Introduction
This book was written to bring awareness and a realisation that for the human race to continue evolving and growing, there has to be a change in how we think. We have been using the same thinking patterns that were brought into our being some eight hundred years ago, with its ideas that to survive the ever-expanding world, we needed direction from religion, royalty, and the leaders of the day.
As mentioned, that was eight hundred years ago, and yet with the issues we are facing today, we still look to these institutions for help and assistance for the answers we need to progress. The problem is that these old thinking patterns are becoming archaic and out of date. This year, 2020, due to the pandemic, has left many people confused, anxious, and fearful about the future. Although the old ways of thinking have served us well so far, it seems that it is now out of date and, frankly, not up to the job.
Many people are now questioning these old leadership styles and religions, and as attendance numbers in churches are receding. With more and more people questioning the integrity of today’s leaders, then perhaps it is time for that self-awareness of who we are as a collective race of people to be challenged.
These feelings of confusion and anxiousness plus the increasing level of mental health problems seem to stem from people not knowing which way to turn. As some religions and our leaders are also confused, maybe it is time to look at the cause of these issues, which could be around how we think.
The design of this book is to get reader awareness to realise that for us, as a race of people, and us as individuals to progress, we need to stop using the old ways of thinking and bring about a change in our perception of the world around us and our part within it.
The ideas and concepts are taken from a wide-ranging global consciousness shouting out for a change of direction. For many years we have been sailing our human boat in one direction. It is now time to change course.
This book is written in an open-minded way and is not, and nor will be intended to put a blight on any religious or non-religious beliefs. It is designed to make everyone stop and think about the world around them from a different perspective that may lead us, as a human race, onto a new path and a new course that may instruct us to a better understanding of ourselves and the world we live in.
Chapter One
New Pandemic
As some of you already know from reading my other two books, Get Out of Your Way and The Human Whisperer my passion is personal development. I enjoy looking at things from a different angle and write in a somewhat unconventional way. After spending time, like most, in lockdown, I feel compelled to write about a situation that is becoming a pandemic in itself, let alone Covid-19. This situation is also causing confusion and mild panic within business and our personal lives. It is a situation many do not even know exists, yet it lives and thrives, and is also the cause of so much anxiety and pain. It’s not in our textbooks nor were we taught it at school, and yet it is the reason why so many of us are struggling, not just now in these unprecedented times, but probably in the times to come. What am I talking about? It’s an ever-present crisis of thinking.
Are we still working on the thought patterns around how we think that was forged hundreds of years ago that haven’t changed, and the result is? We struggle to find the solutions we desperately need. How can we move ahead with new ideas and solutions we need now, for our business or personal lives, if we are still using the ideas and solutions born hundreds of years ago? How can we find the answers to our modern life if we are still living from concepts, theories, and expectations of a world that has a past? A question to ask yourself if you think I am talking rubbish. How would we find a solution to our modern-day lives when that solution already exists? How do I know it exists? Because we live in a formed solution developed 800 years ago, and today in 2020, we are running in circles trying to break out of that cycle. What do we do now to find answers to our life’s questions?
We look to others, the church, governments and people in authority. We have been doing this for hundreds of years. In other words, we are trying to find something that we are using now. I think the problem is we didn’t know there was a global issue, and lots of people still don’t. So, we look for answers in places we have already examined, which was 800 years ago when the last crisis took over. Did we find the answers then? I am not sure we did. In other words, we are living from thought patterns that formed as early as the 12th century. During this time, significant changes happened in the way we thought about the basics of human life, which went through a radical transformation. Then, like now, people were becoming disillusioned, there was panic people didn’t know who or what to follow.
There was an unsettled global feeling as we found new continents and settled in these countries, probably to the detriment of some indigenous people. It was also a time of discovery and finding our way into a massive global development of different minds and consciousness. We had to have order within this chaos, so we turned to those who ruled over us, our Kings or Queens and the church, and although in modern times most of the old monarchy are more state ambassadors than rulers, we still have that strong belief in a democratic process. That’s okay as we need law and order; we need to elect a group of people to represent us and our interests, home and overseas. I understand that, but what if our evolution leads us down a different path? Does that mean we have to open our consciousness and become self-aware of ourselves as an individual? In other words, we are currently looking for a solution that is already in play. And yet right now, today, what do we do? We find ourselves in a moral dilemma, and we turn to that old way of thinking, which lies with our ancient ancestors. Yes, this thinking style was used to build and invent many fine and amazing things, from art pieces to sculptures and technological advances like computers and satellites, to space stations that orbit our earth. However, when it comes to solving our life’s issues and problems, it seems we haven’t evolved. It is interesting to think we have developed in so many ways, yet in others, we still rely on something formed in the 12th century and probably earlier than that. Is it time for a new radical change to happen? To find a new thinking pattern that allows further growth from a mindset born 800 years ago.
Those thought patterns have remained and are still being used to this day. It is like sailing a boat in the wrong direction, and since the 12th century, we have been sailing that same course. What do we do in our modern world of the 21st century? We say we need to find answers for us to evolve and grow and find a new path within this new world. So, what do we do? We sail that boat harder and faster in the same direction. But hold on, doesn’t that only lead us to move in the same direction, that same heading we have been sailing in for hundreds of years? It is time we realise we have to stop, set a new course and find a new horizon. Over the years, I think we have lost the manual to this metaphorical boat; we don’t know how to stop it and sail it on another course.
That is where our ‘thinking’ is now letting us down as we rely on a style that is outdated and, frankly, not up for the job. What happens today? We rely on technology to help us point the way. That only works if the technology is programmed to follow a new course, but it isn’t, it is programmed using the old styles of thinking which was developed some 750 years before computers came online.
What is the new way of thinking that will allow future generations to grow and prosper in a struggling world? I hear you say the world isn’t struggling. It is, one essential ingredient we need to keep us on track is nature; if we don’t help her, we are doomed, pure and simple. Yet last decade we destroyed over 160 species on this planet, with a staggering 200 added to the endangered list each year, why? Because we are working from the same thinking style that says we don’t need nature to survive, which has been our way for the last few hundred years.
So perhaps the first part of a new thought process is that we lose the human ego that says we don’t need anything else, as we can conquer anything. Is this the first thought that we need to change, as we have become arrogant enough to think nothing else matters apart from our human need to survive? This thinking puts us in danger as the natural resources we need to survive are being eradicated at an alarming rate.
People say, Ah, cannot wait for normality to come back
what is normality? Something else produced 800 years ago, another style of old thinking on how we see the world around us. How do we know the world around us? One where possibilities abound and where we all live together and help each other in harmony. And work for the common good of all? Not just for us humans but also the planet in general. Or perhaps one filled with fear, anxiety, and one where we feel we are not in control, as we have someone and something else telling us how to act, telling us what to do and what not to do. Perhaps one filled with confusion and doubt around money and who is really in control of this asset?
Unless we change our perception about ourselves and our place within society, society will fail, which is already happening in some areas. Again, this can be a positive fix. All we need to do is change how we see the world and that will cause us to change how we react to the world. The new thinking here is around change, giving up that need to control, which says, ‘If I don’t take it, I won’t survive’. Fact is, we have everything we could want, and more than we will ever need. Did you know that each year globally, we waste 1.3 billion tons of food, which equates to one-third of all food produced on this planet? These figures were produced in 2017, can you imagine how much that has increased year on year? So, food is one area where we don’t have to worry.
When we ponder about a new way of thinking, we must be aware and go beyond the style that got us to where we are in the first place. We need to change course, look at the fundamentals and the signs that tell us we are on the right path to change. The basics are, if we think differently, then we act differently, that’s it, simple. How do we change the thought patterns we have been using for hundreds of years? That is the tricky part, but we can strive to do it. The most fundamental change is for us to become personally self-aware. We need to become self-aware as this is the basis of where we, as individuals and as a race of people, are at any given moment and it also allows us to process what is happening in ‘real’ time. It will enable us to start tapping into the more unconscious and even more powerful subconscious parts of us, where a lot of the answers we need are stored. As this deserves a chapter of its own, we may pick this up later.
Let’s get back on track to this new thinking, many believe that our outside world, and remember this is different to each of us, needs very little attention because we can manage any problem. That is an ego-driven thought, as many of us have no idea what is going on in the world around us, we live from that two-dimensional conscious world. One, where our five senses tell us what is going on. And that is a fundamental way to live. Why? Because we live within that illusional world, which is created for us, and to which we become part of at a very early age in our lives. These ideas are born from media, parents, news stories, siblings, teachers, the list is very long. What happens is we start to believe these stories, and why wouldn’t we? These people are older than us and know better. So, we listen to what they have to say, and we start to live by these teachings. These same teachings and ideas about our world which have been used for hundreds of years. These are just human illusions we create to make sense of our world and our part within it. The problem with this is it weakens our authentic selves as we believe in the background noise we are listening to; it numbs us into thinking in that same old familiar way. And it is this same old way, that has to change, we need to become aware that although this thinking style has been in use for a long, long time, it no longer serves us. We need to awaken to the idea that it is outdated and is causing more confusion and ignorance in our world; we need to be aware of how the consequences of not changing are driving us. We need to remove the old medieval view that the church and its religious teachings are what matters. It is causing a lot of the confusion as humans are becoming ever more complex, people are looking for more answers about us, as a human race, our development, and simply, what next?
Although religion had many answers in previous years, people are now viewing themselves as more self-sufficient. This causes more problems as for years we had something to follow, a religion, philosophy perhaps, we had something to help us make sense of the world around us. As we become more self-aware, we look around and get a little confused as there is no-one to ask. We may turn back to religion and government for the answers and clarity we seek, but as this is a new shift in consciousness, I don’t think they have the answers either. Our leaders seem to be more interested in opinion polls and those quick hits, to ensure re-election and political prowess. These leaders’ thoughts are not focusing 100 per cent on humankind’s greater good. They have become shallow and do not allow for the world’s conscious growth.
In my second book, I mentioned that when I was at school back in the 1970s, the class was asked what we needed to do to progress. For some reason, I said we need to look at the environment as I felt it wasn’t being taken seriously. I was told the government was taking it seriously, and that’s why we had policies in place to stop the decline of nature. Now, some forty-five years on, what has changed? Nothing, we are still killing off species as we covered earlier. So where has all that government money been going in the last forty-five years? Well, I know where it hasn’t been going, how? Because we still need armies, battleships, and fighter aircraft; we need to defend ourselves against the next idiot that thinks it is okay to kill for survival. You see we haven’t
