Reviews for French Short Stories for Beginners

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This kind of text is exactly the right way to come back into a language hiding in the filing cabinets of your brain. I'm slowly working my way through the stories by reading them aloud, so this is perhaps a premature review, but I appreciate being provided a copy through Member Giveaways, and wanted to acknowledge that. The authors/editors are right: there is a dearth of high interest / low vocabulary reading material for adult language learners. More of this sort of thing!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I took french years ago in high school... i'm now in my 30s. this was a great way to freshen up on french! i was amazed how much i remembered, and that i was able to read these stories!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was fun and easy I didn't think it would be so easy but the way it's done helps a lot to. If I get any more learning languages it's got to be by Lingo Mastery
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Nice simple stories for beginners in french. Each story opens with an explanation in english. Then the real story begins. After that you find a summary in french and a summary in english. Then a frenc-english vocabulary of that story and in the end a few multiple choice questions. Most of the stories are nice. The children stories (for instance 'Scapegoat') were less to my liking. The language of the children in it is too adult I think. But: When you want to study french and want to read easy stories: this is the book for you.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Just what I needed to refresh my A level French after 20 years gathering rust! ‘French Short Stories for Beginners’ covers aspects of grammar and vocabulary you will need for everyday conversations and situations in a series of simple tales. Each story is followed by a summary in French and English, a vocabulary and then questions about the story. I read them aloud, re-read the vocabulary several times to memorise new words, answered the questions and then re-read the story. This worked well for me.Don’t expect great fiction, but do expect to find it easier than you thought to recall vocabulary and grammar you learned at school. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to pick up new words through these stories and to feel confident speaking French with natives.
