictness, yet gentle with love. This dark tone is enough to scare anyone but sweet enough like a father telling their child that what they did was wrong.
And you are?
Yameighka brings the fruit up to her mouth. The grounds rumbles just like before, except about ten times worse now. The fruit and berries end up falling from her grasp and rolling into the little stream, which takes the fruit away to never be seen again.
You eat from the Golden Valley and this Nation will be no more!
The clouds start floating away and the ground stops rumbling. The sky becomes clear again with bright colors. Yameighka sits down underneath one of the fruit trees within the Golden Valley.
Yameighka’s stomach starts to rumble as she looks at the clear blue stream beneath her feet. Thinking about what happened before, she noticed that, in the water, there’s fruit floating. There are a few apples floating about. Hearing her stomach rumble one more time, she decides to go reaching for it. Grabbing one of the apples, she takes a look at it. From what she sees there is no resemblance to the fruit that fell before the face disappeared from the sky. She takes a bite and the juice start flowing. On the back of the apple there is a little shimmer that the stream didn’t wash off. The apple starts washing its-self away. The red melting through her pale white fingers, draining down the back of her hand and dripping into the stream, like red dye.
Shocked, Yameighka looks at her hand like it’s the plague. She looks up at the surrounding beauty and notices that it’s also melting. The green leaves and brown bark are melting and mixing together into the bright green grass, which is melting into the streams and rivers. The world around her is all melting into nothing, except the Golden Valley. The world melts down to nothing and she is left sitting in the Golden Valley, which transformed into a fluffy cloud.
Yameighka stands up and looks around with tears welding up in her eyes. She blinks and lets them fall as the floating cloud gets to the end of its journey. There is a wall like cloud that looks like a tree trunk. Yameighka notices the symbol that’s engraved on the cloud, which is slowly turning into the bark of a tree. She slowly brings up her hand and feels the symbol. Before touching it, she brings her hands back and feels her chest. She reaches into her shirt and pulls out an engraved necklace. The engraved symbol on her necklace is the same symbol that is in the cloud. This is the engraving of the wind. Holding her necklace in one hand and touching the symbol in the cloud with the other hand, Yameighka notices this white light shining through. The bark of the tree that is coming out of the cloud. Her hand warms up and slowly cools off as she hears the sound of a door creaking. She steps through this world and hears a door shutting. She looks back and sees that there are woodlands behind her and in front of her there are more trees, with a clearing off into the distance. Yameighka starts heading that way as she wipes her tears away. The light from the tree became so bright that it blinded everyone and everything entirely.
THE TRUTH
Coming apart from a dream, Sigourney gasps awake. Breathing heavily with eyes watering, almost like a waterfall. His heart beating rapidly as he looks around while rubbing his eyes from the images that were in his head before. Shimeko!
He shouts, while looking all around him. Shimeko, Where are…
He finally sees her as his heart rate slowly drops back down to normal.
Sigourney it’s okay.
She comes near him and places her hands on the sides of his face. You’re alright, we both are.
She leans in and he wraps his arms around her completely.
It is about time you wake up. How are you feeling?
Konahamru comes into his training room and shuts the door behind him.
Who are you?
Sigourney inquires.
They broke their hug as Shimeko sits next to him. This is Konahamru.
Shimeko answered.
I am a friends of Yamanaka. Here’s some food and water. Try to heal before you two get up and leave.
How do you know that we are going to do that? What if we are just going to live here for a while?
I know your mother very well and if you’re anything like her. You won’t hesitate to get up and continue on your adventure or quest or whatever it is that you are in the middle of.
Explains Konahamru as he closes his doors so they can have time to themselves. He heads into the kitchen and makes breakfast for his children. Well good morning you two.
Morning daddy.
Catalina says as she pulls a chair out so she could sit down.
Morning.
Konsaiya says as he rubs his eyes at the table.
Konahamru puts a plate in front of each of them and they all eat breakfast. In the middle of breakfast Konsaiya pipes up and asks Konahamru a question. Hey dad.
Yeah.
Konahamru answers as he used a napkin to wipe his face.
Who are those two?
He looks back at the training room and turns back around to face Konahamru.
That’s Shimeko and Sigourney. They are children that got mixed up into something dangerous.
Answers Konahamru. But don’t worry you are safe here and so are they.
Konahamru gets up from the table and brings his dishes to the sink.
Daddy can I go out and play?
Catalina brings her dishes to Konahamru with a smile on her face.
Change out of your pj’s first.
He leans down and kisses the top of her head.
Yay!
Catalina smiles as she rushes to her room and quickly changes. She rushes out the front door and smiles as she heads out into the world of Konahamru’s yard.
Konsaiya. Are you okay?
Konahamru inquires. You look like you never got sleep last night.
I was up all night thinking.
About what?
If Yamanaka is still alive, then why doesn’t she come and see you? You are her friend aren’t you?
Konsaiya is a bit confused.
I am, but it is a bit more complicated than that, I am afraid.
What’s complicated?
A lot of things has happened in the past few years since she has been gone and since you were born.
Can you tell me?
Konsaiya really wants to know the truth about things. He wants to know more about Tahiema, especially after he came to his room to see him.
Like I said before I do believe that she is still alive.
Konahamru could see it in Konsaiya’s face that his answer wasn’t what he was looking for. What is this really about Konsaiya?
What about Tahiema?
Inquires Konsaiya. Can you tell me more about him? I know that he is living within the Nation’s boundaries. Can we meet him?
Konsaiya there are things about him you don’t understand.
Like what?
Konsaiya wasn’t sure why Konahamru
