Pamela Perry Jordan

I, Pamela Perry Jordan, was born and raised in Jackson Mississippi. I am blessed to have been raised by both biological parents, the fifth of eight children. I say "blessed" because today it is not so common. I am the proud parent of two adult children, who were raised in a single parent home. Danielle and Rhashad remain the joy of my life, however I was recently honored with the gift of a grandson, Asiah, my other treasured possession. Early in life, I realized that I had been anointed to counsel. I began to follow my calling while a junior in high school, when a neighbor asked me to counsel her "troubled" son. At that time, her son was a student in my biology class. After graduating high school, I earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Mental Health from Tougaloo College in Jackson, Mississippi. I obtained a master's degree in Community Counseling from Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi. Additionally, I obtained a certification in Behavior Disorders and then a specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. My professional experiences in both public and private sectors include working as a vocational counselor, clinical administrator (state hospital), teacher for students challenged with behavior disorders, and a child/adolescent therapist (emergency shelter). Currently, I am employed with Clayton County Public Schools as a Behavior Intervention Specialist. I have always had a heart for God. Growing up in the church, I served as Sunday School teacher and sang with the adult choir. As a member of New Macedonia Baptist Church, I continue to serve in the capacity of Youth Sunday School teacher, choir member and volunteer for Vacation Bible School. Because of my love for God's creation, much of my leisure time is spent going for long walks, traveling, and tending and nurturing my yard, however, most rewarding is time spent fellowshipping with family and friends.

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

    Ephesians 6:4

    Dedication

First, I give honor to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who has afforded me the privilege of blessing His name through this book. Secondly, hats off to my wonderful children Danielle and Rhashad, who, through God, have been my saving grace. Lastly, this book is dedicated to my grandson Asiah, which means The Lord has made.

    Acknowledgments

First and foremost, I honor God for loving me beyond measure and sending His son Jesus to bear my sins. For God so loved Pamela, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosever believed in him should not perish, but have life everlasting. (John 3:16)

To my parents, Charlie and Sarah Perry, who are now basking in the presence of the Lord; Mom and Dad, I thank you for your unending love and dedication to your children. I have aspired to raise my own children the same way. You have helped make me the woman, mother, and grandmother that I am today.

To the awe-inspiring entourage of family, friends, and associates that God has placed in my life. Thank you for your constant love and support.

To the faithful intercessors that have stood tirelessly beside me; As Aaron and Hur held up the arms of Moses, so have you done. (Exodus 17:12)

I must also mention the Perry Family, Randy and Sarah Gillum, Rolland and Carolyn Marshall, James and Dorothy Warner, Lonnie (PeeWee) and Catherine (Mama Cat) Hinton, James and Dr. Charlotte Shoemaker, Dr. Angela Horrison-Collier, Terry Thomas, Linda Gipson, Joy McDuffie, and Sandy Ingram.

Victoria Arnold, Je’Quita Zachary, and Norris Smith, completion of this project would not have been possible without your loyalty, labor, and commitment.

Kudos to Pastor Gerry and First Lady Vanessa Anderson. You have been commissioned to watch over my soul, divinely and strategically positioned in my life to serve God’s purpose at this appointed time. Thank you for answering the call. May God’s grace, mercy, and unmerited favor forever be evident in your lives.

    Introduction

It is my hope that through this text, Jesus Christ will be edified like never before. Everything that God calls us to do is intentional and ultimately serves His Divine Purpose, so it is no coincidence that you are reading this book.

My aim is for those who were privileged to be raised with the love and support of a father, as well as those who were not, to better understand the role of a father. I hope this understanding will bring empathy, compassion, and a commitment to those who grew up fatherless.

God has afforded me countless opportunities to counsel, teach, and mentor at-risk youth. These children are often part of a vicious cycle through no action of their own; they are victims of unfortunate circumstances. The root issues that identify children
