FORWARD
THERE ARE SO many reasons for writing this book. Besides helping me work through my past. My Mother-in-Law, Cathy, can now understand so many things that were too difficult to explain. When she could only understand or hear, part of what was going on around her. For me writing was a way of letting out a lot of emotional feelings and thoughts while I was working through a life time of secrets.
If by writing this book, I give one person the courage to get professional help, to make their life better, it will be worth it. You don’t have to live with the pain and fear of childhood trauma. We all have difficulties to overcome in life, some people have no problem moving forward, but some of us get stuck, and can’t get past it. Therapy can help with kids, adults, and Families. It can also give you back the self confidence and self worth that may have been taken away. I never dreamed I would ever write a book. Don’t let anyone take away your dreams, or keep you from living them.

The Turning Point
IT WAS THURSDAY, August 30, 2007, and I was getting ready to celebrate my fiftieth birthday. Not much was planned, as my uncle Ed had picked this Labor Day weekend for his wedding. His start to a brand-new life with Darlys, a woman he had known for quite a while. He lost his first wife, my aunt Candy, to cancer a short time ago, and he was ready to move on with the next chapter in his life. Candy was a very special lady, but due to her MS and then cancer, her life was a struggle. Ed is a wonderful man and well deserving of a new life; he had spent a good part of the last years of Candy’s life taking care of her, and it was time for him to enjoy life again.
My birthday arrived, and things were getting a little busy as people were arriving for the big wedding. My sister Barb and her husband, Nolan, would be coming from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. My brother Mark was here from Charlotte, North Carolina, and my mom’s sister Donna was here with her family, from California. I soon could tell that no matter what today brings, we will be celebrating all weekend, with lots of friends and relatives. The best part, after all is done with the wedding, Bruce, Robert, and I would all be leaving for a well-deserved vacation to Sedona, Arizona.
I worked the morning of my birthday, and it wasn’t long and Gail called and wanted to go for lunch. I was so surprised that she had the time for me the day before her dad’s wedding! We went to Paradiso, our favorite spot, for lunch and margaritas. We talked about the upcoming big day and all the running she had to do. Rehearsal was tonight at the lakes, so we didn’t have a lot of time. It was so fun just to spend time with her and start my day off with a margarita in hand!
I went home after lunch and called Mom to see when Barb and Nolan would be arriving. Mom was never really sure about Barb, she always had her own plans, and they usually were not the same as Mom’s. It was later in the afternoon when we heard that Barb and Nolan had arrived at their hotel. We decided to meet with them at the Ramada in the early evening. We could bring our suits and swim and have a few drinks by the pool. This sounded like an awesome way to spend my birthday. We all got ready and threw our suits in a bag, and off we went
