About this ebook
**A Fun, Standalone Highlander Time Travel Romance SHORT STORY**
Gwen has hit bottom. She is beyond “down on her luck” after splitting from her boyfriend (who, of course was a cheating bastard) and thinks things can't possibly get any worse when, broke and bereft, she is forced to move into a crumbling basement apartment. She had given up everything to make things with her boyfriend work and he only threw it all back in her face. Now, out in the world alone and on her first night in her new place she comes across something that will change her life forever. There, beneath the floorboards she finds what at first just looks like some junk left behind by the last sloppy tenants. But soon she will find it is hardly junk. The ancient sword she has found will lead her into an unimaginable adventure, turning her life more upside down than she could have ever imagined.
By some miraculous means far beyond her comprehension, she is transported back to ancient Scotland, where she meets the handsome Andrew Urquhart, a man determined to win back his people's lands and lead his clan to the victory they have so long deserved. What Gwen doesn't know is that her life has far more reach and significance in this long ago past than she would have ever thought possible. She is actually an integral part of his plan. But now that she is there, an in the face of the intense passions that have built between her and this almost mythical man, will she ever be able to return to her old world? Or is this strange place actually where she was always meant to be?

Gwen lifted the last box with a sigh and made her way out the front door. She was glad that Chris wasn’t there to see her leave. He had done enough damage already. She made her way down the steps of their building and to the car parked out front. She had borrowed it from her colleague just to make sure she could get all of her things out in time before Chris came home with his new girlfriend. She never thought he would do this to her, but how wrong she had been.
The only reason she had moved to Washington was for him, and now, after almost two years of living together, and no warning whatsoever, Chris had come home one evening and laid all of his cards on the table. He told her everything out of guilt, and if she had in any way saw it coming, maybe she would have been able to forgive him. But the facts were plain and simple: Chris had gotten bored, and instead of trying to work through his problems with her, he had gone and cheated.
Gwen had never been cheated on before. She was the girl that men would kill to be with. Not only was she completely stunning with long, ruby red hair, pale skin and enchanting green eyes, she was also intelligent, self-sufficient and confident. What had made Chris treat her so badly? And why had she been so clueless to the fact he wasn’t just screwing someone else, he was actually falling in love with them, too?
She heaved the box into the trunk and slammed it shut. She looked back up to the building she had called home for two years. The place she had molded into, just for him, because he didn’t see the point of them starting again in a new house when she came to town. After all she had done for him, after all she had given up, he had gone and thrown it all away. And now it was her who was going to have to start all over again.
As she climbed behind the wheel and closed the driver’s side door, she felt the tears welling up behind her eyes and she knew she wasn’t going to be able to keep them in any longer. She had been so strong. Even as she had to sit in front of Chris and listen to him recount the sordid details of exactly how and when he had lied to her over the previous six months, she had managed to hold it together. Even when he told her that he was in love with the other woman and that they were going to be together, she managed not to break under the strain of her emotions. And when she heard that Chris intended to move this woman into their apartment as soon as possible, she hadn’t lost control and called him every name under the sun as she should have and wanted to. She had remained stoical and had simply arranged for a moving company to come and help her with the very few bits of large furniture she owned and then she moved out. She wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of being upset. She wasn’t going to break. She was better than that.
But after all of her strength, she knew there was no turning back now and it was beginning to overwhelm her. She gripped onto the steering wheel with both hands and rested her head on the warm leather. Her eyes stung as she blinked the tears away and breathed deeply.
Don’t do this,
she coached herself. You’re so much better than him. Don’t cry now.
And even though she knew she was right, the tears came anyway. Her shoulders shook under the weight of her grief and after she finally managed to bite back the pain, she started the engine and got the hell out of there.
Fuck you, Chris!
she shouted as she pulled out of the street. That’s the last bit of sadness you’ll get from me!
And she meant it. Even though she hadn’t planned for any of this to happen, and deep down, she really didn’t want it, she was determined to make the best out of a bad situation. She was going
