I returned home after dropping Gitika off at the bus stop, feeling tired & low. Rang the doorbell, mom opened the door, smiled, and affectionately asked, How did the submissions go, son?
I felt so guilty of having lied to her this morning. And it was not the first time that I had done it. I said, Mom, they’ve asked me to come next week.
She was okay with it. You look very tired, go get some sleep.
She said and got back into the kitchen running the errands.
I went to my room, threw the bag aside, and hit the bed. I was tired, plus emotionally drained out. To be in long distance relationship is not easy. My mind started jogging, jumping from one thought to the other, yearning to relive every minute of the past 24 hours.
I am in a long distance relationship with a girl named Gitika (imaginary name); an adorable and sweet girl from Chandrapur. Her father is a shop keeper, whom she likes to introduce as a businessman and her mother, a housewife. We met at one of our common relative’s marriage in my city, Nagpur. Introduction became an acquaintance, and over a few more conversations we bonded and before we knew, we were in love. This was the short and quick beginning of our long distance love story.
Gitika was pursuing her graduation in science. After her graduation she wished to pursue MBA. She was working hard for it to get through. She was always in my prayers and I wanted all her hard work to pay. I secretly prayed that she should get admission in the best college, but in Nagpur, so that we could be together. Finally when she appeared for exams, she did well and came out with flying colors. Half my prayers were answered and for the other half, God had different plans. She got admission at Pune University. Pune University is one of the best universities in India.
She was jubilant; I pretended to be happy, but deep inside, I was upset because, this new development would increase the distance further. I tried to convince her to opt for admission in a college in Nagpur, but, she was adamant and wanted to go to Pune. Gitika had always been a very practical, ambitious and career conscious person, an individual in her own right; and it was clear that she didn’t value or like my suggestion or interference; however you may like to see it. I was emotional and in love so did not want to leave any stone unturned to keep her as close to me as possible. I often wonder if being emotional is a virtue or a weakness….
While I was going through this emotional upheaval and couldn’t bear separation any more, she kept convincing me and assuring me that she will come and meet me every 3 months.
Before leaving for Pune, we both wanted to meet but, we couldn’t find a place to meet. One day I was sitting in my room thinking about ways to meet her. My cell phone rang, I picked the call.
Hi
It was Gitika’s voice at the other end.
I replied, Hi, sweetie, was just thinking of you, as always! How are you?
Gitika said, I am not happy.
To which I asked her why was she upset?
She replied, "I want to meet you and I am not finding a proper place where we can meet.
Can we stay at any of your friend’s flat or room?"
- She suggested
Stay means? You want to stay whole night with me?
- I asked
Yes. I want to spend every minute with you for this one time.
- She said
Are you planning for something naughty hmmm?
- I teased her.
Yes, very naughty and hot baby, want to bite your lips
- She replied naughtily
Wow! This is going to be wonderful.
- I said
Don’t get excited, you will get nothing, ok.
- She said
We will see sweetheart.
- I replied.
Ok, for now just go and plan for our date, please.
- she said
Ok honey, bye. Love you.
- I said
In those days one of my friends, Neha met me in shopping mall with her friends. We greeted each other. Neha knew that I am in a relationship with Gitika. She enquired me about Gitika. I informed Neha that Gitika is leaving for Pune in a few days to pursue a course in MBA. I shared with her my wish to spend time with Gitika before she leaves for Pune. Neha too had a boyfriend then and said she would plan something for everyone so that they could all spend memorable moments together.
I shared this great news with Gitika and she couldn’t believe that our wish had come true. She was
