The Stars of YouTube

“I must have been about 10-years-old when I discovered YouTube, and was instantly drawn to its potential. By the time I was 13, I had decided to pursue a career on YouTube—it was a very intuitive calling for me. The first video I ever uploaded was of me playing Outlast, a first-person survival horror video game. It got just one Like in a month…which was by me… from a friend’s phone!

The strangest thing is that I have been on YouTube for years now but I am still clueless about how it works…a lot of it is still Greek to me!

Honestly, I think the best content comes out in the worst of times. I try to create something that is genuinely amusing or cringe-worthy. Some content—like, say, a consecutive, action-reaction video—takes me two weeks to create, while some others—like a rant or a current topic-related video—can take more than a month.

I believe what you create should come straight from the heart; it should scream passion, and also be relatable. And it is best to ignore the hate, and focus only on the love that comes. It is important to learn to accept that everyone has an opinion, and you can’t tick all the boxes.”

“I remember my first Vine got 9 Likes; and the first comment said, ‘Not funny!’. But I didn’t give up…I always knew I wanted to become an actor. All of this comedy and Vine-making began as just an experiment. But soon, people were stealing my videos and posting them on YouTube. And once I realised that I could even earn from them (which, BTW, took me three years to figure out!), I just hopped on the wagon and became a YouTuber.

People think YouTubers earn in crores each month, calculating and multiplying Views with earnings. I find that hilarious, because the CPM [cost per 1,000 impressions] in India is very low…and what we really earn is
