    Chapter One

    My Life

As I fell to the floor, I looked up into his eyes. Staring up at him, I saw nothing but anger and rage beaming back at me. I was panicked, scared for my life and helpless. He picked me up by one arm and threw me into the wall with all his strength.

I heard the tapping of hooves and a loud growl coming to my rescue. Without a thought, my pig bit down on his wrist till blood began to trickle down.

I knew I did not have much time left with her and at times, I wondered if I was doing the right thing. This pig was my girl and my best friend, and I would do anything for her.

These are just a few of the memories from a chapter in my life that is forever ingrained in my memory.

My name is Kelsey Jean from Charlotte, North Carolina and at the age of twenty-five years old I found myself twiddling my thumbs in the break room at work, trying to get rid of the horrible migraine I had. I was eating lunch while watching a game show on TV and thinking of simpler times and memories in my head. A few years ago when I was twenty-three I had the perfect life and by perfect I mean that I had the perfect job, perfect family and the perfect fiancé. Yes, life was good then, maybe a little too good as I was living the all American girl dream. What more could I have asked for, what more could I have wanted? Thoughts and what if’s along with other life struggles drove me to second guessing my life and allowed fear to creep into my mind at that time of my life.

As I snapped back to reality, I noticed myself humming the Taylor Swift song Back To December. Hmm… hmm… hmm… You gave me all your love, and all I gave you was goodbye… hmm… hmm… hmm. Yes, fear crept in and led me to leave that part of my perfect life. Little did I know that by giving up my fiancé would also mean for me to give up a lot of perfectness in my life. Reminiscing a little longer on the thought of a time that use to be, I figured I’d better get back to work. As I looked around the table I noticed all the other office girls were busy on their phones talking to their boyfriends and husbands. Realizing now that I was the only single girl at the doctor’s office that I was working at, I tried to make myself feel better and think about what I did have. I do have a loving family that I get to go home to every day, but that just made me think of being twenty-five and still living at home. None the less I thought of my mom who I loved dearly and my dad who is a great man. My brother Johnny was two years older than me and lived down the street with his wife, Leigh. They were expecting a baby boy soon and would name him Wyatt. I also have two incredible younger sisters. Annie was twenty and struggled with autism and other life disabilities. In spite of her disabilities, she was independent and intelligent and could tell you everything you would ever want to know about the royalty of England. Stacy was my youngest sister. She was fourteen, beautiful, and smart. Stacy enjoyed going to school and could not wait until she was able to drive.

Yes, I would like to be in love again and figured that the time would come when it was supposed to. Gathering my pride and walking with my head held high out of the break room, I cleared my mind of these thoughts and this made me remember the horrible migraine I had that was knocking me in the back of my head like a baseball bat. As the office lights blinded my eyes and while every sound seemed like it was ten times louder in my ears, I realized I could no longer concentrate on work. I cried to my office manager, Mrs. Love, telling her that I needed to go home so I could lie down and take medicine. Mrs. Love is one of the sweetest people I have worked with and she agreed that I needed to leave and offered me a ride home. I insisted to her that I was okay to drive myself since I only lived a few miles from the office. With a hug and call me when you get home, Mrs. Love let me leave.

I do not remember much about the drive home, but the red street lights seemed to take forever to change back to green. I felt like I was getting nowhere. I kept thinking to myself, how much further until I am home? I entered my neighborhood and sped down the road to my street, where I skidded into my driveway. I texted Mrs. Love that I had made it and was about to jump out of the car. That is when I noticed a Rottweiler standing in my yard. She was fit, black and brown in color and sniffing around my tree. I had not seen that dog before and I was timid to get out of the car. While sitting in the car, trying to figure out what to do, my migraine became more important than my fear of a Rottweiler. Trying not to make a noise, I got out of the car one foot at a time. However, when I shut the door, it squeaked, which caught the attention of the dog. At that second, the Rottweiler and I made eye contact. Like a flash of lightning, she came running at full speed toward me, with her tail
