Welcome back! I pray that you enjoyed book one. Thanks for coming back. That was a good cliffhanger I left you on, wasn’t it? (smile) From Under A Bridge II will be the second part of my journey in my life. So as I said in book one, buckle your seatbelts and hold on because what you’re about to read in this one is to help and not hinder. I just thank God for bringing me through.
Chapter II
Jeremiah 29:11 says For I know the plans I have for you,
declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
So once I inhaled, I didn’t know that was the beginning of a trip that I’ll never forget: Sitting in that hot bathroom and getting high, sweat coming down off of both of us. One thing about smoking crack is the fact that it will get you high, nervous, and delusional. But at that time, I enjoyed being high, and I enjoyed being in his world. It may sound sick, but that’s the way I felt at that time. How could he leave me now? We had everything in common. Why would he beat me now? We had everything in common. Why would he cheat on me now? We had everything in common!
The mind is a battlefield. That’s why we have to guard our minds and our hearts at all times. At that moment, I just let my mind and my heart take over. We only had forty dollars’ worth of crack. You would think that it wouldn’t last long. His sister beat on the door and scared both of us to death. As I recall, I think we had been in the bathroom for over three hours. I’m pretty sure they knew something was going on because the bathtub was dry, and we had on the same clothes.
We came out of the bathroom, went in the living room, and sat with the rest of the family. It seemed like all eyes were on us. Maybe it was or maybe it was the drugs working on us. When we did finally wire down, we went to bed. I was laying there thinking to myself What have I gotten myself in to? Was this the type of life I wanted for myself?
At that time, it was because I had my Timothy. For a couple of days after, we really didn’t talk about what happened. I guess we were wondering what we had gotten ourselves into. It didn’t stop us from smoking. We just wondered on and kept on doing what we did because I had gotten hooked to the demon. In other words, the demon said, I got you!
☺ Timothy would ask me, What’s the matter with you?
And I would say, Nothing.
But deep down inside, I wanted to get high. I was sitting there thinking about the way it made me feel even though the high was just for seconds.
When it comes to smoking crack, it will deceive you, make a fool of you, have you thinking that you’re on top of the world, and that you’re untouchable. You all know what I’m talking about. It’ll have you acting like Scarface, Say hello to my little friend!
☺ In my mind, all it was saying was Get high, get high!
All I could think about was another hit. This went on and on and on.
At this time, we were still living in Daytona with his sister. Timothy was working, and I was staying at home. When he got paid on Friday’s, we would get high. This went on for a couple of weeks. At this time, his sister, was getting tired of us living there. I always felt deep down that she knew what was going on. She never said or did anything about it. Therefore, I felt we were getting away with it. But as you know two women cannot live together. A couple of days later, I could tell by her actions that she was tired of me lying around the house. Back then, I didn’t understand what the problem was because I didn’t see anything wrong with what I was doing. Now, I understand.
This particular Friday, Timothy gave her the money that we would give her weekly. She didn’t want the money. She wanted us out of her house. That caused a big commotion that had pretty much gotten everyone’s attention. We lived in the projects, and every time something went on, everyone knew it within minutes. We went to his mother’s house. We told his mother our side of the story, which was all upside down. 10329.jpg Can you imagine listening to a story from two crack heads? We made his sister look horrible. The whole time Timothy’s mother knew the truth, but she never let on to it.
After being at his mother’s house for a couple of days, we went back to New Smyrna Beach. Do you remember my great grandmother, the lady I spoke about in Book One? (If you don’t know about my great grandmother, you obviously didn’t read Book One. Go to your local bookstore and get Book One. ☺) Now back to the story.
Across the street from my great grandmother was a little house for rent. It was the same house I stayed in before, mentioned in book one. I told my great grandmother an old fantastic story about what happened in Daytona. That means, I told her my version.☺ She spoke to the woman who owned the house. She knew the woman quite well. She gave the woman some money for first month’s rent under the conditions that we would keep up with paying the rent and no wild parties, things of that nature. I was excited because it was me Timothy, and my middle son.
Everything was going well for a couple of days. Timothy had to find rides back and forth to Daytona to go to work. It’s nothing like having your own transportation. He was able to give my grandmother the rent for that first month. After that, it became a disaster because he was unable to get rides to work. So, no work meant no job. The little money we did have, we used to buy drugs. We started to take advantage of my great grandmother’s kindness. We started using her to pay our bills, buy our food, and she already had my baby boy taking care of him. She also was helping me with my middle son. When I look back, I wish I could tell her how much I love her and that I’m very sorry for the things I put her through. She was the one who raised me until I went with my mother. To everyone reading this book, don’t take people’s kindness as weakness because it will come back to you.
Eventually, Timothy had no job, and I wasn’t working. At that time, I wouldn’t work on a pie train if you put the pies on for me. We were just sitting around looking at each other and getting mad at each other because we wanted a hit of crack cocaine. This is when the beatings started occurring. At times, I was beaten by him just because. My great grandmother was helping us to eat. You can say she was taking care of pretty much everything. Timothy went out to hustle starting at 8:00 in the morning. I wouldn’t see him until late that night. I was sitting at home biting my fingernails and waiting on him because I knew that if he was gone that long, he would have large amounts of stuff for us to smoke.
When he did come home, he was broke. But I can tell that he was high, and he had the smell of malt liquor on him. I would have an attitude, and here we go again! I got jumped on because I had an attitude. I was too scared to say anything or do my own hustle because I knew that if I tried he would beat me.
When he would let me get high, he controlled what he gave me. Sometimes you couldn’t see the piece that he gave me. I never said anything because I wanted to get high. One day my great grandmother had me drive
