    My name is Louis. I live in a small cottage that backs into a forest. I have lived here for many years. Like all people, I have had to endure many things, but I was strong enough to survive. Life is one of the greatest miracles that God has given us. How we treat life is up to us.

    Sometimes, however, we have no way of changing things. We have to make the best of the hand that is dealt us. I have a story to tell of part of my life. I have lived with a secret, although many people can say the same. I kept a secret out of shame; shame which was not created by me. I feel there are many curves in life, but you must stay on the road and keep going forward or all is lost. Determination is necessary to succeed, regardless of what happens.

    I have a garden that gives me great pride. I owe a great deal of it to Mother and Father. They were both raised on farms and gave me all the skills of gardening. They were always kind and good, and they taught me right from wrong. You know what’s right and you do it. I can thank my parents for all of this, as well as six generations of farmers in my family.

    I had two friends who assisted me in the garden. West and Steven would plant things for me. West was blond with blue eyes. He was a spiritual person aspiring to get in touch with the higher plain in life, as he said. He wished for heaven, which I
