AUTHOR’S NOTE
This short story serves as the prequel for the Heirs of Aragon series. The story of Datu Asana tells how the traditional battle began between the families of Infantra, Artilla and Caballero. The three families reside in the fictional Province of Aragon located at the northern part of the Philippine and facing the Pacific Ocean.

Land of Aragon
Datu Asana caressed the stomach of his wife, Gamina. Gamina was almost due to give birth to their first child. Datu Asana hoped that his first child would be a son, so he could become his heir. And if he died in the upcoming battle, his son would continue the fight against their enemies and claim their tribe’s right on the land of Aragon.
Do you really need to lead our warriors in this battle, husband?
There was fear in Gamina’s voice. You don’t need to be one of the ten warriors who will fight against the Hantik and Laywan Tribes!

Datu Asana gently touched his wife’s worried face.
I am the leader of the Kabag Tribe, Gamina. What kind of leader would I be if I just stayed with my wife while I sent my warriors to war? The honor of our tribe is also at stake in this battle. If I die today, I want you, our child and our tribe to remember me as a brave and honorable warrior who sacrificed his life so we will be able to own this land.
Gamina burst into tears. Datu Asana embraced his wife to allay her fears.
