    Welcome to This Book

This is intended to be a multipurpose book. It is useful as a source for bulletin material. Group Bible studies and Bible study classes may find it useful as a source for a quarter-long study. As a homeschooling dad, I hope that it will prove to be a source for essay topics during the students’ study. For individual Bible study, it can be a starting point for meditation on various biblical topics or a month-long series of devotional readings. Finally, the short essays may inspire sermon topics.

Each section begins with a verse, which the reader is encouraged to read. Next comes a thought. The thought is intended to summarize a major thought or lesson. Next follows the main text and questions. The main text of each section can be used in a number of ways. It can be a source for bulletin articles. It can be used as a commentary on the verse that begins each section. If read along with the verse, it can serve as an introduction to a small group Bible study. Finally, there are the questions, which are meant to stir discussion in small groups and may be used by homeschoolers as a source for essay topics.

    Sample bulletin formats are presented.

However you use this book, I hope that it will cause you to meditate and deepen your insight into the Word of God.

    Yours in Christ,

    Charles Mosley

    A Clean Conscience

    Hebrews 10:22

A clean conscience is central to a good relationship with God. The Greek-word-translated conscience in Hebrews 10:22 points to the concept of moral discernment. That is the ability to determine what is approved by God. If the orientation of our minds and hearts is incorrect, then our discernment will be defective. We will be deluded servants of sin. A new orientation is needed to be true servants of God. Hebrews 9:14 speaks of the blood of Christ purging our conscience. This is superior to the blood of bulls and goats, which, according to Hebrews 9:12, only devotes (sanctifies) the flesh to God. Christ calls us to himself by his own perfection and goodness (2 Pet. 1:3). Our faith in Christ changes the direction and affection of our conscience.
