    Father Santiago was a pious man. Nothing fulfilled him more than his daily life of at the little chapel on the outskirts of town.

    But in his youth, he was nearly steered into a life of debauchery, mischief and avaricious anarchism. He was a street thug in his teens with no ambitions and no guidance. He was lost like so many other souls who chose a violent and petty life of larceny, theft and mischief. But even in his youth, Santiago knew he really didn’t want to be a social pariah. He didn’t really wish to be destructive. One night, the other members of his gang dared him to rob the Chapel offering dish alone. Not wanted to be labeled a coward, he broke inside. He snuck inside through a window and snatched the offering dish. But when encountered by the elderly Father Domingo, Santiago, panicked and not wanting to get in trouble, struck the old priest on the head and was about to escape when he heard the old man moaning.
