In Joseph’s Department Store in Fremont, Ohio, there was a little-girl mannequin that always caught my eye. I’d look longingly at her when we shopped in the girl’s department, where she was all dressed up, promoting a seasonal outfit.
I knew I wasn’t supposed to touch her. But one time, I couldn’t resist sneaking a feel of her golden curls. Her wig was oddly stiff. But that didn’t matter; I wanted her anyway.
