FOREWORD
This foreword is written with immense delight. This delight is occasioned by the fact that a young academic; in this generation conceived and deemed it necessary to draft a book that demystifies the very mysterious essence of Accounting both as a Profession and a Course of study. The syllogisms of facts and figures are rarely mixed with a somewhat tripartite model brought in knuckles or nuggets as the case may be.
A verified claim in Nigeria holds that until Accounting is enlisted as part of courses in the Social & Management Science Faculty; the Faculty is still a work-in-progress. This accounts for the enormity of enrolment nationwide. Now, as astonishing as that statement may be, it calls for some care. Why is Accounting so energetically sought after? The answer to these and many questions are interestingly captured in this book. This is what makes this book unique.
The language of the book is very commendable. This, I noticed, is intentional. For whatever the intention that the Author has factored, I am sure that the simple language of this text will afford a lay-person access to the immense truism and facts spelt out in this book without any rigour.
Beyond the above mentioned, the tripartite model espoused in this book is a lesson that should transcend across many disciplines in the social & management sciences, Humanities, Law and in fact the Sciences. This model or concept as the case may be shows the inter-relationship between Practice, Policy and Research in a beautiful way. In my opinion, this should not be confined to the Accounting profession. Scholars in Sister Faculties should take cue from this and come up with a treatise that will clearly articulate the inter-workings of their disciplines beyond the confines of the ivory-tower.
A careful diagnosis of the language of this material shows that the Author is a product of a multichotomous experience whether at the research, policy or practice of the accounting profession. Further, the Author sought a better clarification of certain ambiguities found in his process of inquiry. I am happy that the same man who sought for the solution of a puzzle is now technically offering a panacea of a sought.
There is yet a noteworthy style that this Author employed to drive his message with a rare precision. This is the introduction of biblical truths as precursor to his statements. This only shows quite honestly a great academic in the making. I have no doubt that this piece will meet a multiple need across a multiple section of Undergraduates, Graduates, Professionals and Policy-makers.
While I congratulate the Author for a beautiful piece, I offer my deep-rooted congratulations to the reader.

The author strives to increase awareness and establish on elements that make up accounting profession, stressing especially the place of tertiary institutions in building competent accountants with robust acumen. Oladele Femi further explains that it is most likely the tertiary institutions should be able to create awareness, provide knowledge and coach students with skills and competencies required in the work place environment. He argues that the accounting profession in Nigeria has tended too much towards practice, assuming a stereotypical stance whereas the profession is tripartite. In his drive to explain his viewpoint he has been able to through the pages in this book enlighten readers of the multifaceted profession and its place in society not just as a practice inclined profession, but as a noble profession dedicated to practice, policy and research.
I strongly recommend this piece to students and practitioners of accounting, educators, policy makers and researchers. It opens up new frontiers for scholarly research in accounting education.

PREFACE
Two challenges inspire this book. First, there is a fear that the relevance of tertiary-trained accounting graduates are losing hold in the industry as accounting may no longer be favored among students as a first course, since anyone can attain recognition as a chartered accountant by passing qualifying examinations of professional bodies and meeting other requirements. However, it is important to stress
