A Streamers Guide to Building Success on Twitch

Why you should read this book
As you read this book, there are four main things I want you to take from my experiences with Twitch and within my own life.
First - a highly detailed checklist of all tasks recommended and some super important things to consider to set up your brand, for Twitch streaming, and for social media. I will provide a simple outline of steps that you can take before and during your journey to make your life as easy as possible.
Second - a plethora of advice you can implement across your space to give you the best chance of success and motivate growth on your Twitch channel. Anybody can set up gameplay, camera scenes, and play video games. But by the end of this book, you won’t be just anybody: you will be someone with really great Twitch secrets and a competitive edge.
Third - the best mindset possible to go into this journey, as prepared and as passionate as you can. You will have a good idea of what to expect when you start making your transition from beginner to intermediate unbelievably fulfilling.
Fourth - all of the information that I have learned over my time in the Twitch space; taking away as much research from your workload as possible. I have done that for you and will outline all of it in this book.
I am not offering pro-streaming advice that will get you partnered in 3 months or tons of money in donations and subs. At the end of the day, that’s not why I stream. I am offering you an inside look at the way I think about streaming, as well as a comprehensive way to get started, begin to develop a recognizable brand for your channel, and some unique ideas to bring value to your community. I want to provide you with a particular mindset for streaming success and the ability to be creative and develop your own ideas.
This book will not tell you how to set up OBS or troubleshoot camera problems because there are thousands of people who make Youtube tutorials for that. However, it will teach you a wide range of skills that I consider to be very important in the setup and technical aspect of your stream. Part of the journey is learning how to use your own tech so that when things go wrong, and they will, you know and understand enough about what you are running to quickly fix issues.
I am going to break each section down for you from setup and testing, to branding advice, and discovering who you are as a streamer. I will talk about presentation, community, and most importantly, value within your stream. All with some things to consider and hopefully some ideas to get your creative juices flowing.
This is YOUR brand and this is YOUR journey. I cannot write your story for you. But I want to be the best guide that I can be so that you can experience the feeling that I have when working hard for my passion on Twitch.
I want to inspire creativity inside of your mind and drive passion inside of your heart to create something amazing for yourself. I want to give you the resources to make this whole process just that little bit more enjoyable. If at the end of the day you can say you tried your absolute best to be successful, then I have done my job.
I believe the first step is understanding the situation that you are getting yourself into. Something that hangs in the back of my mind all the time is the reason that I started in the first place. If you never forget the reason you started all of this, you will keep moving forward.
Do you believe you have what it takes to be a successful streamer? This is the beginning.
A survey was conducted as research for this book. There are quotes throughout the book that were written by streamers and viewers. References will be included with the quotes.
I thought about how long people watch Netflix for. 2 Hours, 4 Hours, sometimes 10 Hour binge sessions. How can I make my stream so interactive and entertaining that people want to spend that much time with me and enjoy my content for a long time?

The History of the Sleepyhobo91
From an early age and throughout my life, I have loved being in front of the camera. I have always tried to be the entertainer
for family and friends. My parents were always capturing hilarious moments of me which they had no shame in showing on my 21st birthday. One of those typical 21st’s where all of your friends and family stand around and waffle at your idiocy and you just have to sit there watching as your dignity slowly disappears.
We are going to start by rewinding all the way back to 2014. I was 22 years old and I had first discovered Twitch. I can’t remember exactly how I stumbled across the magnificent webpage but it might have been in my early search for success on Youtube. Like every young person growing up in the age of the internet, I was fascinated by the idea of becoming successful on Youtube and earning an income making videos on the platform.
The discovery of Twitch just felt like everything I embodied as a person with the love of video games, an ability to let go on camera, and just try to be entertaining for the people who cared to watch. From the moment I found Twitch and the more I watched streamers performing their creative artform live on stream, the bigger the excitement inside of me grew. The desire to build a profile and start streaming became a powerful thought every day. Every single minute I had to spare was spent researching products, how to be a successful streamer, and other streamers who had made it big.
I watched Youtube videos of How To Be A Streamer
and practiced talking to no one in my car on the way to work for weeks before I started. Work became even more mentally draining as I knew what I wanted to do in life, but I had to be stuck there instead.
I was a qualified Graphic Designer which I loved but I had made some bad promotional choices within the same company in my earlier years. I was now doing 12 hour shifts as a wine label printer and I absolutely hated it. I wanted and needed a change.
So at 3.30am after work each morning, I would hit the big, red GO LIVE button on Twitch. As tired as I was, I would still give all of the energy I had left inside of me to provide great entertainment and content.
Twitch was way different back in 2014. It was so simple and easy to understand. There was no need for any form of social media and if you had it, it was just an added bonus. I had an instagram which I posted to my fans under the name Sleepyhobo91. You didn’t need a Discord and you didn’t need to bring your audience in from other social media platforms.
Another thing I figured out early on was how to play
the category lists. How to gravitate toward popular games that were not over-saturated and be in the best position for
