About this ebook
(The sequel to Carmelita de Andalucia)
This is a story about a little gypsy boy in the region of Andalucia in southern Spain. He is the little brother of CARMELITA DE ANDALUCIA; Juanito has found honor in being her little brother. But now, it is time for JUANITO, as he tells his story, to find his OWN special place and worth in his loving family and gypsy clan.
His journey will be a learning experience for ages seven through ninety-seven. CARMELITA defines what a hearts desire can do to help her little brother understand its value. A new law demands that all the children in Spain must go to school. This includes the gypsy children in his clan. JUANITO watches his big sister and finally learns what his FIRST hearts desire will be. The lessons learned, the folklore shared, new Spanish words introduced, and a mysterious old man led him to it. Hopefully, after this fun, pretend story, the young readers will ponder and stretch to be all that they are to become in their quest for worthiness through a hearts desire.
The celebration of La Romeria del Rocio is still a special pilgrimage today to visit La Paloma Blanca (The White Dove) Virgin statue in the springtime. The festivals in the story are also real in Spain with gypsies continuing to join in the merriment of these gatherings.
It is a unique experience for todays children to share first hand, the authors warm and colorful memories of the gypsies residence in southern Spain. Charlottes hearts desire is that they will be entertained by the small taste of Spanish and pretend gypsy culture shared in her book. The final book in the trilogy is in the making, ANTONIO DE ANDALUCIA (El Rey del Futuro).

Juanito De Andalucia - Charlotte Brokaw Powers
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS!
To Harold, my loving husband with the true gypsy spirit that led us to Spain, I say, "Thank
you." Our daughters, Terri and Tracy, gave me the reason and spirit to spin stories. Many of my friends gave me the courage to fulfill my heart’s desire to publish. To Caera Thornton, my illustrator, I give special hugs for giving my words wings. But most of all, I want to acknowledge my dearest friend, Robert Scruggs, who professionally edited
each word and patiently nurtured an aspiring writer.

Juanito de Andalucia
INTRODUCTION:
Because of the story written by Charlotte around the imaginary character, Carmelita de Andalucia,
I also was created. You see, I was Carmelita’s little brother! There was no way that I could just let my part of the story end, because I have so much more to become. How could I let Charlotte leave the ending with only an umm
and with only Carmelita’s first heart’s desire fulfilled? After all, Charlotte did include me in her first story, and I am, JUANITO de ANDALUCIA, with a story of my own worth the telling! Our little, imaginary gypsy clan brought to life again by Charlotte is only her pretend interpretation of our culture according to her. She is no expert, but we exist on these pages because of her child-like imagination. Come with me again to southern Spain in the region of Andalucia, where I, JUANITO, will continue with the happenings of my loving, gypsy clan.

CHAPTER ONE
My Beginning
My gypsy clan has told me through our evening gatherings around the campfire, that I, Juanito de Andalucia, was born a cripple. I have no memory of this. The earliest moment that I recall is a magical return viaje (trip) to our beautiful little town of Puerto de Santa Maria in the region of Andalucia in southern Spain after a vendimia (grape harvest) in Jerez. Mostly, I recall the happiness and joy of everyone seeing the familiar view of the ocean from the highest hill before descending in our carros (wagons) to the familiar, little campground. I remember Carmelita, my big sister, carrying her RED FLAMENCO SHOES as she walked barefoot along the side of our wagon. Following near her were Perla, her goat, and Macho alias Sue, my dog. Papa and Mama walked ahead leading our trusty horse, Dusty, down the road toward our winter camp. I sat between my grandpa and grandma in our wagon with a clear view of this scene, which has remained locked in my memory, forever. Those around me were my world. I knew I was a part of this gypsy clan, and we were all surrounded by each other’s love. This is my beginning.
