    Part I

Cameron had an early fascination for obscure and some would say, macabre objects. He remembered coming upon a nearly complete skeleton of an owl during one of his childhood forest explorations. Fascinated, he spent hours inspecting it. He crouched on the soft ground, examined the bones, their structure, how they tied together and worked to shape what used to be a living, flying creature. He even broke apart a few bones to see what was inside; after remembering from an early science class, that bird bones were supposedly hollow to facilitate flying. Shadows grew long overhead, and a slight chill brought Cameron back to reality, it was starting to get late, and he had to get home or he would get grounded. Scooping up the skull, held it close as he raced home. It was a beautiful oddity to Cameron. The huge, nearly perfect circles for eyes, and the sharp beak piqued his curiosity and he wanted to explore it at his leisure.

Still running when he got home, he burst through the front door, and found his mother reading a book on the couch. As she looked up to see what had her son so excited, she found an owl skull shoved into her face. The cavernous sockets stared blankly at her, as a whiff of musty dirt, and decay hit her nose. Cameron's mom dropped her book, recoiled in horror and let out a quick shriek of fear and repulsion.

Look what I found isn't it cool? Cameron said in a rush.

Get that horrid, diseased thing out of here! His mom clearly did not share
