About this ebook

This compilaltion of songs and poems was intended to be a personalized gift to the author's wife. The idea was to collect in one binder the author's better songs that were written for his lifelong rock and roll band, the Non. Early on the in the process the author started writing the poems that were added to the collection. Each of the songs and poems has a different theme addressing a range of emotions and personal insights. The works are roughly in chronological order, and they show an increasing emphasis on the author's belief in the need for faith in God.

Author

Lee Mark Sawatzky

The author was born in Kamloops, British Columbia and works as a lawyer. He is married and he has three grown children. A recent development of note was learning that a great-great-great grandfather on his mother’s side was one of the Canadian Fathers of Confederation. Although he has dedicated himself to specific sports over the years, he now does whatever he can to keep moving. He has coached soccer, and he has been a Rotarian, on a church board, and on the board of an assisted living home.

    road trip

on a road trip, another joke about the rust on the door

on a road trip, you’ve got the radio and there’s tapes on the floor

even though it’s just starting you know that it’s what you missed

heading into the cool night air on another road trip

tire tracks on Rats and Snakes in this American-made year

boys will be boys when they don’t look when they can leer

a long term investment is just a tuxedo on a bet

like the moving picture map from Indiana Jones

are those your shoelaces and what shoes do you own

signs show on the window, but don’t wait before they go

someone said something and you wonder how he knows

no one does their income tax on the road out of town

by Sunday night it will all be coming down

trash the mid-day project and burn commitment to the ground

Billy hasn’t called back yet but he’ll come around

    Motorcycles and Marriage

Motorcycles have helped me understand marriage.

    When I bought my motorcycle

I really didn’t know what I was getting into.

Who could have guessed at the cost of insurance,

the problems I would encounter storing the bike, or

even the quandary of when and where to drive.

I felt an immediate and resolute allegiance

to my new motorcycle, and I always think of it with affection.

I bought it for good reasons, of course, including

    the thrills that accompany acceleration,
