A Reason to Smile!: Volume 2
Author

Javier Cruz Winnik

This is Javier's second self published book in the last 4 years. The first volume of "A Reason to Smile!" took 2.5 years to conceptualize and create, and this new book, Volume 2, took only a year and a half. While the first book is a much younger read, volume 2 is a much more intense read in which we get to actually read the voice of the characters, as well as meeting many more. Javier transitioned from being a comic illustrator to an author as well in 2012 and has since sold over a thousand copies of his first book! More plans are in the work to create a chapter book along with a beginning readers book.

A Reason to Smile! - Javier Cruz Winnik

Luiza’s day always ended with her trying to get to the next stage in the current game occupying her attention. Have you ever been so close to your goal that it kept you up at night? Where you couldn’t sleep, rest would escape you, and all you could think about was reaching that goal? This was how she felt every night.

Regardless of how her day went, playing her favorite game at the end of her night gave her the chance to accomplish a goal. No matter how hard or easy things were throughout the day, getting to the next level, beating the next boss, or acquiring that new power up made her feel like she was doing something worth while. She was already a big kid because she was a 5th grader, and she liked knowing that she had the power to do something she set her mind to.

YES!, Luiza exclaimed. "I finally beat

level 22!, and just in time too. It’s good that she’s a pretty quick kid, or Papi would have caught her up past bedtime again! Luiza reminded herself, I can’t be so loud next time or l might get caught."

Another level is beaten, a smile has been won, and now it’s off to sleep and on to

    another day for Luiza Brillante.
