Charm School Graduation Day
Introduction
Mrs. Primrose, the girls have arrived!
exclaimed Esmerelda in excitement.
Well, bring them into the library where we can become better acquainted,
responded Mrs. Primrose, head held high, somewhat rigid in her demeanor with an ever present snobbish air of the polished upper crust.
Esmeralda rushed to the door to greet the arriving students. One by one she welcomed the students and showed them to the library where they were to wait until Mrs. Primrose introduced herself and showed them around the school and of course, their bedrooms, where they were to stay for the semester. Esmerelda was the in house maid and house mother for the girls while they attended
The Primrose School of Charm,
one of the more well known charm schools, especially among the upper crust who sent their young debutante daughters to learn proper etiquette and how to become charming young women.
Some would enter a little rough around the edges, spoiled, or shy and insecure, but all would graduate proper young women.
There should be eight girls this semester, Esmerelda.
Mrs. Primrose informed her.
Yes, ma’am.
Seven have arrived so far.
replied Esmerelda.
Finally, the last girl knocked on the big oak doors. Esmerelda opened the door with a creaking noise. She welcomed the last young girl in and showed her to the library where the other girls were waiting. She called out to Mrs. Primrose informing her all the girls had arrived. Mrs. Primrose immediately made her way into the library and introduced herself.
Welcome, girls, to the internationally known ‘Primrose School of Charm’ where young girls learn to become proper young women. My name is Mrs. Primrose and I am head master of this school and will be your main instructor. You have already met Esmerelda, who will be your housemother. I f you have any complaints or troubles, Esmerelda will be happy to listen. Esmerelda is also in charge of the amenities. As such, clean linens, towels, and of course, your meals.
Mrs. Primrose continued.
We will cater to your every need while you’re here but you must remember to take your studies seriously in order to graduate from charm school,
she reminded them.
Now, I have name tags for everyone to put on so we can become better acquainted.
she pointed to a small pile on one of the library tables.
She picked up the first name tag and called out the name, Jada Jackson.
Here,
responded a young girl of about fourteen with faded, studded jeans and a brightly colored tunic top.
She got up and walked to the table where Mrs.
Primrose handed her a nametag and said, It is a pleasure to meet you, Jada.
Jada pinned on her nametag while Mrs. Primrose introduced her to the rest of her classmates.
Girls, I’d like to present to you, Miss Jada Jackson.
Hi Jada,
responded the girls in near unison. Jada said
What’s up!
and flamboyantly returned to her seat.
She dressed like she was very urban and talked a little shady. She would be one to watch.
Next, Melissa Worthers,
read Mrs. Primrose.
A young girl in a fashionable skirt and blouse got up and approached the table reaching for her nametag.
Class, I’d like to present Melissa Worthers,
introduced Mrs. Primrose.
Hi Melissa,
responded the girls.
Melissa seemed very sure of herself as she said hello to the rest of the class and returned to her seat. She was definitely debutante material. And was a beauty with her blonde locks and big blue eyes.
Next, Katie Cartwright,
read Mrs. Primrose.
Here,
sounded a delicate voice from the corner.
A somewhat fragile looking girl stood up and made her way quietly to the table.
Girls, I’d like to present Miss Katie Cartwright,
introduced Mrs. Primrose.
The girls said hello and Katie shyly returned to her seat. Katie was definitely a demure one.
Next, Miss Amanda Parker,
read Mrs. Primrose.
Here,
answered a young girl in the back.
Amanda slowly got up to get her nametag and made her way to Mrs. Primrose.
Class, I’d like to present Amanda Parker,
introduced Mrs. Primrose.
The girls said, Hi Amanda!
Amanda smiled and said, Hello ya’ll,
in a charming southern accent before returning to her seat.
She was obviously a Southern Belle noted Mrs. Primrose.
We are glad to have you with us and we might be able to learn a little Southern charm from you, young lady.
Mrs. Primrose pointed out.
Next, I’d like to present Chandra Wells.
Mrs. Primrose introduced.
Hi, Chandra,
responded the girls. Chandra was the only girl of color among them.
Hi, I’m Chandra, and I’m from Dallas, Texas,
sounded Chandra boldly before returning to her seat.
And next, I’d like to introduce, Miss Amber Ashton.
The girls all responded with, Hi Amber!
Amber looked nerdish in her glasses as she approached the table fumbling for her nametag.
Hi,
responded Amber nervously looking about the room as she returned to her seat.
And next, I’d like to present Anne or Annie, as she likes to call herself, Little.
A young girl dressed in a pair of expensive track pants and a sweat jacket with the most expensive set of Nike sneakers on stood up and walked to the table and put on her nametag. The other girls said hello and noted how athletic she looked as she sauntered back to her seat.
And last but not least, Class, I’d like to present to you, Mary Brighton.
Mrs Primrose finished.
An obviously overweight girl who looked too large to be fourteen appeared before the table and pinned on her name tag with some difficulty as her chest was broad and the pin was rather small. She seemed a bit insecure and self-conscious about her weight but was, all in all, rather plain looking.
After returning to her seat, Mrs. Primrose told the class she certainly had her work cut out for her this semester. Obviously, she felt the girls needed a little direction with their present social skills.
Going by appearance alone, I imagine you all need a little polishing,
she told the girls.
Now that we all have been properly introduced, I’d like to show you around the school.
Follow me,
she instructed.
And make that a single file line you follow me in,
she continued.
The girls got up and filed in line, one behind the other. They followed Mrs. Primrose out the paneled doors of the library back into the entryway where they noticed a grand stairway which led upstairs. The wooden banister curved gracefully up to the second floor. To the right of the stairs, the entryway opened into what appeared to be a great hall.
Mrs. Primrose stopped for a moment and spoke, This room is the dining room where you will be taking your meals.
The girls followed her into the dining room which had a large banquet table where they were to eat their meals. From the dining room, they followed Mrs. Primrose down a corridor which led into a large kitchen where Esmerelda cooked their meals with two other servants. After showing them the dining hall and kitchen, they traced their steps back to the entryway where the magnificent staircase was.
As you may have guessed, your sleeping quarters are upstairs.
Follow me,
she instructed.
She led them up the grand staircase to a hallway which boasted several comfortable bedrooms.
Now I will designate your rooms you will be staying in for this entire semester. As there are only five bedrooms, you will each have a room mate you will share a bedroom with.
Mrs. Primrose stopped outside the doorway of one of the bedrooms and spoke, Chandra and Jada, you will be sharing this bedroom.
Your bags should be beside each one of your beds. Go ahead and become familiar with your rooms and if you like you may explore the house or enjoy the library before dinner. You will meet in the dining room at six sharp for dinner. You must not be late. That is your first lesson you will learn, there is no such thing as being fashionably late! It is very rude and inconsiderate to your host.
she continued lecturing.
Lesson one, girls, is what?
Mrs. Primrose asked.
Never be late for dinner!
the girls all replied in unison.
Very good, girls.
replied Mrs. Primrose.
Jada and Chandra entered their bedroom and went straight to their respective beds. Soon, you could hear their voices chattering down the hallway as they were getting
