About the Author

Dedication

Praise and honor belongs to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, for His grace and mercy. I am so thankful for the guidance, strength, love and protection He has given. Most of all, I’m thankful for the undeserved favor He has bestowed upon me.

To my mother, I am grateful for your wonderful example of love and compassion. You are the greatest woman I know. Thank you for being there for me.

To my mentors in the Kingdom, I am forever indebted to the following women for their example and guidance which molded me into who I am today: Bishop Georgia Riley, the late Co-Pastor Barbara Eubanks, Pastor Gloria Samuels, Lady Sharon Yelverton, Lady LaShaun Thompson and Co-Pastor Joyce McCarter.

To my covering, Bishop Kenneth M. Yelverton, thank you for your guidance and direction. You are truly a great father and mentor. The Kingdom needs more Pastors like you.

To my Emmanuel Baptist Church family, thank you for your support and dedication. You are an important part of my ministry and my life. God has so much in store for our church. I love you!

To my husband, Pastor P. Michael McNair, thank you for your love, sincere friendship and encouragement. I am grateful to you for believing in me from the very beginning. You are the strongest man I know and I’m blessed to be your wife. The best is yet to come!

Introduction

What makes a powerful woman? How can a woman remain effective in her life under stress, strain and pressure of her everyday affairs? I wish I had a 3 step process or a magical formula you could implement. The truth is, there is not one. There is only one thing that can guide and improve the life of any woman… prayer. Prayer is the driving force that can change your life. In Matthew 17, Jesus teaches His disciples an important lesson on the power of prayer. In this story, a man brought his son, who was being tormented by an evil spirit, to the disciples. Although they tried, they could not cast the devil out of the boy. The Bible says in Matthew 17:18

And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

After witnessing Jesus effectively cast out the devil, they asked Him in verse 19, Why could I not cast him out? Jesus plainly and accurately shared with them in verse 21, This kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

That word prayer in the Greek language is proseuchē, meaning:

1)   An oratory addressed to God.

2)   A reverent petition made to God.

3)   A place set apart for the offering of prayer.

This definition ensures us that prayer is simply a conversation with our Father. A conversation that can become so intimate and enduring that it creates an atmosphere, apart from the world, where all there is, is you and God. How powerful is that!

In 2011, God impressed upon my heart to establish an environment where women from everywhere can come together and be encouraged through prayer and the Word of God. I call it the Women on Wednesday (W.O.W.) Prayer Call. For 15 short minutes I shared a word of encouragement and prayed a covering of blessings over every caller. Through the prayer call, many women have testified that they have been blessed, encouraged, strengthened, and challenged to make substantial life improvements. After hearing what God has done in their life, I was impressed by the Holy Spirit to take each call and share it with you in the form of a 21-day prayer journal. There are endless books and articles that say It takes 21 days to make a habit. One can apply this idea to prayer as well. In less than a month, you can create a habit of prayer that will not only bring discipline to your Christian walk, but it will change your life!

Each chapter has 3 main sections to enhance your Christian walk:

• THE WORD: The Word of God is our foundation; it is our rock and fortress, that strong tower in which we find our
