    A PERSONAL WORD

    To come into the land God is calling us to, we know deep down it is going to take a level of strength and a depth of trust we have not known before. We wonder if we will be strong enough for what lies ahead. Most of us have had the experience of setting out on some kind of journey—to get physically stronger, to keep a New Year’s resolution, to grow or change in some area of our lives—only to find out quickly the challenge was going to be more difficult and more demanding than we anticipated.

    Anyone who knows me knows I am competitive. Part of the fun of playing is playing to win, and I am willing to push myself as hard as I have to if I believe victory is on the line. But just like anything else, this competitive drive has its potential pitfalls. A few years ago I felt as if I was getting a little out of shape and knew I needed a new fitness routine, so I signed up for a class called Bootcamp. The name says it all. It was an hour of nonstop intensive cardio, made up of a seemingly unending onslaught of bear crawls, floor sweepers, mountain climbers, push-ups, sit-ups, squat jumps, and anything else my instructor (a.k.a. the drill sergeant) could dream
