WHAT I DID ON SUMMER VACATION
Vivica Weston spent the first few weeks of summer vacation channel surfing the TV. Cable was a joke. One hundred channels and yet nothing to watch at all. How people got hooked on that scam, she would never understand. After watching her favorite show, As the World Turns, she would become bored out of her mind, unless a rerun of The Facts of Life came on. Her best friend in the world, Brianna Belle, then insisted on introducing her to General Hospital, but she wasn’t about to get hooked on that show. It always bored her to tears… Luke and Laura had nothing on Lily and Holden. She honestly wasn’t even sure that Luke and Laura were still on the show.
It didn’t help that her new boyfriend, Cliff Knight, was sent off to Amsterdam for the summer by his good for nothing father, Rodrick. Rodrick was pure evil. He didn’t like that the two of them were together, but Vivica didn’t give a damn. Neither did Cliff. They would talk for about five minutes every day at an obscene hour. The long-distance calls were a nightmare. The only reason that her mother Gale had agreed to the calls was that Cliff’s grandmother Delia promised to pay for the phone calls. It was Delia that would only pay for the five-minute call. Her mother Gale, didn’t seem to mind the time of day in which these conversations took place. Partly because she was still getting over her husband’s death, David Brash Junior, or DJ as he was known around town.
After a few weeks, Vivica had definitely had enough. This was when she received a call from a local department store about an upcoming fashion show. Vivica was a part-time local model in Detroit. She had to beg her mother, Gale, to let her do it at first, but thanks to her late stepfather DJ Brash, she caved. The other girls in the fashion show were a mixed bag of meh and decent. They just didn’t understand that modeling was not the same as being in a beauty pageant. You did not smile the entire time, and you definitely did not talk while on the catwalk.
This was going to be a whatever show
, she thought to herself as she put her makeup on at her vanity. Vivica had so much hairspray on that she would have to soak her hair in a bucket for the night to get it out. As she did her eyes, Brianna Belle walked over to her, Oh, this is just so exciting! I can’t believe that you get to do another show!
Brianna was Vivica’s best friend; that was for sure. It was only lately though that Vivica and her had been on good terms. She thought for the longest time that Brianna Belle was after Cliff for herself. It turned out that the reason Brianna always wanted to slip into hanging out with them had nothing to do with Cliff, and everything to do with Vivica… Vivica had to admit she was shocked when Brianna Belle came out as a lesbian to her, but it didn’t bother her in the slightest. She had no sexual attraction to Brianna Belle herself, but she was flattered, and it helped mend their friendship into something a bit stronger over the last month or
