My Love His Loyalty - Mollysha Johnson

    Chanel Samuels

Walking down the hallway I checked in both BJ and Cayden’s bedrooms making sure they were asleep. Lord knows I was grateful to have a little time to myself. Most of my day consists of running behind those two like a mad woman.

Making my way downstairs I made sure all my doors were locked then got myself a glass of wine. I went back upstairs to my bedroom, grabbed the blunt I already had rolled and went out on my balcony taking a seat. My eyes scanned over my luxurious backyard as I lit the end of my blunt.

I love my house; it’s five thousand square feet of beauty and I’m going to miss it. As much as I don’t want to leave my home, I have to so my family can be together in the right way.

Here I am in Miami, Florida living in a $900,000 home, three cars in the garage, a closet full of top of the line designer clothes and money at my fingertips. You would think I would be happier than hell but I’m not. The only thing that puts a smile on my face is my kids. I’m grateful that we are well taken care of but I’m tired of doing everything by myself.

Somehow I let my fiancé, if you can call him that, Brandon convince me to move down here from New Jersey. Our oldest son BJ was two years old at the time and he hit me with, it’s a risk to be in the city while he was still coming up in the game.

He comes down here for a couple of days every month and we talk most days but that’s not enough for me anymore. I’m not about to keep living in a different state than the man I’m supposed to be marrying. He can miss me with all that it’s dangerous bullshit. At this point the nigga could hire security if he wants to, it’s not like he can’t afford that shit.

Brandon used to sell weed here and there when we were in high school, but he wasn’t really in the streets like that to my knowledge. It wasn’t until I got pregnant when we were eighteen that he got deeper into it. He was already friends with Legend Santana in high school and once they started running the streets together shit got real.

He felt like at that point he had a family to take care of and getting that money was his only way of making it happen. Over the years he continued to work with Legend and now they’re all on top of the world. Since he was working his ass off to provide for us I didn’t complain about our living arrangements. I kept quiet on that particular issue because I didn’t want for anything.

Now ten years and another son later nothing but our bank accounts have changed. I’m down here with two kids while he’s up in Jersey doing only God knows what. Brandon comes down for a few days every month and we talk most days but that’s a wrap. I can’t keep doing everything by my damn self.

BJ is twelve and feeling himself. He’s at that age where he thinks he’s grown enough to start talking back and shit. Cayden is eight years old, and he’s constantly asking for his father so that’s what he’s about to get on the daily basis. I didn’t lie down and get myself pregnant, so I’m done raising them alone,

Of course Brandon doesn’t want me to come back. He claims shit is too crazy, but I know that’s complete bullshit. He just wants to keep doing him without hearing my mouth about it. I’m not stupid, I’m far from it; I know he’s up there living like he’s single. That’s what niggas do but it’s a wrap once I get back. I’ll be damned if he does anything when I’m close enough to run his ass over.

    Playtime is over.

    Brandon Barry Davis

    She’s Back.

I f this nigga looks at his watch one more fuckin’ time I swear to God, my nigga Legend said when I glanced at my Rolex. ‘What’s up with you my nigga? We’re supposed to be having a good time and you’re over there on some paranoid shit."

    Fuck you nigga, I chuckled.

He’s waiting on Chanel’s crazy ass to get here, Dutch added in. Who did you send to go get her?

This nigga over here let me use his sprinter. I been drinking and shit since this morning so I’m not that equipped to drive, I said pointing to Legend. Don’t call her crazy, Miami calmed her down some.

That’s a fuckin’ lie, her ass been crazy since high school. I still don’t know how the fuck you pulled that off. I do remember how you two used to get down. Don’t be in here on that rowdy shit. Toi will have a problem and those two going at it, isn’t what I need right now, Legend warned. I didn’t need him saying shit; I already know how Toi is coming. I’m not fuckin’ up this house.

Man we’ll be alright. Where is Toi anyway? Legend had a few people from the crew over along with their families, so it was kids running around and playing in the pool since it’s been hot as hell this week. We’re in October and it’s been in the eighties all week, so he figured why not take advantage of that. We were sitting around throwing back a few beers while the women were clucking about whatever.

Jurnee woke up so she’s up there getting her dressed. She’ll be down here in a minute.

I’m still not off this nigga having two daughters, Tone joked. I told you, you were going to be one of those niggas who has nothing but girls.

Fuck you, the next one is going to be a boy, Legend laughed.

Good luck convincing her to give you another baby. Didn’t you say she said she would rather kill you and her than have another baby? said Yung.

She was in labor when she said that shit, so she swears she’s done. She only had that much pain because her simple ass didn’t want to get an epidural until it was too late, Legend shrugged. She can say whatever she wants, I bet I get a son out of her ass and I’m not stopping there.

Nigga how many kids do you want?

As many as we can have. Don’t worry about me and mine nigga. Worry about Chanel not murdering your ass now that she’s back up here.

We’re going to be fine. I’m not worried about it, I tried to sound convincing but in reality I was a little bit worried.

Chanel has a temper; she’s very territorial and she has a low tolerance for bullshit. I know how she can get, and the shit isn’t anything nice. You add that with my temper, and you have a bad situation on your hands.

Since she’s been in Miami we don’t fight like that because we barely see each other. When you’re only around somebody a couple of days out the month, the last thing you want to do is fight. In effort to keep the peace I know Chanel bit her tongue on a lot of things.

Now that we’re going to be under one roof, that shit is a wrap. If she has an issue she’s going to make it known and if pushed she’ll take it upon herself to solve it; even if it means hurting some body.

Speaking of her let me go see where the fuck they at. She’s probably knocking on the door and we can’t hear the shit. Legend got up and walked into his house while dialing a number on his phone.

Nigga I know you’re nervous as fuck about Nell coming back up here. All that partying with bitches and shit has to stop now.

I looked over at Dutch and shook my head. I’m not nervous about shit; I just don’t want the drama. I don’t need you or the rest of you niggas cracking jokes about bitches trying to be funny and shit.

I got you, Dutch laughed. I’m not playing with Chanel like that. She’ll fuck around and kill all of us.

Dutch and I continued to talk until Legend came back outside with Chanel and my kids’ right behind him a few minutes later. Smiling I stood up and walked over to her.

Even though I wasn’t really feeling the idea of her coming back up here I was happy to see her, plus she looked good as shit. Chanel is 5’4" with a small frame which caused people to underestimate her quite a bit. With a honey caramel complexion, brown upturned eyes, and a short blonde cut she looked every bit of eighteen years old. If it wasn’t for the tattoos on her arm, wrist, and right side of her neck you would probably think she was someone’s teenage daughter instead of a grown ass woman.

I missed the fuck outta you girl, I said in her ear while I hugged her body tight.

I’m sure you did. Make sure you show me how much later, Chanel laughed. Letting her go some I kissed her on the lips then looked at BJ and hugged him. BJ’s isn’t only my name sake; he’s like a mini me in every sense of the word. We shared the same deep brown complexion, bushy eyebrows and standing at 5’6", he was already taller than his mother. From what Chanel tells me he has a slight attitude problem; the same issue my mother had with me.

    What’s up big man?

What’s up pops? BJ said, trying to sound like he was too cool to say dad. I had to laugh at it. I looked at Cayden who was the spitting image of his mother. Chanel kept his hair in long cornrows or box braids while keeping BJ’s hair cut low in a dark Caesar.

Were y’all being good for your mama down there? I asked them.

I was, Cayden answered me while BJ stayed quiet.

I see you’re the only one that answered, I looked at BJ again. I heard about you down there acting like a fuckin’ dummy. It’s aight though; we’re going to handle that shit this summer. Come September that attitude will be straightened out. I’ll be damned if you act an ass up here. I glanced over at Chanel. Nell, you bought their swim trunks?

Yeah, it’s in their book bags. Legend, where is a bathroom? Chanel asked.

First door on the right in the hallway, Legend told her then she went walking in the house with the boys. The fuck is up with BJ? He’s acting up?

Hell yeah; it’s not shocking I used to act the same damn way when I was his age but he’s not going to keep that shit up. I’ll break him out of that it.

At least you got them up here now. I’m not even trying to be away from mine, Legend shook his head.

    What were you charged with?

Criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree; I had two guns on me so what they’re doing is charging me for each one. The max is fifteen years so I could be facing thirty years.

    Damn man.

As much as he wasn’t trying to show it; I know Legend is stressing about all the shit he had going on.

This nigga just had his daughter a couple of months ago and now he’s looking at a possible thirty years for a gun charge. It’s fucked up but it’s not shocking, New York is not the place you want to get caught with a gun and that’s where he was when he got arrested.

What’s crazier is it wasn’t NYPD that got him; he was caught by the damn Feds. It probably wouldn’t matter if he wasn’t the Legend Santana but since he is, they’re going to try and throw the book at him. The only reason he got bail was because his lawyer and the judge went way back.

My lawyer is trying to get that shit lowered. I don’t know what the fuck is going to happen with it right now.

    How is Toi taking it?

She says she’s okay, but I know it’s in the back of her mind. I told her if I ended up doing fifteen or more she didn’t have to wait for me, and I would still make sure her, and my daughter would be taken care of. Shorty looked me in my face and told me she was going to wait it out no matter the outcome. I’m telling you niggas now, that’s my wife. I knew I wanted to marry her, but that shit gave me the final confirmation.

So you plan on proposing to Toi? Tone questioned.

Yeah and I want all you niggas there. I want everybody there.

If you feel like you want to take that step then I’ll be there. I know you love her, and her mean ass loves you too.

Who loves what? Toi asked when she walked up. What are y’all talking about?

We’re talking about the case baby, Legend told her while taking their seven-month-old daughter out of her arms.

Oh God, please don’t even start that conversation. Toi shook her head. She was just as stressed about his case as he was. What I want to know is why you never told anybody you had a wifey. Toi hit my arm.

Nobody really knew about Chanel and my kids unless they knew us before she moved down to Miami. I don’t like having my business all out in the streets.

It never came up, I shrugged.

Bullshit you could’ve said something. Where is she?

Oh she’s in the house changing their kid’s clothes, Legend told her.

Que, you have a stranger in our house? What if she’s a thief? I don’t know her.

She’s not a thief man and chill out she’s coming right now, I said when I saw Chanel coming outside with BJ and Cayden.

Toi turned around then screamed like she was stupid. Chanel’s head shot up, showing off her confused expression. Once her eyes landed on Toi she screamed too. After screaming like idiots they ran towards each other and hugged. I looked at Legend who looked just as stuck as I did. What the fuck was really going on right now?

    Chanel

After hugging for what felt like forever I let Toi go then stood back some. Oh my God, look at you baby cousin! You’re all grown up! I squealed.

The last time I saw Toi she was still a kid and now I’m looking at this grown ass woman standing in front of me in awe. Her brown skin was poppin’ and her dark hair was flowing past her shoulders. The red black and white striped maxi dress showed her of slim but curvy shape in the most perfect way. My baby cousin grew up to be fine as shit.

That’s what happens in ten years bitch. You still look good. You haven’t aged at all, Toi replied.

It’s in the genes you know that. I laughed. I can’t believe I’m looking at you right now. I was going to come looking for you once I got settled in back up here. I’m sorry I missed auntie’s funeral. I couldn’t see her like that; it would’ve fucked my brain up.

I know, you told me that when we spoke. I was surprised you called me to be honest.

My mother got your number from Geneva, so I reached out. I had to; it would’ve been messed up to not at least call. I spoke to auntie the day before and she sounded fine. That shit shocked the fuck out of me.

Losing my aunt Eartha was a complete shock to me because nobody knew anything was wrong with her. She was fine as far as I knew, and she never even told anybody something serious might’ve been going on. But then again that’s just the way she was. She would rather go through whatever it was alone then have people feeling bad and worrying about her. At least I know my grandpa isn’t alone anymore, he has his baby sister to keep him company now.

Me too, I didn’t know anything was wrong with her. She didn’t tell me anything. It’s alright though she’s in a better place so I’m at peace with that. You need to make a fucking Instagram, a Facebook or something.

Nah, I chuckled. I’m good on that social media shit. I’m not even about too caught up in it. It would only take somebody saying one fucked up thing to or about me and I’m going to jail for assault.

That’s why they have a block button, I use it very frequently. Where is your son? He was what? One when you moved down south?

He was two and he’s twelve now. He’s right here, I turned to BJ. Say hi to your cousin Toi, I told him.

Oh my God, he’s almost taller than me! Hi, can I have a hug? She asked him but hugged the poor boy before he could even answer. You’re so handsome; I haven’t seen you since you were a baby. She kissed him on the cheek then finally let him go.

    This is Cayden, he’s eight.

Ooh he looks just like you and look at his braids. Chanel they’re too cute.

Thank you. So what are you doing here? You know Legend?

Do I know Legend? Toi chuckled. See this is why you need to be on the internet. I live here; Legend is my daughter’s father.

Are you fucking serious? I asked, shocked.

Yeah, we’ve been together for a while now. We looked over at Brandon and Legend who were still trying to figure out what was going on.

Fix your face baby, Toi laughed at Legend.

How do y’all know each other? quizzed Brandon.

This is my cousin. Her grandmother and my grandfather were siblings, I noted.

Wait, this is your baby father? Toi pointed to Brandon. I thought your baby daddy’s name was Brandon, that fool’s name is Barry.

Yeah well his mother and I know him as Brandon.

Damn Barry, you’re with my crazy ass cousin? Toi laughed. You know she’s psychotic right?

I’m not psychotic, I just don’t like being fucked with, I said, trying to defend myself.

People always call me crazy but I’m not. I just don’t have time for the foolishness. It’s not my fault I know how to fight and I’m not apologizing for being strong, fuck that. I can and will defend myself by any means necessary; if you got a problem with it don’t fuck with me.

Chile bye, your ass is crazy just like I said. I’m glad you’re back, this is about to be like Love and Hip Hop live, I’m here for it, she laughed then hugged me. I’m playing, I know y’all are good. I personally have not seen him do anything he couldn’t do in your face.

I’m sure he’s been a good guy while I was away. For his sake everything better be good, I chuckled in an attempt to lighten my words. By the way Brandon was looking at me, he knows I meant that shit.

    That’s your daughter?

    Yeah, her name is Jurnee.

Aww let me see her. I went over to Que and picked Jurnee up. She is so pretty, look at all of this hair. You must’ve had heartburn like a bitch.

Hell yeah, that shit was horrible.

That’s how it is baby girl. I gave Jurnee back to Que when my eyes landed on Dutch. Oh hell no, look at this fuckin’ shim right here, I laughed.

Oh you got jokes right? She laughed while standing up. We hugged than she sat back down. About time you spoke I thought you were iggin’ me.

Nah I wouldn’t do that I dead ass didn’t notice you until just now.

Ma, can we get in the pool? BJ asked me.

Go ahead but watch your brother like a damn hawk BJ I’m not playing.

I know I got him. He took Cayden by the hand going over to the pool.

Damn you really have two kids? I remember when you got pregnant with BJ. Your mother was ready to cut your damn head off.

She wanted to kill my ass. I sat on Brandon’s lap. She was on some Claudine shit and beat me with a fucking hair brush.

Having my first child at sixteen wasn’t what I planned for my life, but it happened. My mother did not take that shit lightly and I get it, especially having children myself. BJ is all girl crazy now and he’s only twelve, I wish that little nigga would come to me talking about he got somebody fucking pregnant in four years. I’ll be in jail for killing his ass and I am not playing.

My mother hit me with a fucking broomstick, Brandon said. They were not happy but oh well. Shit happens. I made sure my family was taken care of, so they were good.

My mother really got mad when I moved, remember? I asked Brandon.

Hell yeah, you were only eighteen, so I understand it, but it was for the damn best. She got over it eventually.

I have to go see her tomorrow. Toi, do you want to come with me?

Yeah I’ll tag along we’ll discuss the details later. I’m about to go put her back in the house and take her to my mother. That’s enough outside time.

    Geneva is here?

Yeah she’s here; she’s in the guest house. That’s her space she didn’t want to be up under us.

Let me go see her. I got up off of Brandon’s lap. Watch your kids; if my baby drowns I’m fucking somebody up.

I got them go ahead, he said. Toi took Jurnee from Que then we went inside the house.

Are you happy to be back up here?

    I want to be.

Even though it was my idea to move back to Jersey I have yet to be happy about my decision. Mostly because I can’t shake this anxious feeling I have. Something isn’t feeling right to me, but I don’t have anything to lean on, it’s just a suspicion but it’s fucking with my head.

I hope it’s just my paranoia and I turn out to be wrong because God help all of us if I’m not.

We spent a few good hours at Legend’s house just relaxing and having a good time before we finally decided to leave. Now we were on our way to what I will know to be home from now on.

I can’t believe Legend bagged my baby cousin, I said to Brandon while he drove

    It’s a small ass world; I didn’t know y’all were related.

That’s because I haven’t been up here to bring you to family functions so of course you wouldn’t know. Speaking of families, how is yours doing?

They’re aight, mama is happy the boys are up here. You too, she want’s y’all over her house as soon as possible.

    "I’ll go see
