The Pentateuch, Torah: The Five Books of Moses
Author

Warren Sherwood Bennett

As said in the prophecy, God is the source of all knowledge and life-giving breath. These matters of the fact lead the way to all forces on Earth and all unto death. This author has visualized and realized how his life has been blessed with the verse to feel with his zeal just how he could be prized with some wisdom of God’s universe. They recently had a great-grandchild, a boy, as their twenty-fifth one, and somehow, they also just had their first great-great-grandchild. This makes them great-great-grandparents now.

    The Forth book Mo`-ses

    Chapter I.

The Lord spoke to Mo`-ses somewhere in the wild

Of Mount Si`-nai inside where they knew,

    Of Is`-ra-el’s whole congregation beguiled,

In the first day & month, & year two.

"This visit came after the exodus from

E-gypt-land, saying, "Now is the time

To count the entire congregation, the sum

Of the children of Is`-ra-el’s prime.

"To name ev’ry one of their father’s house, by

Ev’ry male in each clan by their names.

To take the whole census, & there certify

    Individuals, all their surnames.

"From twenty years old & up, all able men,

To go forth in their armies to war.

Their armies will be numbered by Aar`-on then,

Also by you to verify more.

"A man of each tribe will be with you indeed,

As the head of his father’s house, and,

The names of these men, who stand with me in need,

Of tribe Reuben, the count of each band.

E-li`-zur, the son of one Shad`-e-ur, and,

    Bands She- lu`-mi-el, Sim`-e-on, and,

The son Zu-ri-shad`-da-i, his ev’ry band,

    Ju`-dah, Na`-thon, Am-min`-a-dab’s band.

    Of Is`-a-char, Za`-ar’s own of Na`-than, and,

    Of Zeb`-u-lun, Zu`-ar & He`-lon, E-li`-ab,

    Of children of Jo`-seph, of E`-pha-im, Pa`-gi-hand,

    E`-lish-ma, son of Am-mi`-hab.

    Ma-nas`-seh, Ga-ma`-li-el, Ben`-ja-min, Ab`-i-dan,

    Son Gid-de`-di, of Dan, Am-mi-shod`-del;

    Ab`-bi-dan, Ash`-er of Oc`-ron & Pa`-gi-mon

Of tribe Dan, E-li-a`-soph of Deu`-el.

    Of Naph`-ta-li, E`-nan of father A-hi`-ra,

Were renowned by their own congregation,

Of princes of tribes of their fathers, E-li`-ra,

The heads of this Is`-ra-el’s nation.

Now Mo`-ses & Aar`-ron were these men expressed

By their names, & assembled them all,

The very first day of the second month, crest,

And declared their pure pedigree call.

They proved their pure ancestry, by fam’ly line

Of their fathers according to name.

From twenty years old, & so older, are fine

By the census, according to claim.

So Mo`-ses was then ordered to number them,

In the Mount Si`-nai wilderness, bleak.

The children of Reuben, the eldest who stems

From the Is`-ra-el clan which was weak,

By their generations, by families, and

By the house of their fathers by name,

According to number of names in the land,

Ev’ry male, twenty years of more, - same.

The young men who fit his description were then

Chosen able to go off to war.

And those who were numbered of Reuben’s fit men,

    Counted forty-two thousand (& more).

The count of the children of Sim`-e-on, by

    Generations of fam’lies by their

Great house of their fathers & not falsify

Any numbers they made to declare.

According to numbers, their names by the polls,

Ev’ry male, age of twenty or more,

Were able to war & were written in scrolls,

    So were registered therefore, foreswore.

The ones who were numbered of Sim`-e-on’s tribe,

    Counted fifty-nine thousand, three hundred.

The childred of Gad, who made note by a scribe,

Were their families, listed each hundred.

By their fathers’ houses, according to name,

By the men twenty years old or more,

Were able to go off to war & win fame.

[They have lived at death’s door, & foreswore.]

Now those who were numbered of Is`-ra-el’s Gad,

    Forty-five thousand six hundred, fifty,

Descendants of Ju`-dah, the lineage they had,

By the house of their fathers was thrifty.

According to numbers of names of the men

That were twenty years old & were able,

To go forth to war when they’re called, & again,

[If they’ve kept themselves quite strong & stable.]

The ones who were numbered of Is`-ra-el’s Gad,

    Counted sev’nty-four thousand, six hundred.

Of Is`-a-char’s children, - what their fam’lies had

By the house of their fathers, each hundred.

By each hundred names of the stout-hearted men,

Who were twenty years old fit for war,

The ones from tribe Is`-a-char numbered again,

    Fifty-four thousand, four hundred more.

The children of Zeb`-u-lum, by generations,

    From their families in accord,

From twenty years upward in all tribal nations,

Were able to war for the Lord.

Those able fit men of the Zeb`-u-lum clan,

Numbered fifty & sev’n thousand men.

The children of Jo`-seph, (each E`-phra-im man),

    By their families, counted again

By their generations of each father’s clan,

And according to all numbered names,

From twenty years old & those older, - each man,

Was now able to war & make claims.

Now these who were numbered of E`-phra-im’s clan,

Came to forty-five thousand, five hundred.

The kin of Ma-nas`-seh, were counted each man,

By their generations of each hundred.

According to names of each hundred & more,

Were selected of twenty years old,

And those over twenty if able to war,

Even those over twenty were told.

And those of Ma-nas`-seh’s tribe were numbered too

To be thirty-two thousand, two hundred.

By their generations, the Ben`-ja-min few

By their father’s house, had ev’ry hundred.

And after their families, ancestors all,

Were accounted by names & each age,

To be at least twenty years old when on call,

And be able to war any stage.

The Ben`-ja-min tribe was then numbered to be

    Thirty-five thousand top abled men.

The children of Dan, by their line-ancestry,

Were accorded in full once again.

From twenty years on, being able to fight

    In a war, they were numbered to go;

And those were numbered of Dan, a foresight,

    Sixty-two thousand, sev’n hundred, so

Of Ash`-er, by their generations, no more,

    By their families, fathers ago,

According to names, counted those as before,

Twenty years or more, war with a foe.

Of Ash`-er the tribe, were then numbered complete,

    Forty-one thousand, five hundred men.

Of Naph`-ta-li children, throughout fam’ly’s feat,

    Generations by fathers again.

According to numbers of names that were scribed,

From age twenty, & some older too,

Who were able bodied to fight as described

When they went off to war when it’s due.

The number they counted of Naph`-ta-i’s tribe,

Totaled fifty-three thousand, - more since.

    By Mo`-ses’ & Aar`-on’s direction ascribe,

Numbered these for each Is`-ra-el’s prince.

Each prince of the twelve, were of one for each clan,

For the house of his father & more.

So were all of Is`-ra-el’s men who began

All the numbering men fit for war.

As others, each man twenty years old or more,

Who is able to go off to war,

Were six hundred three thousand, five hundred, for

The priests (Le`-vites), not counted, foreswore.

For God spoke to Mo`-ses concerning their count,

"You’ll not number the Le`-vites, nor take

The sum of them mixed with the Is`-ra-el count,

That the number of kinfolk would make.

"Instead, you’ll appoint select Le`-vites to guard

O’er the Tabernacle of the Law,

And over the vessels & things to regard

Of it, & carry them without flaw.

    "They’ll minister unto it, vessels & all;

They’ll encamp around it all the time.

And when it’s set forward, & priests are on call,

They, (the Le`-vites), will take it down, prime.

"And when the Lord’s Tabernacle is pitched dry,

It’s the Le`-vites who’ll set it up straight.

While this is set up, & a stranger comes nigh,

He’ll be put unto death as his fate.

"The children of Is`-ra-el will pitch their tents,

And display his own standard in camp.

Throughout the whole host, ev’ry man who repents

[Will stand guard o’er the strangers & tramps].

"The Le`-vites will pitch round about the Lord’s Tent

    Housing, guarding the Tabernacle,

    Of all testimony, & show its con`tent;

There will not show a wrath’s evil Hell!

"The whole congregation of Is`-ra-el’s kin,

And the Le`-vites will keep charge of this.

The children of Is`-ra-el obeyed within,

All the Lord ordered Mo`-ses this bliss."

    Chapter II.

The Lord spoke to Mo`-ses& Aar`-on to know

Ev-ry man of the Is`-ra-el clan.

"He’ll pitch his own standard assigned & to show

The great ensigns their fathers gave man.

"Far off from the Tabernacle will they pitch

Of the whole congregation to see.

And on the east side with their banners fine stitch,

Toward the sun rising over the sea.

"They’ll pitch Ju`-dah’s camp with those ensigns of strength,

Throughout all of their armies of might.

The son of Am-min`-a-dab, (Nah`-shon at length),

Will be captain of Ju`-dah, forthright.

"His host & those numbered with them this amount,

    Totaled seventy-four thousand men,

And six hundred more in the last final count,

And the men who pitched next to them then,

    Were Is`-a-char’s tribe, & Nath-than`-i-el, son

Stemmed from Zu`-ar, the captain of men.

All Is`-a-char’s children, the hosts of those won

Of those numbered thereof, then again.

"They numbered to fifty-four thousand & more,

    Being four hundred, totaling all.

The tribe then of Zeb`-u-lun will not ignore

Son of He`-lon, E-li`-hab by call.

"The captain of Zeb`-u-lun’s children he’ll be,

    And the host that was numbered was great;

‘Twas fifty-sev’n thousand, four hundred to see,

And more counted for Ju`-dah to date.

"In Ju`-dah’s camp numbered the largest of all,

    Eighty-four thousand, six hundred, and,

    Four hundred throughout all their armies on call;

These will surely be set first at hand.

"Upon the south side will the camp standard be

Of the Reu`-ben tribe armies accord.

The captain of them will be strong by degree:

    Son of Sed`-eur, E-li`-sur out-poured.

"His host & their number, were counted to be

    Forty-six thousand, four hundred men.

And those who pitched by him will have amity

With the Sim`-e-on clan once again.

"The captain of Sim`-e-on’s kin then will be

    Young She-lu`-mi-el of Zu-ri-shad`-dai.

His host & those numbered of his family,

Fifty-nine thousand, three hundred Gad’s guys.

"The son of Gad’s captain, E-li`-a-seph, thrifty,

And those who were with him, his host,

Were forty-five thousand, six hundred & fifty,

And the Reu`-ben camp there was the most.

"One hundred, one thousand, four hundred & fifty,

Throughout all their armies for war.

Yet they will set forth in the second rank’s fray,

[With array of their weapons galore].

"The then Tabernacle of their congregation,

Will swell in the camp of Le`-vites.

They set in the midst of the camp of their nation,

And as they encamped by the lights.

Each man in his place, placed his standard for war

On the west of the E`-phra-im camp.

According to armies, the captains before

Will be E`-phra-im sons, by their lamp.

    "E-lish`-a-ma, son of Am-mi`-had, & host,

Who had forty-five thousand by count,

And by him will be the Ma-nas`-seh foremost,

    And Ga-ma`-li-el, son paramount.

"His host & those numbered of them of the men,

    Counted thirty-two thousand, two hundred.

The Ben`-ja min tribe, & his captain again

    Will be Ab`-i-don of Gid-e-o`-ded.

"His host & those numbered with them of the men.

    Counted thirty-five thousand, four hundred.

All numbered of E`-phra-im, totaled again,

Was a hundred, eight thousand, one hundred.

"Their armies will go forth to form the third rank.

… And the standard Dan will be shown on.

The north side, by armies, their captains,(each flank),

    Will be tall A-hi-e`-zer thereon.

"The count of his host with these numbered of them,

Came to sixty-two thousand, sev’n hundred.

And those who encamp by him, & will contemn,

Will be Ash`-er’s tribe, captains of hundreds.

"That same captain, Pa`-gi-el of Oc`-ran’s men,

And his host, & those numbered before,

Were forty-one thousand & five hundred men.

    … Then the Naph`-ta-li tribe I’ll restore.

"The captain of Naph`-ta-li’s children will be

Called A-hi`-a of E`-nan, while then,

His host & those numbered with them by decree,

    Fifty-three thousand, four hundred men.

"The total amount they had numbered of Dan,

In his camp surpassed any before.

One hundred & fifty-sev’n thousand, his clan,

And were added some six hundred more.

"By companies, they will set forward the last,

With their banners & standards displayed.

These numbers were those of all Is`-ra-el, vast,

By their father’s house, quite undismayed.

"All those who were numbered of all camps throughout

All their hosts to include only men,

Were six hundred, three thousand, warriors devout,

And five hundred & fifty more men.

"The Le`-vites, (the priests), were not numbered among

Any count of the Is`-ra-el kin.

They heard & obeyed the Lord’s orders high-strung,

[For the totals of numbers within.]

"The children of Is`-ra-el obeyed the Lord

Of commandments of Mo`-ses they can.

They pitched by their standards, & set in accord,

All their fam’lies of their father’s clan."

    Chapter III.

The following also are all generations,

That stemmed from the lineage God made,

    From Aar`-on & Mo`-ses of Is`-ra-el nations,

For men to do God’s will with aid.

The names are the first-born called Na`-dab, & then

    Came A-bi`-hu, & Ith`-a-mar, and

E-le-a`-zar, by Aar`-on, the priest of all men,

Who were consecrated through the land.

This followed them being anointed to be

To the priest’s offices, - minister.

    A-bi`-hu & Na`-dab succumbed without plea,

‘For the Lord, & became sinister.

They offered strange fire to the Lord in the wilds

Of Mount Si`-nai, - they sired not a child,

    So Ith`-a mar & E-le-a`-zar, beguiled,

Functioned in the priest’s place, - reconciled.

They did this in sight of their father, old Aar`-on,

So God spoke to Mo`-ses & said,

"Bring Le`-vi the tribe near to show them here on,

    Before Aar`-on, to function instead.

"They will keep in charge of the whole congregation,

    Before the entire Tabernacle,

Of their congregation to service full ration,

    With instruments of Tabernacle.

"They’ll keep all the furnishings of the whole place,

And the charge of all Is`-ra-el’s kin,

To service the Church & its people, their race,

    And the Tabernacle there within.

    "You’ll give to the Le`-vites, (to Aar`-on & sons),

They are given entirely to him,

Of Is`-ra-el’s children, (of Is`-ra-el’s sons),

… You’ll appoint Aar`-on’s sons to renew him.

    "They’ll service & wait on their priests’ office there;

… And the stranger is then put to death."

The Lord spoke to Mo`-ses, & said, "I declare

I have given the Le`-vites their breath.

"I’ve taken them all from among Ja`-cob’s clan,

(From the children of Is`-ra-el now),

Instead of the first-born that bears forth a man,

Therefore Le`-vites are Mine, - this I vow.

"Because all the first-born are Mine, from the day

That I smote all the first-born, abhorred.

    I hallowed to Me all the first-born My Way;

Man & beast, they’ll be Mine! – I’m the Lord."

The Lord spoke to Mo`-ses on Mount Si`-nai’s wilds,

Saying, "Number the Le`-vites in full,

By families, - every male from a child

A month old, & on up, - capable."

So Mo`-ses, according to Word of the Lord,

Numbered all of them there to comply.

    Me-ra`-ri & Ko`-hath, & Ger`-shon accord

Were the names of the sons of Le`-vi.

Now these are the names of the sons of Ger`-shon,

    By their families, Lib`-ni, & Shim`-e-el.

The four sons of Ko`-hath, by fam‘lies, He`-bron,

    Am`-ran, Iz`-e-thar, & Uz`-zi-el.

The sons of Me-ra`-ri, by their families,

    Mah`-li, Mu`-shi of Le`-vi’s own tribe.

    According to ancestry, & families

Of the house of their fathers, per scribe.

Of Ger`-shon, was family stemmed from Lib`-nites,

    And the fam’ly of Shim`-ites & Ger`-shon-ites.

The males numbered from them whom they found in lights,

Were a month old, & older for fights.

The families stemming from Ko`-hath & sons,

Shall pitch all of their tents on the side

Just south of the Tabernacle. – They’ve begun

With the chief of the father’s house guide.

Those families of the just Ko`-hath-ite clan,

    Was E-liz`-a-phan, son of Uz-zi`-el.

Their charge will be carrying, by ev’ry man,

The Lord’s Ark, & the flat sentinel.

They also will care for the candlesticks, and

All the altars & vessels inside

The sanctuary where they minister grand,

And the hanging & service applied.

The son E-le-a`-zar of Aar`-on the priest,

Will be chief over all Le`-vite heads.

He’ll also have oversight, greatest to least,

That keeps charge of the Church & high-breds.

    The fam’ly of Mah`-lites, (Me-ra`-ri, the head),

Were the Mu`-shites, & all of
