Conversation has been called an art by many including some 18th century writers who have given us numerous guides to conversational etiquette. There are some people who disagree with calling conversation an art. This camp calls conversation a skill that you must learn. Where do you fit? Do you believe it is an art or a skill? Or is it a little bit of both? If you think this is a test then you would be right.

If you view it as a skill, you understand that it is something practiced and improved upon, and you have the confidence to do just that. For those who believe it is a little bit of both: you are not wrong either, but you like to choose the middle ground. You tend to be more cautious and avoid debates where you have to side with someone. Of course this explanation is just an opinion, and it certainly does not apply to everyone. But, it has you thinking, right?

You are wondering if you will learn something from this book. When you read the questions you started to form an opinion. Furthermore, the explanation further had you thinking about your opinion and whether what is written is accurate. This is the very essence of conversation.

Conversations in the workplace, social gatherings, including dating situations, should generate thought, evoke an opinion, and identify points you want to discuss. The idea of a conversation is to engage you as a listener and talker so that you can have fun or learn something.

Conversation is usually about two things: entertainment and information. Sometimes a conversation can have both
