FOREWORD
After being married for 35 years, I must admit that my first thought was that this book is really for those that aren’t married and who are considering making the important life decision to marry. After reading this book, I realized that it is not only for people that are considering marriage but can also be used as a helpful tool for those that are pastors with the need or desire to counsel others before they enter the marriage agreement. I hope this will be the first of a short book series that progresses deeper and deeper into the union of marriage.
Establishing friendships before marriage is most important because sometimes it can be the only thing that holds the relationship together when sickness and financial challenges arise. Love is strong within true friendships and is able to withstand all kinds of adversity, and this is why friendships can last a lifetime; but without its presence within a marriage, the marriage is destined to fail. C.E. Brown captures this as a biblical truth as he shows God’s recognition that it is not good for man to be alone. While all the other areas are valuable and needed, this is the foundation for every part of the relationship.
While the relationship focus of a friendship is vital to a marriage, I was pleasantly surprised to read what some authors fail to deal with and that is that each person has to maintain his or her own self! Independence within a marriage is vital to the couple as individuals in order
