Son, I’m so happy for you, my mom said while standing there, wiping her eyes. Today was the day Promise and I exchanged vows. Over the last two years, it had been a roller coaster with her, but I wouldn’t change it for anything.

Ma, don’t start that crying shit.

She smacked me on the back of the arm.

Boy, don’t be fucking cussing in church.

Arnold and I both started laughing. How was she going to tell me not to curse and she was?

It’s about that time, Promise’s mom said when she poked her head in.

Is she ready? I asked her mom who shook her head laughing.

Yes, she is. Why would you ask that?

Mannn, because I refuse to stand out there for an hour while she runs late, or has to get her makeup done over, due to her crying.

Alright, Ray, her mom said. She got the picture, I guess.

I’ll see you in a few.

She shut the door and left.

    OH MY GOD, HURRICANE.

My mom came running back in a frantic state. My ass was nervous, assuming something happened to my fiancé or kid. I went to run out, but she stopped me.

Move, ma. Let me check on them.

    They’re fine, son.

If they’re fine, why did you come in here yelling?

    Son, she looks beautiful, and—

Yo… I know you didn’t come in here scaring me like that to tell me how nice she looks.

    She shrugged her shoulders.

    I couldn’t help it.

I sucked my teeth and tied my Gianni laced up cap shoes I got from Tom Ford to match my suit that. I started to go with Armani, but too many people rocked his clothes. People rocked Tom Ford too, but only the wealthy ones, and that was me. I slid my cuff links on with my H necklace that Promise brought me for my birthday. I knew she was going to be mad because I had it on with a suit, but she’d get over it. I didn’t tell her how to rock her dress, so she couldn’t tell me how to rock my suit.

Does she look really pretty? I asked her, fixing this dumb ass bow tie that I was most likely going to take off.

She is gorgeous, Hurricane, and I think you’re going to cry when you see her.

I gave her the side eye with my eyebrows lifted.

Okay… watch. A man usually cries when he sees his woman give birth and when he sees his bride walking down the aisle.

No one knew I shed a few tears when she gave birth to my daughter, and they didn’t need to. The night I killed Janice and went back to the hospital to see my girl and daughter, Promise was asleep. I didn’t have much time to bond with Raya when she first came out. I stared at her, and it didn’t dawn on me that I had shed any tears until one hit her on the cheek. My girl had another human being come out of her. That shit was by far amazing and disgusting at the same time.

"Yeah. Yeah… Anyway, let’s get this party started.

The church was filled; and even had people standing on the walls. Don’t ask me why the hell she invited the entire state, but it was whatever she wanted. Arnold and I went to the front of the church and stood next to the reverend. All My Life by Jodeci played, and the doors opened. I assumed Promise would be coming down the aisle, but instead, her parents, my mom, Shaniece and Stella came out. We didn’t have a rehearsal dinner because Promise’s crazy ass said she didn’t need one. I was already aggravated that it was taking this long. Franklin came down with the rings, and some little girl I never saw walked down putting flowers on the ground. The shit is getting on my nerves. I thought weddings were fast, but ours wasn’t. The doors opened back up, and everyone stood to their feet. The song With You by Tony Terry played. I know my mom was in charge of the music, but damn with all the old school songs.

When I’m with you, I hear a song that makes me laugh and smile and sing to you When I’m with you, I feel so free

I feel that love is going to take control of me

When I’m with you, it’s for real, what I feel, when I’m with you.

Promise stepped in the church, and I swear my heart stopped beating for a few seconds. She was more beautiful than a nigga could ever imagine, and I definitely had to catch myself from shedding a few tears. The closer she came to me, I could see the tears leaving her eyes and it was no use in holding mine. I felt Arnold’s hand on my shoulder, and then him look at me.

Hold up! Arnold yelled out, making the entire church stare at him.

What the fuck are you doing? I asked, and Promise stopped walking.

Does anyone have a cell on them?

    Arnold? my mom yelled out.

Let me get your phone real quick.

She handed it to him, and then snapped a few photos of me.

    Okay, thanks.

He gave it back to her and stood next to me like he didn’t interrupt the wedding.

Arnold, why did you do that? Promise shouted from the middle of the aisle.

Woman, you made this man cry coming down the aisle, and a nigga had to get that in a picture.

The entire church busted out laughing, but I didn’t find shit funny.

Yo. TURN THE DAMN MUSIC BACK ON.

The church got quiet again, and Promise made her way to me. I lifted her veil and made love to her mouth until Arnold pulled me back. I didn’t even care about doing the vows anymore. I wanted her as my wife at this very moment. The reverend started the ceremony and gave us a chance to recite our own vows. I was okay with the original ones, but Promise said she wanted to hear how I felt about her from my heart in front of everyone.

Ray, we went through a lot to get here, but it was worth it. I know it sounds crazy, but I would do it again as long as you’re the man it’s with. You tried to push me away when you found yourself falling in love, but I wouldn’t allow you to, and I’m glad I didn’t. I love everything about you, and if you keep your faith in me, I promise we’ll live happily ever after. You are indeed a true beast, but the way you love me has me on a high that I never want to come down from. There’s no other man I want to spend my life with or take his last name. You are my present, future and forever. I love you, Ray Hollis.

She wiped the few tears that left my eyes.

Promise, you are the only woman in this world who can get me to do anything for them… including getting me to marry you.

I could hear people laughing, but it was true.

You always tell me you had to go through a lot to not only be with me, but to keep me. When In fact, I've had to work hard to get you to stay. Most women would've walked away and never looked back a long time ago, but not you. I want you to know that you're never going to wonder how important you are in my life because you'll feel it in my actions, efforts, and hear it in my words. Anything you want that’s in my grasp is yours, and if I can’t get it, I will go through hell and high water to make sure you have it. I need you to know that you and my kids have become my world. I wake up for you, and when I’m sleep, I can’t wait to open my eyes and see you again. You tamed the beast in me, and my respect for you is at an all time high because of it. You made me the happiest man alive when you accepted my proposal and even happier that you actually showed up. I love you so much, Promise Smothers, and I’m going to show you everyday for the rest of our lives.

    She stood there, crying hysterically.

Yo, does anyone have some damn tissue for her, I yelled out. My mom shook her head, and Promise started laughing.

What? I asked and lifted her chin.

Baby, you don’t have to be mean everywhere.

Whatever. You good for us to finish?

She shook her head yes as my mom passed her some tissue.

By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you as husband and wife.

I pulled my wife close and gave her a kiss that wasn’t too erotic. I would save that for later. We lifted our hands and jumped that damn broom thing. Promise said she wanted to do it like the movie. People were stopping us to take pictures and shake our hands, but all I wanted to do was get my wife in the back of the limo. She really held out with the pussy for the entire three weeks, and we all know doing ourselves isn’t the same. After about a half hour, we made our way to the limo and told everyone we would meet them at the reception. I opened the door for Promise, got in with her, and had the driver put the partition up.

Did my husband miss his pussy?

She kneeled down in front of me and had me lift up to pull my boxers and pants down.

    You know I did.

She turned around and had me undo her dress. That’s when I saw the H hanging down her back.

    I love you, baby.

She moaned as she slid down.

    I love you too.

We kissed one another aggressively and had the car rocking. The driver stepped out at the reception hall. We stayed in there for a while, getting reacquainted with one another before joining the party.

People can say what they want about me, but I loved the shit out of my wife. We took each other through some things during the course of our relationship, but we made it. I could care less what others thought of me, but one thing I could say was they better respect my wife, and we won’t have a problem.

Throughout the night, we danced, had cake, received gifts, and a bunch of other shit. Arnold proposed to Stella, and she was so happy that she screamed and had people assume something happened. Tommy came to the wedding with some chick named Trice that ended up being the one who killed Collin and her own father. Yeah, Promise asked if he could come because they were still friends. At first, I didn’t agree, but she’s my wife, and I trusted her. Shaniece was attending some counseling meetings with Stella who had gone through the same thing in the past. Everything worked out for all of us, but no one could’ve told me I would be a married man. However, my wife loved me with all my flaws, but that’s to be expected when you get caught up loving a beast.

    The Reception…

So, you’re about to make an honest man out of Arnold, huh? I asked Stella when she came in the bathroom. It was almost time for Hurricane and I, to leave for our honeymoon. The airport was an hour away and I didn’t want to make any stops on the way; plus, I had plans on being freaky in the limo.

I’m gonna try. She smiled and I could see a tad bit of sadness on her face. I sat next to her on the bench.

What’s the matter? I handed her a tissue to wipe her face.

I don’t know Promise. Arnold, is everything I want in a man, yet, I’m still nervous about Collin. I gave her a crazy look.

Honey, you do know he’s not coming back. She nodded her head yes.

Then I don’t see why you’re upset. She blew her nose and stood to wash her hands. She grabbed a paper towel and sat back down.

I know he won’t be around and that’s not what I’m worried about. She bent down to look under the stalls.

Over the last few days.- She stopped herself from speaking when the door opened and I was pissed. Not only did she end our conversation but this bitch had the nerve to show up at my wedding, and with a smirk on her face.

You have twenty seconds to get the fuck out of here, before I forget this is my reception and drag you out. She put her hands up and opened the door to leave but not before running into Hurricane, who snatched her ass up.

What the fuck are you doing here? She was struggling to breathe as he held her in the air.

Baby, put her down. I instructed and he slowly let her go. She sat against the wall trying to catch her breath.

What the fuck is she doing here Hurricane? I know, I had no right to blame him because I’m sure he’s as shocked as me. However, I wanted to know.

Mr. and Mrs. Hollis, can we get you out here? Your friends put together a video for you. The DJ said over the microphone.

You better not be here when we return. Let’s go Promise. He grabbed my hand and told Stella to come with us.

Fuck you Hurricane. He squeezed my hand tight and I had to keep him from turning around.

There you are. Play the video.

The DJ said and everyone gathered around to watch. I figured it was all of our friends and family wishing us well, but what I saw, made me drop Hurricane’s hand.

Come on baby. You’re the one who asked me. The chick said to Hurricane in the video.

I could see his face scrunch up,
