    PROLOGUE

The young prince studied the manner in which Autumn swathed the land. He beheld the enormous pasture that lay before him. There he enjoyed the way wild grasses had transitioned into a hue of pale-yellow. Glancing about he observed how the leaves on the trees emerged in shades of gold, wine reds and darker ones laid out a colorful well-scattered blanket on the blonde grass.

This was the meadow where he and his fiancée met in secret. There they made ardent love and shared their dreams about their impending marriage, which would transpire in several months. This was the manner in which their relationship transpired for weeks, but, before leaving each other yesterday, they’d planned to meet today.

When he started out from his mother’s castle that morning the prince rode his mare fast over the road leading to the forest.  He spurred his animal forward as though the devil stalked him through the thick woodland intent on taking his life. He felt so alive and joyous as he looked about the forests as the vibrant colors of the flowers lifted his emotions heavenward even though their colors were fading. The woods were vibrant this day of the season. Wide ribbons of golden daylight sliced through the limbs of dark green pine trees. They struck the ground comparable to golden swords.

The Prince dismounted then tied the mare to a tree nearby. The tip of his boots kicked up the leaves under them making a rustling sound. He sat on a huge boulder and waited for her understanding that she was joining him soon.

His thoughts slipped away, as he recalled how he had pled with her father, the king to allow her to marry him even though she was at the youthful age of sixteen. Days of intense deliberation followed with his dad, him and their lawyers being present. They could substantiate his monetary worth to the sovereign. Besides his capability to care for his daughter in the fashion, they accustomed her to. The sovereign conceded to their marriage, but he decided not to sign the marital contracts for three months. Her father believed that his daughter needed space to think things over to be certain about the marriage.

He smiled, considering that he never could be happier than he was at the point in his existence. Hours passed as the daytime within the forests began to give sway to a sultry semi-darkness. The youthful prince jumped to his feet, untying the horses' reins, and mounted the beast. He traveled as if he were being hunted as fearful worries overwhelmed him feeling that a mishap had occurred. Because she had not joined him this afternoon, nor would she ever again. She’d deserted him for someone else.

But that was years ago, as he reminisced over that terrible experience in his existence. Alone in his study, he stoked the fire in the massive grate. Sparks fanned

up from the logs into the air like golden fireflies they’d caught his attention, as he admired their beauty.

The dreadful crisis of losing his sweetheart turned him into something that fate never meant him to be. So, he developed into a loner, forever cautious of would-be lovers. He’d become a man unto himself, shunning sweethearts for the sake of his fragile survival. Until he found and married Xavier’s mother who was the companion, he’d sought all along.

    Chapter 1 The Recluse

In the kingdom of Verood, lives a widowed, middle-aged, handsome prince.

He is forty years of age and he is six feet four inches tall. The princes’ physique is muscular with broad shoulders because he spars with a companion in the lists frequently. Prince Jarrod’s face is square in shape, with a rugged masculine jawline and a fine-chiseled nose. His lips are sumptuous and full. The prince’s eyes are rounded, and his eye color is a startling shade of sapphire blue. His thick hair and fine eyebrows are pure white. He wears his hair shoulder length.  This prince is extraordinarily stately and distinguished in style and speech having attended, Cambridge University in Cambridge, England.

In the realm, they know him as the respected, Jarrod Maximillian La Prince de La Maison de La Faucon Blanc.  This prince lives alone out of choice, finding solace in his present-day lifestyle. If it were not for his twenty servants living with him in his elegant mansion, his peers would consider him as being reclusive.  Five years ago, his eccentric behavior soon became apparent to his family and peers. The prince became a different man following the stabbing death of his wife on the grounds of their estate.

Regrettably, for the prince and his family, those responsible for her demise were never apprehended.    Regardless of the marked changes in his behavior, royalty continued to think well of him and respected his wish to be alone.

Prince Jarrod is a Peer of the Realm, because of his father’s noble lineage as a peer. They passed the title on to the prince upon his father’s demise. Also, he is the third wealthiest prince, in the kingdom and he possesses immense inherited monetary wealth. The nobility held him in high regard because of his widespread monetary generosity to the sick. They were vast philanthropic donations to charities and hospitals for sick children. They utilized the monies to renovate various impoverished facilities into conditions of modernity. The Board of Trustee’s at several of these hospitals paid large amounts of Pounds Sterling for salaries, so they could employ talented doctors. Who were a specialist in the field of Pediatric Medicine?"

Members of royalty always invited him to lavish social gatherings. Such as majestic weddings, regal christenings, and state dinners, all of which he declined to attend. But because of his refined manners, he invariably sent a kind measure in the form of a thank you note accompanied by a beautiful gift to show his appreciation for them, including him.

    Chapter 2 Prince Xavier

Contrary to Prince Jarrod’s disposition to be alone, his only child’s nuptials will take place in three weeks. Being the boy’s father, he must supervise and take a major role in the wedding. Because of various rules pertaining to royal protocol and the practice in aristocratic etiquette.

Jarrod thought of his son, finding it hard to believe he was marrying already.

He considered how he’d grown to manhood quickly. But his father understood all too well why women of all types and reputation became attracted to him. The lad is a handsome man. Many individuals complimented Jarrod on being the boy’s father and for having produced such an elegant chap.

Xavier is six feet tall, and he has curly, flaxen-yellow hair. Which is dissimilar to his father’s which is snow white. But he wears his parted down the center of his head, allowing his locks to falls onto each shoulder. Xavier loves to dress in splendid fashion and style. He held no inhibitions regarding spending thousands of pounds to attire himself splendidly.

His smashing looks are important to him. In the lists or practice yard, he is exceptionally careful that his face does not receive a disfigurement or a cut or bruise. This could take place during an exchange of blows with his fighting partners. However, that being the reason he enjoys swordplay. He practices using

Rapiers, foils, and long Italian dagger’s in the practice yard. That way he can do battle at a fair, distance from his opponent. Therefore, the chances of him being scarred is greatly reduced.

The lad is a great deal of fun, especially when he is with other young people his age. In addition, he is intelligent and shrewd, especially when dealing with money. Xavier reassembled his mother in stature, his father always believed. The lad is of medium build. His physique is not robust or muscular. Remarkably, for a young man his age who exercises
