This fairy tale is in honor of the life I spent with my husband, Tom: the love of my life, my soulmate, my knight in shining armor, the man who treated me like a princess.
It is also dedicated to my ever-so-precious sons, TJ and Brendan; my granddaughter Kynlie; and my many bonus sons, daughters, and grandchildren. Also my aunt Judyrhea for pushing me to write.
I love you more than all the grains of sand in the universe. Always remember, not every fairy tale has to have a villain, but sometimes darkness does appear. All of you are the bright light in my darkened world.
1
Once upon a time, there was a small kingdom where a King and Queen ruled all creatures, large and small.
King Edward was a stoic and gracious King. He loved Queen Astoria more than all the grains of sand in the universe. She was tiny in stature, with an olive complexion, dark-brown curly locks that fell down her back, and fluorescent green eyes. He treated her the way a queen should be treated. He not only bestowed upon her riches but also something far more valuable than riches, and that was love.
They led a perfect fairy-tale life. So much so that when he proposed marriage to her, he did so on one knee in front of the castle that she so admired.
They married in a small ceremony in the woods where they were surrounded by those they held closest to their hearts. A beautiful crown of flowers adorned Astoria's head. She was dressed in an hourglass-shaped gown with a beautiful lace train embellished with many sequins and crystals that followed 157 feet behind her. She carried a bouquet of the most fragrant deep purple, lavender, and yellow roses, with ivy and baby's breath buds that cascaded to her feet. It was a remarkable day, one that Queen Astoria loved to share the story of.
After their uniting ceremony, King Edward swept his new Queen off to a foreign land that she had never experienced before, a land with enchanting mountains and magnificent waters. The waters were so pure that you would think you were gazing through glass, but so blue that a sapphire didn't even compare to its shade. They stayed in the charmed land for 157 days and 157 nights until they returned to their beloved castle. Upon their return, they were greeted by the loyal subjects they called friends and family.
Queen Astoria enjoyed spending time in the many gardens that King Edward had created for her. There were so many gardens they seemed like a maze. She took walks alone from time to time, but mostly she and the King walked hand in hand for hours upon end, talking about everything and sometimes nothing at all. They were content just being with each other.
It wasn't long before two handsome Princes were brought to the King and Queen on the wind by the fairies.
Prince Timothy James was the first. He was a bit small when the fairies brought him, but he was strong. He had beautiful olive skin like the Queen. His eyes were as black as coal, and he had a head of lavish black hair. The King and Queen decided to call him TJ. As the young Prince grew, his eyes went from coal black to exquisite golden brown. They were so golden that when you looked at him, it appeared that his eyes were luminescent. His eyes were the windows to his soul. The Queen could sense when he was out of sorts because his golden eyes grew dark.
Prince TJ was almost seven years old when the fairies brought the second Prince to the castle. Prince Brendan was also tiny, but he grew heartily just as his brother had. Prince Brendan also had the olive complexion like his brother, but this little Prince had crystal-blue eyes and brown hair so light you could barely tell he had any hair at all. Just as Prince TJ was, Prince Brendan was also perfect.
As time went on, the King, Queen, and their two Princes flourished. The kingdom was ruled with love and respect. Everything blossomed, not just the trees and flowers but everything—creatures, crops, and businesses alike.
King Edward and Queen Astoria did not consider themselves above anyone in their kingdom. These practices were not common. They wanted their loyal subjects to feel as if they were also royalty. They wanted for everyone to feel like they had the riches and love that the King, Queen, and Princes shared and felt for one another. If they knew of anyone who was not able to prosper within the kingdom, the family opened the castle to them until they were able to succeed on their own. This practice gave them numerous bonus Princes and Princesses, on whom they
