The Philosophy of Maria Montessori:What It Means to Be Human

About this ebook
Times have changed, and science has made great progress, and so has our work; but our principles have only been confirmed, and along with them our conviction that mankind can hope for a solution to its problems, among which the most urgent are those of peace and unity, only by turning its attention and energies to the discovery of the child and to the development of the great potentialities of the human personality in the course of its formation. Dr. Montessori from the forward to The Discovery of the Child, Poona 1948
Robert Buckenmeyer Ph.D.
I have taught English, Latin, Philosophy, Montessori Education and Oriental Religions dating from September, 1956 through January, 2008. My greatest joy has been watching students learn and participating in their learning. But, my learning and my teaching found inspiration and instruction from what I consider to be the model both of teaching and of learning, Maria Montessori and it began when I first read her Montessori Method, Fall of 1967. I have endeavored to read anything and everything of her words published since then. I had the privilege of being given Mary Pyle’s carbon copies of Montessori’s California lectures in 1967 by Edna Andriani and Elisa Harrison in the presence of and with the permission of Mario Montessori in Palo Alto, California. I edited and CLIO published them in 1997, the first time they were available in print and to the general public. Graduated with a B.A. from University of Santa Clara, M.A. from Gonzaga University, M.A. & Ph.D. from U.S.C., Post-Doctoral in Montessori and Piaget Studies, from Belmont University; Post-Doctoral in Language and Religion Studies from Notre Dame University.
