About this ebook

Once again, in addition to the magnificent book-poem, "the Rhyme of the Gospels", Mr. Benett has continued his expertise herein, by setting the apostle's letters, extant and compiled in the Protestant New Testament, to rhyme. The inspired book-poem is most worthy of the readers praise. It is unique and original poetry.

It is not a text book, nor a fictional novel, but a written verse by verse edification of Christ's Church, to give comfort and assurance to His believers, as does the "

As said in the prophecy, God is the source of all knowledge and life-giving breath. These matters of the fact lead the way to all forces on Earth and all unto death. This author has visualized and realized how his life has been blessed with the verse to feel with his zeal just how he could be prized with some wisdom of God’s universe. They recently had a great-grandchild, a boy, as their twenty-fifth one, and somehow, they also just had their first great-great-grandchild. This makes them great-great-grandparents now.

    My Gratitude, Dedication & Credits

    Forward

    This volume was started November 2, 2004 A. D., immediately upon returning home to convalesce after open heart surgery. After a five day stay in the hospital, I relapsed, and was flat-lined. They revived me with electric paddles, and I’m very grateful for the staff’s quick response to my emergency. I’m more than thankful I’m here to praise God and his helpers, the medical staff on all levels.

    Yes, while they were reviving me, I had a vision, but not like the ones I’ve seen on television; my vision was only a solid white cloud, which I was completely engulfed in - the whitest white I’d ever seen. It was very comfortably warm, and I felt wonderful, but I was alone. There were no doctors, nurses, etc., and as I looked, I could not even see myself. I felt no fear, though there was no sound, just silence, but my mind was very conscious, and heavy with thought and wonderment.

    When I awakened, I remembered imagining my Lord Jesus saying, Write My way to live by My apostles words in beauty. This to me was my order to continue versing the New Testament in rhyme, as was done in The Rhyme of the Gospels; to help give credence to the theology already existing and obvious, showing God’s love for the world He created.

    This compilation of books does not include the Revelation of Saint John, the Divine, nor any apocryphal books, because of the stern warning at the very last three verses of the Revelation. This emphatically states that, If any one shall take away from the words of the book of the prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and the things that are written in this book. Even the translations of various Bibles differ greatly. This is an awesome warning.

    May the reader find faith and adventure in traveling with the apostles in their learning and spreading The Lord’s Word of love.

    This work is also narrated on cassette tapes and compact disks, for your listening pleasure and enlightenment.

    Hope?

    H O P E?

    We needn’t hope for salvation now,

    Because it is a fact.

    Just over two thousand years have passed,

    Since Jesus gave this act.

    To hope for something claimed as truth

    Is disbelieving fact;

    So why not believe and accept His gift,

    And show our faith by act?

    Is hope defined as: to expect?

    (Archaic synonym?)

    Or is the future tense implied,

    Inferring antonym?

    To hope for Christ in future tense,

    To me, is disbelief;

    For Jesus came, and suffered, died,

    And gave the world relief.

    He’ll come again – He said He would,

    A promise, Godly fact;

    Again no hope is needed here:

    His Love, His Word – enact.

    A layman, I, no scholar here

    To delve the Spirit’s Word;

    Just walk in ways of Godliness:

    Repent, and love our Lord.*

    Jesus said WHO He is, God’s Son we know.

    He also informed WHAT He is.

    He told us His WAY by which we all should go.

    He said speak the TRUTH that is His.

    Jesus is LIFE & the LIFE we should follow.

    TRUTH we should speak all the time.

    Living in TRUTH is the WAY: - never hollow.

    The WAY, TRUTH & LIFE is sublime.

    The

    Acts of the Apostles

    In Rhyme

    Chapter I

    The treatise I formerly made which you sought,

    O Theo`phi-lus, Chris`tian and friend,

    Were all the things Je`sus did do as He taught,

    ‘Til the day He was raised at the end.

    And soon after that, through His own Holy Spirit,

    He gave the apostles He chose,

    Commandments, - then showed Himself, told who would hear it,

    Infallible proofs that He rose.

    He did this soon after His passion was through,

    And was seen with them forty full days.

    He spoke of the Kingdom of God that He knew,

    And well-worthy He was of their praise.

    And being assembled with them as their fate,

    He commanded that they not depart,

    But stay in Je-ru`sa-lem, patiently wait

    For the promise of God to impart.

    Which, He said, "You have heard from Me, and true;

    John had baptized with water for you;

    But lo! Before many days hence pass from view,

    You’ll be given the Holy Ghost, too."

    So when they had gathered together, they asked,

    "Will You then, Lord, at this time restore,

    The kingdom of Is`ra-el, giving this task?"

    He then answered, enlightening yore:

    "It isn’t for you to know times or the season,

    Which God in His own Power will win you,

    But you will receive of this power and reason,

    When His Holy Spirit comes in you."

    "And you, in Je-ru`sa-lem, My witness be,

    And also Ju-de`a around;

    And into Sa-mar`i-a, witnessing Me

    To the ends of the earth you’ll expound."

    When finished His speaking these things they beheld,

    He was taken up into a cloud,

    And vanished from out of their sight and expelled.

    And while they gazed steadfastly proud,

    Behold there appeared standing by them two men,

    Who were dressed in white robes, and they said,

    "You Gal`le-an men, why are you looking up,

    When to Heaven, He goes on ahead.

    This Jesus, Whom you beheld rising from view

    Into Heaven, will come the same way.

    As you have observed, and return unto you,

    In a cloud down from Heaven some day."

    They then to Je-ru`sa`lem ventured, returned

    From the Mountain called Ol`iv-et near,

    But only a Sabbath day’s journey sojourned;

    When they entered, the mission was clear.

    They went up to where they were staying while there,

    In a large upper room, housing all:

    Bar-tho`lo-mew, Mat`thew, devoted on prayer,

    With Pe`ter and Tho`mas (recall);

    And Phi`lip and John with Al-phae`us’ son James;

    The Zea`lot named Si`mon there too,

    With Ju`das, the son of the elder called James,

    To plan for the future, ensue.

    All these were with one accord, praying as one,

    Sincerely devoted in rathe,

    With Ma`ry, the mother of Je`sus, God’s Son,

    His brethren and women of faith.

    In those days, disciples of Lord Je`sus came

    To discuss the events that exist.

    One hundred and twenty were numbered by name. -

    Simon Pe`ter stood up in their midst.

    Brethren, he said, "all the scripture’s fulfilled

    Which the Spirit of God spoke before,

    (Through Da`vid), of Ju`das, who guided and willed

    They arrest Je`sus, causing a roar.

    For he was among us, and numbered as one

    Who was given his share to ensue:

    Allotted as he who had also begun

    A full part in this ministry too.

    "Now this man had purchased a field with the coins

    He obtained as reward from this sin.

    And falling headlong he burst out at his loins,

    With his bowels gushed out from within.

    It came to be known to inhabitants there

    In Je-ru`sa-lem, the Field of Blood.

    ‘Twas called in their language, the proper tongue, (rare),

    A-cel`dam-a, (said with a thud).

    "For so it is written in our Book of Psalms,

    ‘Let his habitation, forsaken;

    And let there be no one to live in its calm’;

    And, ‘His office another has taken.’

    So one of the men who accompanied us,

    And Lord Je`sus all during the time,

    That He ventured in and went out among us,

    From the time of John’s baptism, prime;

    Until the day when he was taken from us -

    One of these men, a witness became

    To all things, including resurrection, with us,

    With full knowledge and blame to his shame."

    Appointed they two, to come forward for prayer:

    One Jo`seph, but called Bar`sa-bas,

    Was hence surnamed Jus`tus by those in his care.

    The second was one named Mat-thi`as.

    They all prayed and said, "Lord, You know the true heart

    Of all men, show to us, whom You chose,

    To take the apostleship, ministry part

    Left when Ju`das went on to his woes."

    They then cast forth lots for deciding which one

    Of Mat-thi`as or Jus`tus, - amen;

    Their lots fell and showed that Mat-thi`as had won,

    And was now an apostle right then.

    Chapter II

    When finally the day of the Pentecost came;

    Together they came in one place.

    And suddenly sound came from Heaven, the same

    As a rush of a wind’s mighty pace.

    It filled all the house where they gathered and sat.

    There appeared to them tongues as of fire,

    Distributed, resting on each one thereat,

    And the Spirit most Holy, acquire.

    They then began talking in tongues they knew not,

    As the Spirit to them His own speaking begot.

    Now there in Je-ru`sa-lem dwelt devout Jews,

    From every nation on earth.

    At this sound, the multitudes all came in view,

    So bewildered they were in their mirth.

    Because each one heard the men speaking aloud,

    In his own native language, amazed,

    They wondered and asked, "Are not these in the crowd

    Ga-li-le`ans who spoke as they praised?

    How is it that each of us hears them so clear,

    Speaking in his own language from home?

    The Par`thi-ans, Medes, and the E`la-mites near

    Where the Me`so-po-ta`mi-ans roam;

    Jude`a and Pon`tus, Cap-pa-do`cia and A`sia,

    Pam-phyl`ia and Phryg`ia and those,

    From E`gypt and parts of the country of Lib`ya,

    Cy-re`ne, and stranger inflows:

    From Rome, both the Jews and the proselytes came,

    And Cre`tans, A-ra`bi-ans too,

    We hear them all telling in our tongues by name,

    The great works of God they foreknew."

    As all were amazed and perplexed at this sign,

    They began, saying one to another,

    Just what does this mean? Are they filled with new wine?

    Exclaimed they who were mocking the other.

    But Pe`ter, then with the eleven, stood up

    And addressed them with voice lifted clear,

    Said, "Men of Ju-de`a and all who dwell here

    In Je-ru`sa-lem, know this and hear:

    For these men are not drunk as you have supposed,

    As it’s only the third hour of day;

    But this is what Jo`el the prophet disclosed. -

    Hear and hearken to this, which we say:

    ‘And in the last days God declares it shall be

    That I pour out My Spirit on all;

    Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, plea,

    And your young men see visions enthrall.

    Your old men shall dream of the forthcoming time,

    My servants, both female and male,

    Shall also receive of My Spirit sublime;

    They’ll prophesy - truth will prevail.

    "’And I will show wonders in Heaven above,

    And the signs of the earth far below;

    And blood, fire, and smoke vapors darken thereof

    The sun’s rays, and the moon lose its glow:

    The moon into blood will appear to have turned,

    And the sun made to darkness so black.

    And all will be done ‘fore the Lord be returned -

    That manifest great Day He’s back!

    ‘And so it shall be that whoever shall call

    On the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

    [For when all this happens before the great fall,

    My name above all shall be craved.]

    "You Is`rae-lite men, hear these words that I say:

    A man God approved among you,

    Was Je`sus of Naz`ar-eth tested by way,

    Of wonders and signs in your view.

    "This Je`sus, according to definite plan,

    Of God and His foreknowledge knew it,

    Delivered to you, and you murdered the Man,

    By using the Gen`tiles to do it.

    But God raised Him up, and in doing this feat,

    The death pangs and pains are then freed.

    Because it’s impossible, and incomplete,

    For Him to be held by this deed.

    For Da`vid, concerning Him, says this of Him:

    ‘I saw the Lord always near me.

    He is at my right hand that I not be grim;

    My heart then was gladdened with glee.

    My tongue did rejoice, and my flesh dwells in hope;

    You’ll never to hell send my soul,

    Nor let a corruption Your Holy One scope.

    [Deliverance, full and console.]

    Though You have made known to me Your ways of essence,

    [The Truth of Your Way unto Life.]

    You shall make me joyful and glad with Your presence,’

    [And tender me love that is rife.]

    "I say to you freely, my brethren and men,

    Of the patriarch Da`vid of old;

    He died and was buried as others again,

    And his tomb is still with us and cold.

    Then therefore, and knowing His prophet was shown

    And that God had sworn to him a vow,

    He’d set a descendent of his on His throne;

    That He’d raise up His Christ and endow."

    "He spoke that which He did foresee about Christ,

    And His resurrection he knew.

    To Ha`des His Soul was not left nor enticed,

    His flesh, not corrupted, was true.

    This Je`sus, God raised up, to us was received,

    And therefore exalted by God,

    By being His right hand and having received

    Of the Father, the Spirit of God."

    He has poured out this which you see in remiss;

    For Da`vid did not ascend up

    To the heavens, but he himself says about this,

    His relationship filling his ‘cup’:

    "The Lord said to MY Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand

    ‘Till I make your foes your footstool.’

    Let all of the nation of Israel grand

    Know God made Jesus Lord, - Christ to rule."

    When this they had heard, they were hurt and unmasked,

    Because they had crucified Him.

    To Pe`ter and all the apostles, they asked,

    "What shall we do, Brethren? We’re dim.

    Repent, Pe`ter said, "and be baptized within,

    In the name of one Jesus, the Christ;

    Do this for remission, forgiveness of sin;

    Get the Spirit of God, be sufficed.

    To you and your children and others with vim,

    Is this promise of God surely made;

    To everyone whom the Lord God calls to Him,

    Regardless, so be not afraid."

    He testified also with warm words that flow,

    Exhorting them saying in wise,

    Preserve yourselves from this generation of woe.

    With this he meant not to chastise.

    So those who received what he said, and baptized,

    Were there about three thousand souls,

    Who practiced the doctrine Apostles advised,

    To the breaking of bread and prayer goals.

    Then awe came upon every one of the men;

    Apostles did wonders and signs.

    And all who believed were together as then

    They had all things in common, divine.

    They sold their possessions and goods in the Word,

    And gave them to any in need.

    Continued they daily, one body accord,

    Breaking bread as but part of their Creed.

    Attending the temple and homes of the people,

    With glad hearts, ate food and forgave,

    They praised God in favor with all of the people;

    The Lord added daily those saved.

    Chapter III

    Now Pe`ter and John at the hour of prayer,

    Went into the temple to pray.

    The ninth hour it was, and they saw a man there

    Who’d been lame from his birth to this day.

    Each day he was carried and laid at the gate

    Of the temple call Beautiful, gem,

    To ask of those entering, alms for his fate.

    Seeing Pe`ter and John, he asked them.

    As they were about to go into the place,

    Pe`ter fastened his eyes on the man.

    With John, he directed his gaze at his face

    And said, Look at us. Then he began:

    He fixed his attention on Pe`ter and John,

    And expected to get something fine.

    But Peter said, "Silver and gold I have none,

    But I’ll give you what I have, - a sign."

    He took the man’s right hand, then raised him erect,

    And said, "Walk, in the Name of the Lord,

    The Christ, Who is Je`sus of Naz`ar-eth sect;" -

    His ankles and feet were restored.

    He then entered into the temple with them,

    Praising God with them, leaping for joy.

    The people there saw him, now walking with them,

    Praising God, exaltations employ.

    The people had recognized him as the one

    Asking alms at the Beautiful Gate;

    And they in the temple were awed what was done

    To the man, and amazed at his fate.

    And while the lame man clung to Pe`ter and John,

    All the people together ran out,

    To Sol`o-mon’s porch, and astounded whereon

    Pe`ter saw it, addressed those devout:

    "Why wonder at this, men of Israel, why

    Do you marvel, and why do you stare?

    As though by our own power, piety, - fie,

    We made the man walk, we declare:

    "The God of our fathers, of Ab`ra-ham, I`saac,

    Of Ja`cob and his servant, Christ,

    Was Je`sus Whom you crucified and denied

    In the presence of Pi`late, enticed.

    "Though Pi`late decided to let Je`sus be,

    You denied the most Holy and rife.

    You asked for a murderer to be set free,

    And instead, killed the Author of Life.

    "This Prince of all life God has raised from the dead;

    To this we are witnesses true.

    And HIS Name, through faith in His Name we have said,

    Has made this man strong and anew.

    "This man whom you see and have known him to be,

    Has faith which is through Je`sus, true.

    He’s given the man perfect health as you see,

    In the presence of all that we view.

    "And now brethren, I know you acted in haste

    As in ignorance, your rulers did,

    But what God foretold from the prophets well graced,

    That His Christ should fulfill, not forbid.

    "Repent therefore, turn again, sins blotted out,

    That times of refreshing may come.

    That God being present, and He without doubt

    Send you Je`sus, the Christ, Heaven from,

    Before, which was preached to you, must be received

    Into Heaven until it’s foretold,

    Establishing all that God spoke and believed

    By the mouth of His Prophets of old."

    "Said Mo`ses, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you

    From your brethren, a Prophet of Mine.

    You SHALL listen TO Him; what HE says is true,

    And whatever He tells you, Divine.

    It SHALL be and COME to pass, noted for all,

    That every soul hence be born,

    That doesn’t hear AND listen TO Him will fall -

    Be destroyed from the people, I warn.’

    "Yes, all of the Prophets from Sam`u-el on,

    Proclaimed and foretold of these days.

    You ARE of the sons of the Prophets thereon,

    And the covenant God gave in praise:

    He made with your fathers, to Abraham said,

    ‘And IN your prosperity, be

    The kindred and families blest, not misled

    And your seed o’er the earth I decree.’

    "To you, God chose first, sending Je`sus His Son,

    Having raised up His servant to bless,

    In turning away, every one of you, from

    Your iniquities, gross wickedness."

    Chapter IV

    The chief of the temple, the Sad`du-cees, priests,

    Then came upon them, as they spoke.

    Annoyed because all of their teachings increased,

    Proclaiming in Je`sus, provoke:

    Resurrecting the dead, resurrection from sorrow,

    For this, they arrested them both.

    They held them in custody, until the morrow,

    For evening was now at full growth.

    Now many of those who had heard this believed;

    Believed in this Word of the Lord.

    The number of men who received and believed,

    Were five thousand souls, then restored.

    And then on the morrow, their rulers and scribes,

    Together with elders, they came

    To speak in Jerusalem, all which ascribes,

    To all of the family of fame:

    The high-priestly household of Ca`i-phas, John,

    Alexander, with An`nas, high priest.

    When these men had set them to query them on

    In their midst, they inquired and not least:

    WHAT name or what power grants YOU to do this?

    Then Pe`ter to answer this call,

    With God’s Holy Spirit inside him, said this,

    "You rulers and elders of all,

    If we are examined today of a deed,

    Concerning good done to a man

    Of impotence, crippled, and how he had need

    Of healing – by what means or plan,

    Let all of the people of Is`ra-el know,

    And all of you also, the Name

    Of Je`sus, of Naz`ar-eth, Christ here below

    Whom you crucified, raised Him to fame."

    "God raised Him from death, and in His name this man

    Is now standing before you, now cured.

    You builders rejected this Stone that began

    As the head of the corner secured.

    There IS no salvation in any one else.

    In no other name under heaven

    Is salvation given, though no infidels

    Among men of the faithful, not leaven."

    When they saw the boldness of Pe`ter and John,

    And perceived they were ignorant men,

    Illiterate, common, unschooled and anon,

    They wondered, and recognized then,

    They had been with Jesus, but seeing the man

    Who’d been healed standing next to them there,

    They couldn’t oppose them, remained silent then,

    And conferred how to treat this affair.

    They did this when they had commanded the men,

    Go aside of the council alone.

    What all shall we do with these men? they contend,

    "For a notable sign has been shone, –

    Performed through these men and made manifest, claimed

    By Je-ru`sa-lem – all testify it.

    In order to stop spreading further this Name,

    Among people, though we can’t deny it,

    Let’s warn them to not speak at all in His name

    Nor to teach all what Je`sus had done."

    They called them and charged them to never proclaim

    Nor to teach in the Name of this One.

    But Pe`ter and John answered, "Whether it’s right

    In the sight of our God to hear you,

    Than listen to Him, you must judge in His sight.

    We must speak what we’ve heard and view."

    And when they had warned them and threatened them woe,

    Finding no way to punish, they freed.

    Because of the people, they let the men go,

    For all men praised God for this deed.

    The lame man on whom this great healing occurred

    And performed by both Pe`ter and John,

    Was older than forty years; now reassured

    That his cure was complete, illness gone.

    When they were released, they went out to their friends

    And reported all that which took place.

    They told them what elders and chief priests contend,

    Said why they were then freed from disgrace.

    And when they had heard it, they lifted their voices

    Together to God and said this,

    "Lord God, Who is Sovereign, created by choices,

    The earth and the heavens, Your bliss,

    Who said by the mouth of King Da`vid, our father,

    By Your Holy Spirit to all,

    ‘Why DID all the Gen`tiles rage on, and forefathers

    Imagine vain things, - criminal?’

    "The rulers were gathered together in force.

    The kings of the earth in array,

    Were set against God and against His Anointed,

    Against the Lord Je`sus that day.

    For truly in this city gathered together

    Were those against Je`sus, Your Son,

    Your Holy One, servant, anointed by You;

    Predestined, Your plan had begun.

    "Both Her`od and Pi`late with the Gen`tiles therein,

    And peoples of Is`ra-el there,

    Were planned by Your hand to take place and begin

    The events, - the forthcoming affair."

    ‘And now, Lord, consider, look on their demands,

    And grant to Your servants to speak,

    Your Word with all boldness, while You stretch Your hand

    Forth to heal and do wonders unique,

    Performing great signs through the Name of Your Son,

    Holy Jesus, Your servant, Your child.

    And when they had prayed, the whole place had begun,

    When together, was shaken, - not mild.

    They then, filled with God’s Holy Spirit conceived,

    And spoke boldly the Word they received.

    The crowd of the people who heard and received

    That were one heart and one soul, - they believed.

    And no one said anything, which he possessed

    Was his own, but gave all things to share.

    All things were in common to those who expressed

    Their desire, and intentions to care.

    With might the apostles gave testimony

    To the Lord’s resurrection and more.

    Great grace was upon them all, all were fulfilled

    With the power of God to restore.

    Among them was no one who lacked anything

    For as owners of houses or lands,

    Gave all of the proceeds from selling all things

    To apostles and put in their hands.

    To each one who had any need were things given,

    And such distribution had faired,

    That Jo`seph, who by the apostles, named Bar`na-bas,

    (Son of encouragement) - cared.

    As a Le`vite, He heard and received of the Word,

    When a native of Cy`prus, near Crete.

    A field that belonged to him was sold for cash;

    And was laid at the apostles feet.

    Chapter V

    A man named An-an-i`as and his wife, Sap-phi`ra sold,

    A worthy piece of property, and with his wife so bold,

    He brought but part of it to them, retained some proceeds, and

    He laid it at apostles’ feet, then given reprimand:

    Said Peter, "An-an-i`as, why has Sa`tan filled your heart

    To lie unto the Holy Ghost and give us but a part?

    While it remained with you unsold, did it remain yours, still?

    And after it was sold, could you dispose of it at will?

    How is it that you have
