    THE ASTONISHING VOLTAGE: WAVEFRONT
    I
    LIGHTNING ABOVE, TREMORS BELOW

The city of Los Angeles has been restored to its former state. Some neighborhoods are still removing banners of Marc’s New Sparta. The Voltage continued assisting the civilians of the city. Taking down muggers and thieves who look upon the public as weak targets. Much of the city thanked the Voltage for what he did concerning King Marc.

After much timing, Los Angeles has been the sight for continuous and unknown tremors circling the city. After the tremors decrease, streaks of lightning cover the skies. Meteorologists and scientist have looked into the strange phenomenon. Some accuse Voltage’s actions of using his electrical power to bringing about the lightning storms. The Voltage, however, appeared unaffected by the lighting storms. The tremors increased and continued daily till the public looked at them as just another hot day.

Days later, seismologists in the city discover something peculiar moving underneath the city. Pointing its origins to the ocean. Its strength was strong and its speed moved at the mach of Voltage’s own. The object appeared and moved upward toward the city. Within seconds of its discovery, a hole had burst open in the streets of Los Angeles. Out of hole spewed out water from the ocean, followed by a stronger tremor. From the hole, the object came up to the street. Walking. The object was a humanoid figure, but a hybrid creature of sorts. It let out a laugh before vanishing into electrical particles.

The creature was moving through the air and electrical currents surrounding it like a bolt of lightning. Turning its head, something caught its attention as it followed the unseen, yet, sparking trail.

    GROWING ENEMIES

Dealing with the ramifications of joining the Protectors and aiding the Resistance against Octagon, Steve Walker sat in his Grandma’s home as he is greeted by his friends Emily Hemsberg and Gregg Stykes. On the TV in the home was the news. Broadcasting the events of the previous night involving the tremor and the damage done to the street.

Wonder who’s gonna pay for that? Gregg said.

The city will take care of it. Steve replied.

You mean us. Emily said. The taxpayers.

She’s not wrong there. Betty said. Now, what do you all have planned for today?

    Nothing much. Steve said.

A knock came from the door and Steve stood up to answer. Opening the door, he sees her once again.

You’re still here? Steve said, seeing Ava at the door.

I am. Figured we could talk.

Ava entered the home to Emily and Gregg’s surprise. Betty walked over to Ava, hugging her.

I haven’t seen you in years.

    Same here.

    How’s everything? Everyone?

They’re all doing fine. San Francisco fits them perfectly.

Emily and Gregg stood up, greeting Ava.

Nice to see you again, Ava. Emily said.

And I you. You too, Gregg.

Now, Steve, I need to speak with you.

    Sure.

Steve and Ava walked into another room while Betty, Emily, and Gregg stayed in the living room. Entering the other room, Steve closed the door.

What did you want to talk about?

You’ve been distant. Quiet on me ever since I came back.

    Because it was unexpected.

    Unexpected?

Yeah. I’m still trying to figure out you’re still here.

    I didn’t come to start a problem.

    What problem?

I can tell there’s something going on between you and Emily.

I don’t know what you mean.

    Yeah, you do.

Ok. I do. But, it’s something we haven’t figured out yet.

    You told me the same.

    That was before you left.

But, we were close. Closer than you and Emily.

Steve sighed. Walking toward Ava. Placing his hands on her shoulders. He looked into her eyes with a grin.

I can’t balance my time with Emily and with you.

I’m not saying you should balance it. I’m saying you have a choice to make.

    Don’t do this.

We can all be friends. I respect that. But, when it comes to who you’re going to love. It’s in your hands

Ava exited the house while everyone turned to Steve. Who walked out of the room shaking his head.

    What’s wrong? Betty asked.

    Nothing.

Steve hung out with Emily and Gregg throughout the day. Going places and socializing. Upon the brink of dusk, he strange entity rose again in the city, now in the same place as Steve. Seeing the glowing figure ahead. Gregg wanted to get closer, but Emily pulled him back by his shirt. Steve stared. He already knew.

    Guys go.

    What about you? Emily asked.

I’m going to help these people get out of the way.

    Are you crazy?

    Maybe.

Steve ran from the scene, changing from his civilian clothing to the Voltage. Bolting into the air and crashing down in front of the electrical entity. The two stare each other down as the remaining civilians run from the street.

    What are you?

I am lightning. I am water.

    I don’t understand.

    Many do not.

Why are you here? Why attack innocent civilians?

To bring you out. You are the energy I felt as I made my arrival.

    And what do you want?

Your electricity. I require its source. It is unlike anything I have encountered.

    You want my power?

    Precisely.

I think not, whomever you are.

I am Sonicwave. Your death is my introduction.

Only if you can catch me.

Sonicwave chased Voltage through the city of Los Angeles. The two only seemed like moving lightning bolts to those on the ground as the streaked from the air to the ground. However, Sonicwave caught Voltage by his leg, causing him to crash to the street. Voltage turned over to see Sonicwave standing over him, striking him with his electric claws, scratching through his suit. Voltage stood up and delivered lightning punches to Sonicwave. He stood firm with a sinister grin.

    What are you? Voltage wondered.

Sonicwave punched Voltage across the pavement as crowds of civilians began to pour in. surrounding the fight scene. Voltage  stood up and fired electrical blasts toward Sonicwave, who absorbed them without haste. Sonicwave laughed as he fired them back, hitting Voltage in quick succession. Voltage fell to his knees as Sonicwave grabbed him, launching him into the air with a mixture of electric and water. The combination of the blast knocked Voltage unconscious as he fell and collapsed into the street.

As I said, your death is my introduction.

Sonicwave gazed around, seeing the people and vanished with a quickening bolt. Civilians all ran over to the beaten and downed Voltage.

    III
    LIVING YOUR DESTINY

Steve had awoken, finding himself in a room. His room. His body ached from the battle. Bruises covered his body and the pain moved through him as he tried to move around the bed.

How? How did I get here?

Steve took another look and saw Ava sitting on the side of the bed. Immediately, he reached for his mask, now realizing his Voltage suit is laying near the closet door. He glanced at the suit and back to Ava.

    You know?

    I know now.

I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner. Or anyone.

You had good reasons why. Otherwise, we could’ve been targeted and possibly killed. All in the meaning of getting to you.

    Where’s everyone else?

They’re doing what they can to get away from that thing’s havoc.

    Steve sighed.

I’m sure the police can handle him.

I’m not so sure of that. Look what that thing did to you.

    It’s not natural.

    I’m not understanding.

It called itself Sonicwave. Said my death would be its introduction.

And it’s attacking the city because it believes you’re dead?

    Yeah. Steve said quietly. Partially.

    What do you mean?

    The Voltage is no more.

Sonicwave roamed through downtown Los Angeles, ransacking the city, causing havoc. The police do their best to stop the electrical creature, but noting they have is optional. Sonicwave ran through them with hydro-blasts from his hands, layered in electricity. Sonicwave let out a roaring screech which echoed through the entire city.

The Voltage can’t be dead. Ava said.

That monster proved I am not ready for the greater battles ahead. I can’t continue to try.

But, look at the other things you’ve done. You helped take out the Neo-Spartan, you allied with others. You even aided in protecting us all from a walking A.I. with a messiah-complex. You are a hero.

How can you be sure of that?

Ava nodded. She walked over and grabbed the Voltage suit and held it in front of him. Steve stared at the suit before looking back to Ava.

Because you are The Voltage and it is astonishing.

Steve continued his stare as Ava glanced at his arms and shoulders. Seeing the bruises had vanished. No signs of them anywhere on Steve’s body.

    The bruises are gone.

    I heal faster than most.

    How is that possible?

    It’s a long story.

    IV
GREATER THE VILLAIN, GREATER THE HERO

Sonicwave continued his mayhem in the city. More police arrived at the scene of the havoc and Sheriff Jack Martin was with them.

    What is that? Jack asked.

We aren’t sure. An officer replied.

We can’t take down that thing. We need The Voltage.

    Sir, he tried. Didn’t work.

    There’s no way.

    I’m sorry, sir.

Jack shook his head as Sonicwave spotted him and the officers. They held up their firearms speedily.

    More fodder?! Sonicwave said.

Sonicwave rushed toward the officers and without notice, a bolt of lightning flashed through the area, striking Sonicwave, knocking him to the ground. The officers paused, seeing the creature down. Sonicwave rose up, holding his chest and grunting in pain.

What was that? An officer asked.

Behind them appeared the Voltage, moving toward them as the lightning himself. He stopped, revealing himself to their sight. Sonicwave stood up with a grin. Chuckling.

    Officers, leave him to me.

But, what about what happened to you?

    It’s fine. I’ll manage.

The officers flee the scene as the Voltage and Sonicwave walk in circles, facing one another.

You had me down last time.

It was only for a moment.

A moment? What do you mean?

This is all a test. I needed to know if you’re as strong as they claim.

    Who’s they?

    "You’ll find out very soon.

    I don’t think so.
