About this ebook

"The Climb Up Life's Mountain"
This is a book of poems written over the years through different
challenges, problems, and losses. Pats feelings and thoughts come through in her words and expressions. One such loss was the devastating loss of her mother who was killed by a drunk driver. Her mother was forty five years of age. At the same time her father and young sister were critically injured. Then there were the sad losses of her sister and only brother to cancer. There were overwhelming business losses and personal problems.

These life experiences are incorporated in her poetry. These one hundred twenty two poems were selected from over seven hundred poems she has written.

Pat has had more than twenty five of her poems read at Memorial and Funeral Services. She is published in Poetry.Com and they have put some of her work on CDs. She has had a number of articles and poems published in the Realtoro Magazine, a real estate publication. Her poems have been used in Church Bulletins and published in a paper called Mountain Talk.

Pat writes Personalized Poetry which tells about peoples lives,
personal events as well as Patriotic, Political, Religious poems,
motivational, inspirational, and poems on various other subjects.

She has had thank you responses to her poems from the
Queen of England, three different Presidents, one Presidents
wife, the owner of a large clothing store chain, as well as other
individuals.

Pat Morrell-Donnelly

After working over fifty one years in the real estate industry as a Realtor and real estate Broker in the Bay Area near San Francisco Pat has had time to publish three books in three consecutive years. “Honoring” is her fourth book. “The Climb Up Life’s Mountain” published in 2009, 122 motivational and inspirational poems. “Poems For Conservatives” in 2010, political and patriotic poems. It includes cards and letters from three past Presidents and one First Lady in response to poems Pat has written for them. And “My Journey As A Realtor” in 2011, about her vast and varied experiences and the changes in technology through the years working in the real estate profession. Pat has written over 1400 poems over the last thirty five years. She writes personalized poems about people’s lives. She has had over thirty poems read at Funerals and Memorial Services. Pat has written poems for a Governor, U. S. Senator, U. S. Congressman, a Secretary of State, and three Georgia Representatives. Born and raised during the 1930’s depression for the first fourteen years of her life there was no inside plumbing, no electricity, no running water in her family's home. At the age of fourteen she worked at a cake and cookie factory part time and attended school part time. Graduating High School at age sixteen she worked full time at various jobs including her fifty one year real estate career from then on until 2007. Pat loves writing poems expressing her thoughts in rhyme. Writing is something she must do. Thoughts wake her up in the night and she has a pen and paper on her night stand, scratching out her thoughts, deciphering them later. She feels writing may be her purpose for being on this earth. Pat has also started work on her fifth book. She realizes at her age, “Time is of the essence.” Pat has been blessed with a loving family and friends and wishes to honor them with her “Honoring” book.

Before Pat’s sister, Imogene Davis Bartholomew, passed away from cancer in 1992 she kept encouraging Pat to get her poem’s published. This book, The Climb Up Life’s Mountain is dedicated to her sister, as well as Pat’s loving Parents, Babe and Cliff Davis, and beloved husband, Alan B. (Don) Donnelly.

Through all the adversities and challenges her faith kept her going. She was baptized at the age of eleven. She was encouraged by her cousins, Susie and James Dokey, who served over fifty years at the Church of Christ in Petrolia, Texas. Later she attended the Church of Christ at San Leandro and Vallejo, California.

Pat has been writing poems for over thirty five years. Most of her education came from the School of Hard Knocks.

Born in Texas and raised during the 1930’s depression era she and her family had little in the way of material things. There was no indoor plumbing, running water, or electricity. The toilet was some distance out behind the back of the house.

Although her family had little food wise, when Hobo’s (as they were referred to back then,) came knocking on the back door, her mother always found a bit of food for them.

Pat’s family moved to California when she was fourteen. She immediately found a job. She worked four hours a day and Saturdays, attending school four hours a day.

After High School there was no money for College. Pat was then able to work full time. In those days people understood if they wanted something in life you go out and work for it. There was no welfare or give away programs. No free lunch.

Later in life after working at various jobs such as office work, and modeling in San Francisco, Oakland, and Los Angeles, she worked over fifty one years in real estate. It was sometimes referred to as a twenty four hour seven days a week job.

Starting with nothing but hard work, some knowledge, and OPM (It’s called Other People’s Money,) she was able to acquire twenty eight rental units. However, in the early nineties, because of the real estate down turn in California, she lost it all. She got what they call upside down in her properties, owing more than they were worth. At that point in her life it was too late to make it all over again.

This is a book of poems written over the years through different challenges, problems, and losses. Pat’s feelings and thoughts come through in her words and expressions. One such loss was the devastating loss of her mother who was killed by a drunk driver. Her mother was forty five years of age. At the same time her father and young sister were critically injured.
