About this ebook

Teapot in the Fridge is a collection of poems written in love, rage and despair by a wife caring for her husband as he descends into the no-man’s-land of dementia.   The tone of the poems range from the desolate to the furious, and from nostalgia to hilarity to despair, but informing all of them is the sense – unshakeable – that 'what will remain of us is love.'

'An outstanding illustration of the love and concern of one caring for a partner with dementia' – Timothy West.

Listening and not listening to music you once knew

And to the silence when the music stops.

Wondering now and then what happened to that key

And to the nuggets stored under that tree.

Watching the shadows lengthen as they creep

Up to the chair you sit in, half asleep.

    Words

Bit by bit I’m losing you,

    The man I loved.

Words that you used to play with joyously

    Now float above

    That lion’s head of yours,

    Just out of reach.

The nectarine and the curious peach

    No longer tempt you with

    Their tastes unknown.

    The blossoms of your
