The Spirit of the Lord Is Upon Me

About this ebook
Jesus spoke from the book of Isaiah in his Fathers temple that the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him. He read out loud to the Jewish people from the book of Isaiah 61:1. But when he got to the next verse, he only read a part of it. He stopped at to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord. He closed the book and handed it back to the attendant. Then he looked straight into the peoples faces and told them that they were looking at the scripture being fulfilled right before their very eyes. If he had read the rest of the verse, he would have read and the day of vengeance of our God. However, he did try to soften the blow by merely reading a part of that verse. But that didnt work either. They sat there gazing at him and saying, Is this not Josephs boy?

When you read about some of the things I am about to write, you too will realize that God has always been with me. Even in what seemed to be my darkest hour, He was there. My maternal Grandfather and step-Grandmother raised me.

I dedicate these poems to the Holy Spirit, for his teaching me that he is very real in my life. To Jesus Christ, for paying the price for my salvation.
To my beloved husband, James, for all the encouragement, time, and help he gave to help me finish this.
But to God be the glory!
Chapter One
The Spirit Of The Lord Is Upon Me
Yes! The Spirit of the Lord is upon me! He has anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor, the afflicted, and to help mend the broken hearts that are everywhere. Yes! The Spirit of the Lord is upon me to comfort all those who mourn, to give them a mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting, and to tell the captives they are free! There is no condemnation when the Son has set them free! Yes! Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.
Jesus spoke from the book of Isaiah in his Father’s temple that the "Spirit of the Lord was upon him. He read out loud to the Jewish people from the book of Isaiah 61:1. But when he got to the next verse, he only read a part of it. He stopped at to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.
He closed the book and handed it back to the attendant. Then he looked straight into the people’s faces and told them that they were looking at the scripture being fulfilled right before their very eyes. If he had read the rest of the verse, he would have read and the day of vengeance of our God.
However, he did try to soften the blow by merely reading a part of that verse. But that didn’t work either. They sat there gazing at him, saying, Is this not Joseph’s boy?
Then to add insult to injury, he proceeded to tell them that a prophet is never accepted in his own hometown. Then he reminded them of Elijah—how God sent Elijah to another city and not Israel in his day. The people were enraged! They ran him out of his Father’s temple. They tried to throw him off a cliff, but Jesus, being the Son of God, walked right through their midst. I think we have all read the story, and the rest only gets worse from there.
Why did they treat him so harshly? I’ll tell you why. Isaiah 6:9–10 says, Go to this people and say, ‘You will keep on hearing but not understand; And you will keep on seeing but will not perceive; for the heart of this people has become dull, and with their ears they scarcely hear, and they have closed their eyes; Lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and return, and I should heal them.’
By now you’re probably saying to yourself, Self, I thought that this was going to be a poetry book.
Well, it is. I just want you to know a little bit about the author. What does she feel? What compels her to write in the style that she writes? What touches her? What moves her to write this style of poetry?
I don’t know how many times someone has asked me these questions, so I’m going to save you the problem and tell you before you can think these thoughts.
It is Jesus Christ my Lord who moves me. You see, he did not leave me alone in this world. He left his Holy Spirit to guide me. He will never leave me nor forsake me.
He lives inside of me, so I don’t have to look too far to find him. Since I’ve been saved, which was at the age of ten, I didn’t know that God had given me more than salvation. I mean, God’s salvation is enough. I’m not complaining; I’m just trying to tell you how blind I was. In 1970 I was filled with the Holy Spirit, and do you know what? I didn’t even know at the time what had happened to me. The Holy Spirit had to keep his eyes on me at all times! I grieved him, I know, and I hurt today over it. I learned more about him in later years to come. But today I won’t be without him! He teaches me in God’s Word—the Bible—new revelations every day. He talks to me. Honest, folks, he really does. He never talks about himself. He talks to me about Jesus and what I can do for him. He is a great friend and comforter.
Some people won’t leave home without their American Express cards. Well, I refuse to leave home without him. There’s more power in him than plastic power could ever have. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity.
In Jeremiah 1:5, the Lord says, "Before I
