image_1.jpgTo a Rose, flowering unseen.
For all that I might ask to know your mind,
Only the glow of smile, and light of eyes,
Reaches to dreams: Heart is to reason blind.
Reading your words, I find that I desire
Enough of you to know more than I do:
Before I fall, must I find you inspire?
Echoes of Past remain: Are dreams but cries,
Cold imaginings too old to be thought new?
Can I ask that you kindle in mind fire
After heart has been burned? Would hope be true?
Let all my hopes and dreams of desires wait:
You must decide how much of heart to show.
Not all my words can alter future Fate:
No chance for verse, unless some muse I know.
I look at picture of your eyes, and lose
A part of heart: I see your smile, and dream
That I might cause another. Would you choose
To let my lines amuse? My heart might deem
You as a source of light. Should I not hope
To offer reflection of what I see?
You are more than I know, from words: The scope
Of your dreams remains out of sight of me.
What might bring a small smile to you, or cause
A gleam in eye? How might I know your mind,
To offer joy? I ask myself, and pause:
I know not what to ask, to your heart find.
Why do you laugh, when I would have verse show
What vision I might find, within your glow?
Are you a rose, turning your face to sun,
With soft, sweet beauty, and a layered heart?
Have I some chance to know dreams with verse won,
That I might see the light that brings me art?
I wish that you dream of your heart’s desire,
But hope you find some room within your thought
For one who finds your eyes to verse inspire:
I fear your image has my vision caught.
How might I show concern? I have not wit
Enough, to give what miles forbid. I send
What words I might, and hope that you see fit
To give reply. Shall I let desires end?
Would that I might look into eyes, and see
If in your dreams might be a thought of me.
I ask for dream, and vision, yet I seek
To understand your soul: Would you now share
An image of your heart? Do my words speak
A language that you feel? Dare my heart care?
I ask for words, to knowledge gain, yet know
Emotion feeds my dreams, and heart. I ask
Beyond all reason: I would have you show
The part of self one from the world must mask.
I ask for hope, and caring, yet can give
Only my words, and heart. Are questions just,
Or do I pass all bounds? To let dreams live
Requires I offer soul, and hope for trust.
I ask, yet cannot know: Would you desire
More than these words, or that I dreams retire?
Though I may dream of you, I cannot say
You send me visions. Image fills my thought,
But I do not know how you feel: I stay
A step farther away than I have sought.
Though I may seek for muse, I cannot know,
Without reply, what I in you have found:
Is it too much to ask, to have you show
Some part of what you feel, to feelings bound?
Though I may beg for words, I cannot ask
What I might wish. How can I see a smile
Over this distance? Would written words mask
The feelings sought, or let heart rest a while?
All I might do will not gain me my goal:
How can I reach your heart, or touch your soul?
I have not heard your voice, to have heart bound
By dulcet tones. What might I do, to earn
A gift of song, or laughter? How might sound
Help me to know your heart? What might I learn?
I have not run my fingers through your hair,
To touch the curve of neck, or know if skin
Is soft as dream. How might I evening share,
At such a distance? What dreams would I win?
I have not kissed your lips, to taste desire,
But hope to find some passion in your lines.
Yet, words do not offer the same sweet fire
As silent look, or touch that heart entwines.
How can I find ways to your soul entreat,
When miles can half of my senses defeat?
I’m glad my words can bring to you some joy
And find a place within your heart. Yet I
Wish to lift you, not to quiet destroy,
But to know heart’s desire, and look in eye.
I do not ask who is to blame, but seek
To see what I might of your soul. I care
Enough to want to hold, but cannot speak
Of what we might in future meeting share.
I cannot alter others’ actions, yet
I wish faint friends did
