About this ebook
Harold A. Workman Jr.
I have been writing poetry the majority of my life. I was a hard-working contractor that worked for people in all walks of life. Poetry is my way of sharing. My poetry is about good times and bad times, parents and children showing we are all the same with a bit of individualism. I hope you enjoy and relate to my writings. Thanks Nick for your help in finally getting this book published.

WHEN YOUR DUES ARE PAID
When you pay your dues all day.
And yet your problems seem to stay.
When your arms get weary and your mind does too, remember what I say to you.
Brother and Sister, there’s always another who stares at the stars.
Trying to figure out who the hell they are.
I know one purpose was meant to be,
And that’s for life not to be all that easy.
Just remember, we all have a load to bear.
It must be done no matter who cares.
When I feel alone and I shed my tears.
I just look at the stars and say, Maybe next year.
One thing I know as I’ve gone through life,
I’ve encountered the pain and the strife.
I’ve lost brothers in war and fire.
I’ve been a stripteaser and chauffer for hire.
I’ve been martial-arts instructor and ballet dancer.
I’ve done most everything in search of the answer.
One thing is for sure, the feelings are so real.
We must be patient and keep pushing on until, until we reach our peak and have reached the end.
It’s up to us and not others whether we succeed or win.
—Harry May, 1984
Once the words are written
That trouble our minds
A little piece of solitude
We hope to fully find
For when thoughts are troubled
And our days seem gray.
We need to find peace
In some earthly way.
So in my writings
I clear my thoughts
It’s a form of therapy
That can’t be bought
For some, it works.
While for others it doesn’t
But we never will know
Unless our thoughts we’ve wrote.
So take some time
To ease your pain
Write down your thoughts
And free your brain.
—Harry, February 26, 2000
HEARTEN YOURSELF
When all seems lost—
And everything is high in cost!
Just hang on and soon you’ll see
That bright sunlit horizons can truly be.
Just pay the dues that must be paid
And things will work out someway
Try to smile when you’re sad and blue
Keep
