    Towards a better

    Socio-economy

    Many people come and go in this life without reaching a clear answer for why they are selected from other creatures to be what they are. Many actually never make it to reach the essence of their life purposefulness. The reason for these failures have been explored by many researchers with different justifications. Most of the justifications are inter-related and most of them happen to meet at one main point that is not finding the hidden spot that build the unique life contribution story. ‘Breaking the shield’ is the result of exploring hundreds of case studies from different parts of the world. It talks about the creation and optimisation of inspiration, which is about everyone’s business.

    Breaking the shield towards inspiration get us hope, as without inspiration in reality, we can’t achieve or change anything of real value or that would create an outcome or even help us to leave a legacy in this life journey.

    In order to break the shield, we need to engineer inspiration and go to the roots of how to create and manage this inspiration. Finding everyone, every organization and every community inspiration is very important especially in unstable socioeconomies where everyone is looking for best alternatives to handle turbulences. In breaking the shield we’ll try to understand how to shift towards being resource independent while doing real developments not only growth. Thus discovering and managing our intrinsic powers wealth in a way never been experienced before. With Breaking the shield towards better inspiration, we can structure an extraordinary path out of the ordinary. A job thought for long time to be sacred and only the selected few can reach it.

    In this book, we consider inspiration as the most important process of our life as through inspiration, we can make individuals, organisations and societies reach new levels of achievement that never been reached before.

    Many of us miss the most important power in our life journey: that is, the power of choice. The power of choice comes from self-belief. For those who believe in God, the power of choice must still come as the second belief but, without believing in the power of choice we become like animals and live our days just to survive. With the power of choice, we thrive to make a difference in our life journey and specifically in integrating with our socio-economy.

    The good thing about working on developing the power of choice is that we work to represent a way of thinking and not to represent just power or status. The power of choice has always been linked to inspiration and quality of life which in reality reflect on our socio-economy too. Believing in our own power of choice means we can persist to make a better reality in our socio-economy. With persistence, Inspiration Engineering can create changes in the mindset, spirit and the passion of the heart towards something we believe in, something that is relevant to our choice(s).

    Inspiration Labs, is one of the main tools we’ve developed in Inspiration Engineering. The labs are considered to be techniques that help to ignite the power of choice which usually found to be hidden or unseen in our life. Through using the ‘divergent thinking’ we can find many opportunities (choices) in our socio-economy for solving a problem, thus either shifting to the most powerful one of it, or using a collective solution. Inspiration lab help to shape how the socio-economy can be perceived, so the greater our perception of what a life journey means, the greater our expectations would be (Buheji, 2016).

    When we started our journey in 2015 working towards putting the first book of Inspiration Economy called the ‘Handbook of Inspiration Economy’, we couldn’t cover the depth of Inspiration Engineering and how it works even though we’ve touched base on some of its case studies and how it could influence our communities. After one year research of what we have achieved through this Inspiration Engineering we believe this book will provide useful insights for our readers and concerned researchers of how we can practically develop targeted challenges to create a better living environment. The book sets out the concept and shows the methodology of how to create an inspiration economy that enhances the involvement of people in creating more socio-economic opportunities. It is a very useful reference for all type of organisations as it helps to do a focused troubleshooting and then Inspiration Engineering. It is very helpful to top management, students of management, innovation entrepreneurs and professionals of any discipline as it shows how to improve our legacy. We hope that original case studies will prove to be interesting for researchers and readers of psychology, sociology, and social studies besides human development specialists. The spirit which drives the book will help the reader to gain a mindset that appreciates learning by carrying out actions that will illustrate the meaning of inspiration engineering (Pascu & Lieshout, 2009).

    As shown in Figure 1 the book focus to show what is Inspiration Engineering then how to use it to create ‘waves of inspiration’ through its ability to : influence the socio-economy, create an inspired mindset that would create both stronger inspiration currency and better lifelong learning. The outcome of all these four enablers create the path towards a life sustained legacy.

    In order to show what and how Inspiration Engineering creates ‘waves of inspiration’ in detail, we go through the following chapters:

    Chapter One- Gently introduce the Inspiration Engineering, discuss the Hidden Intrinsic Powers within us and its importance to our socio-economic freedom, what is the role of Inspiration Labs as part of Inspiration Engineering. How we can create learning from failure and loss that would lead towards inspiration. The chapter introduce us to the reverse thinking, mindset management and spirit blockages which are very important to the pillars of inspiration. The chapter concludes with the Characteristics of Inspiration Engineering.

    Chapter Two- This chapter focus on setting one of the main constructs of Inspiration Engineering that is Inspiration Labs. The chapter shows the link of Inspiration Engineering with the discipline of psychology, including its relation to empathetic thinking. Here also we introduce the role of forecasting and its relevance to cycle of learning. The chapter concludes with how inspiration leads to radical developments.

    Chapter Three- In this chapter we illustrate how inspiration lab works. We start with the most important criteria’s for any inspiration lab which are reflected in the power of visualizing, power of common sense and the power of humbleness. We show how the lab helps in exploring opportunities and how this would lead to improving the quality of life. The chapter concludes with the importance of using the knowledge assets built during the inspiration lab journey.

    Chapter Four lays down the main strength of Inspiration Engineering that is the ability to ‘influence without power’. We try to explain how the challenges that turn to be opportunities can turn to be a source of influence. The chapter show the scale of observations and its role in the development of mindset. Therefore, the chapter discusses the behavioral economics and continuous reframing of the mindset. Finally, the chapter conclude about the transformation towards international outcome driven measures.

    Chapter Five- looks at the importance of problem solving techniques during inspiration labs, including the scientific methods used. The chapter show the importance of mindfulness and reasoning to reach a better level of problem solving. In this area we illustrate how economics is linked more and more to the spirit of problem solving and investigation. The chapter also shows how problem solving helps to change our attitudes. The work of rephrasing the problem help to reduce its complexity.

    Chapter Six- Shows the role of Inspiration Engineering in creating more innovative and entrepreneurial culture and how they integrate together. The discussion in this chapter is about how both innovation and entrepreneurship help in development of inspirational thinking and inspiring business models. The chapter shows how innovation and entrepreneurship help to build the most suitable inspiring mindsets and how inspiration labs help to develop this.

    Chapter Seven- We look in this chapter at the designs of Inspiration Engineering and how it starts with intentions and scenario planning. In chapter seven we also focus on the essence of things that would lead to building better designs of labs. Multidisciplinary, communication model and inspirational sources are another tool that enhance the inspiration engineering design. The chapter concludes with the legacy that inspiration engineering design create.

    Chapter Eight- This chapter focus on touching base on the competitiveness of Inspiration Engineering Formulas. Even though these formulas are yet to be developed more and more, in this chapter we show the basis of most the formulas. The formulas were linked with mechanisms of Inspiration Labs. The chapter addresses the role of inspiration in creating best Quality-Cost-Delivery model.

    Chapter Nine- This chapter is about the technique of Differential Diagnosis (DD) and the way it is applied. The chapter shows how the DD is highly related to the pull thinking. Also the chapter focus on the type of questions that would lead to DD.

    Chapter Ten- Chapter 10 is about Currency of Inspiration and why it’s important. In a nutshell the chapter try to show how this inspiration currency can solve lots of socio-economic issues. The chapter links between Thinking, Knowledge Economy, Happiness Economy and Inspiration Engineering. Finally the chapter discusses how this inspiration currency would help to further raise our capacity to generate more learning that would lead to better socio-economy.

    Chapter ElevenThe chapter focus on how we develop maturity through Inspiration Engineering. The scale of such maturity is discussed and observed till it creates a resilient spirit. The management of change to improve this maturity in the inspiration lab is also discussed here to help build a holistic thinking mindset.

    Chapter Twelve- This chapter shows how we can create inspiring business models that would lead to intelligent culture. The chapter as if it puts for us the constructs or requirements of intelligent culture such as practicing visioneering, modular thinking and mapping the journey to establish an inspiring strategy.

    In each of the twelve chapters, shown in Figure 2, we’ve given examples of actual case studies executed under Inspiration Lab as we prepare for the coming Inspiration Engineering. There is lots of learning we need to do together and we are sure that at the end of the journey we will learn from each other and share this competitive concept. So let’s begin!

    Introduction to

    1.1 Understanding Inspiration

    Inspiration has captured and continues to capture the interest of so many generations, cultures and organisations, yet it has just been clarified further recently by the work of Thrash and Elliott (2004, 2003). As psychologists, both Thrash and Elliott and others started to see clearly that inspiration is a state that can be ignited by overcoming challenges and also by solving problems.

    The word inspire comes from the experience of breathing-in and breathing into. The test of inspiration is about the power to inspire and to kindle inspiration in others. Inspiration as a currency has been used by different religions indirectly, as Hedge et al. (1878) noted. The Bible, followed by the Quran of Muslims, have used different methods to utilise the currency of inspiration to inspire its followers to act.

    Inspiration is telescopic and microscopic, creative not critical; it sees the truth in the gross, but not in the details. Inspiration is seen as the selection of God to use the most appropriate method, with human actions and relations embodying spiritual and divine truth in all its fullness and harmony. Inspiration concerns principles and laws that comes from man’s nature that are then reflected based on knowledge and experience. Inspiration consists in the selection of those human actions which correspond to spiritual causes and to the state of the mindset.

    Engineering of inspiration comes today in a world that is searching for more positive solutions that come from hidden opportunities. Therefore, any concepts that would help to explore or unleash opportunities are more and more in demand in real life today. For example, inspiration engineering bring "Differential Diagnosis’ as one of the concepts that would help identify variety of areas of inspiration within an organisation and even a society (Richardon et al., 2005).

    In searching for an inspiration opportunity, Buheji (2016) in the ‘Inspiration Economy Handbook’ considered the technique of observation to be the best methodology for unleashing hidden opportunities that create further inspiration. With focused observations, specific experiments are identified there to answer the hidden questions. In learning from the mystery stories of Sherlock Holmes, (Hintikka, 1983) shows how the observation of facts would result in Holmes concluding, in a case of theft, for example, that the watchdog did not bark as the horse was being stolen. Based on this important observation, as Hintikka mentioned, Holmes would start an abductive process that led to opportunities which later built up the questions that opened up what was fuzzy and not logical.

    The contextual research of inspiration can be relevant to its frequency, accumulation, depth and triggers, or it can be in relevant to its type, sources, enablers and blockages. At another level of the context of inspiration, we might study inspiration as relevant to its enablers, processes, sustenance, impact, characteristics, initiatives, impact and legacy.

    Today we hear that many organisations or societies are trying to trigger inspiration or create inspiration clusters for specific types of sector, or even to come up with an inspiration initiative. Figure 1-2 illustrates that, in inspiration, everything is connected. If we want to create an inspiring legacy, we have to increase the frequency and initiatives of our inspiration through what we call ‘inspiration labs’. And if we want to have sustained inspiration, we must build depth in the impact of our inspiration through our ‘inspiration engineering’. Such relations of different constraints are what differentiate every inspiration lab from others and therefore we use the term ‘inspiration engineering’ to carefully navigate the whole journey.

    We could consider inspiration therefore as a point where all our human ‘Capability’, ‘Changeability’, ‘Competency’ and ‘Capacity’, in short called 4 C’s, could meet in the best situation. When we are excited to this stage, we start to experience holistic feelings that integrate the power of the mind, the spirit, the heart and the physical status to highly appreciate our intrinsic powers.

    Experience tell us that we can trigger inspiration through stimulating one or more of our senses to move us to take action. Once this happens, we can consider that the mindset has started to enter into the inspiration economy.

    We can either inspire people through ‘what we are doing’ or we can inspire them through ‘what we are saying’. Inspiration happens when what we are doing is of benefit to others or it will trigger some insights for them. Actually, history shows us that we cannot inspire others unless we have been first inspired. Thus the more we manage to inspire others, the more we will obtain the reputation for influencing others. Inspiration engineering focuses on creating better inspiration economy environment thus lead to better inspired societies.

    1.2 Summary on ‘Inspiration Economy’

    Inspiration Economy (IE) is an economy that focuses on raising our capacity to discover the potential of human beings’ abilities to be the currency of competition and the source of a planned outcome and legacy. Thus, the Inspiration economy is a mix of many disciplines that lead to inspirational practices that motivate the spirit to a level that creates waves of inspiration in a socio-economic development. These mixed discipline practices can involve entrepreneurship, innovation, risk taking, opportunity seeking/creating, along with a focused and change-driven mind-set. It is a type of economy that capitalise on the abilities of our societies, organisations and human beings to discover their potential and capacities for inspiration (Buheji, 2016).

    IE is visualised to be a socio-economic concept that will lead humanity to utilise practices and make a contribution based on the development of the intrinsic power that comes through the process of inspiration. Since inspiration has been proven over history to be a source of energy that fuels socio-economic development and creates influence in reality without the need for major extra resources, inspiration engineering can be the vehicle that create such a stable evolving economy. Therefore, IE as a concept help to build inspirational currency based on challenges and visualised insights, leading to sustained capabilities in innovation and learning.     In order to create an engineered inspiration that would create a major differentiated outcome in our societies and economies we need to visualize a target and then strive towards getting our high value, i.e. a value that is worth to sacrifice our life for. With this visualization and striving we will create a learning that would ensure sustained practices of better socio-economic outcomes.

    1.3 Introducing ‘Inspiration Engineering’

    Inspiration have been conceptualized in terms of both its purpose and function (Thrash et al., 2010; Thrash and Elliot, 2004). Inspiration Engineering is about the optimisation of inspiration and the utilisation of its qualities as mediator for positive change and organisation or society development or transformation.

    Inspiration engineering is a science and an art that are collaborated together to create a change that would lead to better tangible products and/or service.

    Due to its power, inspiration if well engineered can uncover blind spots around us and our communities. This engineering and optimisation of power used to be the source of excitement for many scientists between the time of Ibn Sina till Einstein. Recent work of researchers as Thrash and Elliot (2003) and before that Solomon (1983) shown that inspiration if well engineered and orchestrated it would create a proactive stimulus that would outperform those under-inspired.     Through attempting to engineer the enablers, we create measures and surveys, then we create criteria and we build up tools and mechanisms that would lead to increase our ability to measure the ‘inspire-dynamics’ which mean understanding how inspiration is happening and how it can be managed. Figure 1-3 show the concept of Inspiration Engineering working parts and how its leads to opportunities and measured outcome.

    The concept of inspiration engineering focus on studying what type of challenges facing inspiration after defining variety of techniques of how it is triggered. As a new concept also inspiration engineering focus on how inspiration could enhance its influence on societies, even in difficult times.

    Inspiration engineering as a concept is based on the understanding the sources of Inspiration (SOI) be it in organisation or society. Since SOI are not fixed and it can’t be easily determined the concept tries to explore these sources by different troubleshooting approaches such as ‘learning by doing’, ‘learning from failures’, ‘holistic thinking’, utilisation of reflections and interactions, or even learning from formal educational setting and diversity management.

    Through inspiration engineering we can forecast the future intelligently by utilising visualisation and managing inspiration pain and gain. This concept is unique too in raising and optimising curiosity and focus through exploring and enhancing ideation. Therefore inspiration engineering can be considered as a concept that cover the different perspectives of inspiration, as ideation, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship.     Inspiration Engineering today is implemented without title in many organisation and in different projects that worth billions of dollars. We can see IE in our daily life as we see how inspiring insights transforms to the market or reality. As inspiration is construct of discovery and discovery is the product of opportunity and opportunity is product of observation that comes with visualisation and which all build up the spirit of persistence and raise the capacity for perseverance. This means we need to engineer these constructs of inspiration: visualisations, observations, opportunities and discoveries and link it with a purpose in life. As IE is focused towards pushing for practices of human based economy we have specified that the focus and purpose need to be always clearly linked to socio-economic issues. This type of thinking and mindset we call it Pull Thinking

    Inspiration Engineering is therefore about applying inspiration techniques that help to discover the hidden opportunities in the real world. These applications is more of testing and free space for trial by piloting as if we are in research and development laboratories, therefore called for short (Inspiration Labs) which its results helps to create later the properties and the activities of inspiration
