    Harris Castle, Scotland, 1617

    Disappointment coursed through Amelia MacGregor when she glanced at the closed door and realized that her father wasn't coming. Though they'd never been close, she'd expected him to at least welcome her home.

    She sighed as she ran a hand through her hair. He probably thought that she had failed him by not giving him a grandson.

    And now that her husband was dead, she never would.

    Guilt nagged at her conscience for not trying to seduce her husband, but at the time, she had just been grateful he couldn't do anything. Though he was kind and honorable, the thought of being intimate with a man old enough to be her grandfather had had her stomach churning.
